Feeling fantastic, today is still Day 1, just like everyday!

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Happy Tuesday everyone! I am back to weighing in daily, and keeping my calories in a lower range while reducing my cardio goal to 30 minutes daily. So, I have been around 1550 calories most days, a couple days going a little bit over. My cardio minutes for last week were 308 with a mix of walking, jogging and biking. I even took a day off on Wednesday from specific cardio, but logged 60 minutes of heavy duty cleaning because I spent the entire day working on my housework including scrubbing the two bathroom floors. I did no strength training last week, but I am back to that as of yesterday. My plan is to work my upper body on Mondays, my lower body on Wednesdays and my core on Fridays. So, I have finally gotten back to my weight before my 12 day set back, which is 169.6, just a wee bit below 170 pounds. I have not been consistently below 170 pounds for about 6 years! I am never going above 170 again. I have 35 pounds to go to reach my goal weight, which is less than half of my original goal of losing 80 pounds that I set in January of 2008. If I lose 1.5 pounds a week, I will reach that goal in just over 5 months. My biggest challenge so far has been consistency. I am all over the place with my exercise intensity and my calorie range. My goal over the next month is to have my calories stay within my new range of 1200 to 1550, aiming for the high end of that range. My goal for exercise is to stop pushing myself so hard, and aim for 30 minutes of high intensity cardio 5 days a week, with two days a week at 60 minutes maybe not so intense. I am going to Strength train for 20-30 minutes 3 days a week. That seems like a very realistic plan that I can maintain for the rest of my life. That sits in the right place for making this a lifestyle change, not a diet.

Saturday was such a beautiful day, and I really enjoyed my ride in the sun! Yesterday, I got up at 7 am, got dressed in my running type gear, and went for a run. It was overcast, but the ground was drying up, so I headed out for a long run. I got lost! I know, that sounds bizarre, but I tried a new area that I have never been in, and I totally got lost! I am running down streets trying to find my way out of a neighbourhood full of courts and lanes, and it starts to POUR down rain! I pulled up my hood, put on my gloves and just kept right on running, while holding the top of my sweater closed around my throat. It was cold, windy, wet. Pretty much the worst possible weather to be running in. BUT! I stuck it out (not like I had a choice!, being so far from home), and just tried to get home. Then, I got the brilliant idea to take a "shortcut"! I ended up coming out on a road I wasn't expecting, but it still was somewhere I knew, it just added more time to my outing. So, all in all, I ran for 2 hours straight(beat my personal record of 96 minutes), and had to walk for another 20 minutes after that to get home later than I planned by almost a half an hour. It was a crazy start to the day, but I am very glad that I did it anyway. And, the funniest part of it, besides getting lost (ROTFLMAO), was that I saw three other people out running in the crappy weather! Talk about diehard!

Wow - a 2 hour run, that's great! (I struggle for 1.5 min. jogging intervals on the treadmill! LOL) Bummer about the downpour though. Kinda funny when you look back at it but I'm sure you weren't feeling that way at the time! emoticon emoticon

First outdoor bike ride of the year

Saturday, March 28, 2009

emoticon Oh, I so loved being out on my bicycle today! It felt so good to hear the birds singing, and feel the sun shining on my face while the wind blew in my hair. It was such an incredible day here for weather and I am very glad that I was able to get out and enjoy it. I went for a one hour ride because I had an errand to run that I could ride my bike to instead of driving. It took me twenty minutes each way to travel to my location, and I squeezed in an extra twenty minutes just for the fun of it. I am so excited to get back to my two hour rides, I get such a thrill from going long distances on my bike. My bike is so comfy. I have a cushy seat to keep me comfy, and the handle bars are set up in such a way that I am able to stay upright and not put extra stress on my back and arms. I should take apic to share with you all. I also got some yard work done today with my two little helpers. All in all it has been a fantastic day!

Spring and weight loss

Friday, March 27, 2009

Okay, so, I noticed something today looking out my window. Spring, it doesn't just all of a sudden arrive and be warm and sunny every day. It is gradual. Some days are warm and beautiful like today, and then the next day or two can be cold and wet and dreary. Weight loss is kind of like a season change in that way! Some days it is easy and breezy to get in the cardio minutes and stick to calorie ranges. Other days it is like a yucky Spring storm that soaks the entire landscape. But, those storms are good for our Earth, and "off days" are also an important part of weight loss. The storms wash away all the snow and grit left over from the winter, and the "off days" we all have help wash away all of the boredom and frustration that can build up when we are focused on losing weight. If the storms and "off days" didn't happen, Spring and weight loss wouldn't be as nice! I really appreciate seeing the numbers on the scale move, and seeing my endurance improve after I have had an "off day" and can see the value of those achievements more clearly in the grand scheme of things. But, like Spring, if we have too many storms it makes it hard for the farmers to grow their crops, and if we take too many "off days", our weight loss efforts will be stalled. So, we just have to find a happy balance and remember to space out our off days in a reasonable way! That's my inspiration for today! Take it or leave it, it's the best I can come up with!

PMS TMI?

Thursday, March 26, 2009

Okay, so, I apologize in advance to anyone that is offended by this topic, but I noticed a huge difference in my body this month at the onset of my cycle. Over the last 2 months I have been eating right and exercising consistently, and it has greatly reduced my symptoms of PMS. This month, I am in agony! My whole body is just rebelling against me for not taking care of it! It sure makes me think that eating healthy and exercising is good for more than just losing weight! I don't want to feel like this every month ever again! Gotta remember this feeling so I don't let things go for so long again! Today, I am back to plan, eating the right foods in the right amount, got in my walk with my friends, I even bought a new shower curtain! So, I am confident that I will continue from here and get some consistency going. I am going to weigh in tomorrow and hope that I have lost at least 1 pound since Tuesday! and, I hope that I wake up tomorrow feeling better than today!

Offended - not in the least - this is reality!!! Don't forget that along with PMS'ing the bloating may account for extra weight!!! It's good that you got out and walked some of it off. Good Job!!!
