Got My Exercise!

It took about an hour for me to find my little dog who got off her leash this morning. I live in a rural neighborhood along a lake and she managed to get nearly a half mile away and got stuck in a swamp! A neighbor saw her and heard her barking. She was stuck in the water in the middle of a patch of reeds and cattails and I had to wade in after her. I am so relieved to find her. She had a bath and is sleeping on a cushion right now. Cute, friendly and has a brain the size of a pea!

Busy Days of Summer

I got through 2 days of being back on track. That is a biggie for me. Yesterday was a busy one with quilting at church followed by a tour of a beautiful garden belonging to one of the Master Gardeners. She had snacks available including an assortment of some very nice raw vegetables from her garden. Today I can finally stay home and do some catching up in my own garden since I have been away from home for several days with meetings and friends.
Jerry is going to the lake to stay overnight so I won't have to cook for two people. My problem might be I choose to snack instead of sit down for a healthy balanced meal.

Starting Over

I should have titled this starting WAY OVER since I have regained all I lost plus a little more. I got on the scale this morning and started using the meal tracker here at Spark again so I am off to a good start.
I have discovered that the more social I am, the more obstacles I find to eating. I just have to be careful and avoid too many treats. At least I don't have them at home to tempt me.

    I just read an article that said that you are more likely to eat badly if you go out or hang around with a person who eats badly. Maybe you should meet those people with poor habits in a non-food setting.

    Oh Gail, I can so relate to where you are! I have learned to focus more on people than on the food at social functions; but it's not always easy--and not always successful. But, I don't quit. No mindless eating, keeps me in check.

Duh! It Works!

I was very successful at losing weight a few years ago by tracking my food and exercising every day. My NY resolution was to exercise at least 6 days a week for a minimum of 30 minutes and track all my food on paper since my old computer is a bit balky on Spark. I have been doing that actually since just before the new year and it is working! I am already down over 5 pounds which is something I have not been able to accomplish for the last year and a half. My third resolution was to eat only at the table but since it is super cold (-26 yesterday) and my DH spends the day in the kitchen with his hunting dogs who are excellent at pointing a plate of food, I have given up on that until it is warm enough that they can spend their days out in the kennel runs. There is nothing like trying to drink a cup of hot coffee with a Gordon Setter nudging your elbow!
I have not been able to get to Curves for over a week because of the cold, but I did dust off the Wii and have been using Wii Fit and Walk It Out. I made a trip to town yesterday because I had an appointment at the clinic and didn't get my Wii done, but managed a few laps around Walmart. Since it is the first day I didn't actually do regular exercise I didn't make myself feel guilty about it.

    How hilarious! I can relate! About the dogs! I have to carry mine outside to go potty. With a blanket wrapped around him and he wears a coat too.

    Ha! I can relate to your blog. I too used to be great at tracking and religiously exercising. Now that I am back on the saddle I can already tell a difference (haven't had an official weigh in).
Your comments about the dogs really made me laugh. We were pet sitting my brothers 12 week old German Shorthair last night so I could so relate to the dinner table comments about the elbow nudging!
Great job subbing the Wii for Curves! Keep it up!

Practicing!

It isn't quite the new year yet, but I have been trying to stick to my resolutions. I have been using my Wii or going to Curves every day, attempting to eat only in the kitchen and sadly, not writing everything down. My old computer is so pokey that using the Spark Tracker is way to slow although I may try that anyway. I can keep a little notebook next to the computer and write it down.
I had been lax in my exercise and eating too much so the results were obviously not going to be good. My scale does show some progress, not much, but at least heading a little bit down.

    I've been tracking in a calendar book for years; it's quick, easy and works for me. I've counted calories for so long it's rare that I have to look anything up. I keep a chart with my fitness minutes and I do enter my activity here at the end of the day; but would be fine if I didn't have access to a computer. My chart is my accountability to myself. Proud of you for getting a jump start on the new year!

    Don't worry if you can't track your food on Spark's site. I can't always do it simply because it gets time consuming especially when I have to calculate recipes.

I reason that I will learn to eat without tracking simply by living it every day. It is good that you are keeping track on paper, though. It's a very good habit that keeps us true. I do it on paper, too, at times. Sometimes I track through part of the day so I know where I stand by noon, at least. That does help.
