I just returned last night from the Dickens' Faire in San Francisco. My house guest for the last two months is heading back to Australia and I'm exhausted in a good way. It was good to catch up after 15 years and boy did we do some sightseeing and adventuring.
In the last two months I went to Yosemite in CA, Virginia City, NV and Seattle. I had lunch at the Space Needle, a ferry ride to Bremerton, a walk through the Pike Place Market, a ride on the gondolas at Santa Cruz beach and boardwalk, Trolley car rides in San Francisco and attended a San Jose Sharks hockey game.
I saw an exhibit on capes at the Phoenix art Museum, didn't see any vortexes while in Sedona, and I tripped going down the steps leading to the ledge of the Grand Canyon, complete face plant. Fortunately I was a good thirty feet away from the edge but I still scared the tour guide.
My plan to keep eating healthy didn't go so well, or it did the first couple of weeks until I ended up picking up more hours at work. I didn't gorge myself, and I can still fit into the same clothes but they are definitely tighter. My friend and I had lots of chats over a bottles of red wine, but never more than one bottle a night and not every night either so that was ok too. I enjoyed myself but I'm really ready to get back to eating super healthy again and doing more exercise. These newly formed bags under my eyes need to go away and I really want to be able to play a game of tennis, or take a hike up a hill or just be fit again.
On the down side, I suspect I have gallbladder issues. I've had similar symptoms before but never recognized them as such. This month I'm going to be very low fat and try to wait until I have better health insurance come Jan 1 to see a doctor. Yeah Obama care! I can hardly wait. I'm not having "attacks" but I did have some pain around my upper rib cage a couple weeks ago for one night, felt nauseous and now I feel like belching all the time. No pain currently though.
I have one of those health insurance policies that one can't keep here in California as it's hardly worth the premiums I pay for it and it doesn't meet minimum requirements. Frankly I don't even want it but it was all I could afford and it does make regular doctor visits less pricey and some lab tests are covered. I'm hoping I don't have to have my gallbladder removed but I'll feel better if I can at least get through the next few weeks without any issues.
I'll be catching up with everyone else's posts this week. I've read a few here and there over the last few weeks but didn't comment. Will be good to get back on the straight and narrow again. My gallbladder will probably thank me for it too.

Staying up too late and not getting enough sleep has put sparking in the back burner for me but it will only be for the next 7 weeks, then I'll be back and back on a fitness challenge.
My friend arrived a week and a half ago from Australia and I've been playing tourist guide. We've been to Virginia City, an old gold mining town and touristy place, Lake Tahoe, A midnight viewing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show with audience participation, the flea market, the antique mall, the regular upmarket mall and hit three Goodwill shops on Columbus Day when everything was 50% off.
This weekend we are heading to the Fioli Gardens www.filoli.org and probably the Winchester Mystery House www.winchestermysteryhouse.com which is down the street from my sister's place and the Redwoods in Santa Cruz. Next week we hit Yosemite along with my parents and we have some airplane tickets to head up to Seattle in Nov.
It's been fun, but it doesn't leave time for much else. It is a matter of making hay while the sun shines. I'm talking to my part time employer about working full time there temporarily so we are trying to do these trips before my job situation potentially changes.
I am tired but having fun. I'll be back sparking in early December for sure. Missing my spark friends!

.....I think I am starting to have this conversation with myself one too many times.
I HAVE to get a decent exercise program going. Healthy food habits are well established but getting this body moving is still a challenge.
Today is a good day to start and keep at it.

After finishing the 100 day challenge of no refined sugar or alcohol and getting great results with weight loss and improved health I decided to ease up a little. Bought one bottle of wine and finished it over five days, yes, it took me five days to finish a bottle which also involved using it in riostto. One package of dark chocolate was consumed over two weeks I'd say.
My test showed two things.
#1 yes, I can moderate my food intake if i am mindful about it and don't eat out of stress
#2 Even moderate amounts of refined sugars stop my weight loss.
So, not a pound has dropped off this month! I am not happy about that so, I guess for the time being I am going back to no refined sugar mode.
Small amounts of indulgences stopped the loss, 2 bits of birthday cake, making quiche with a crust, adding coffee creamer to my coffee at work. I guess it all add up.
The good news is, I can have those indulgences without gaining weight, just not while losing I guess.
I also REALLY have to get this exercise thing happening in a more serious way.
