Strength training is going well

Tuesday, June 02, 2009

I have managed to get up 3 days in a row at 6 am to fit in my strength training, and it seems to be making my days better. I had a ton of energy this afternoon, even with my grocery shopping trip. I actually came home and put away all of my purchases. Often, when I get done at the store, I come home and just put away the bare minimum because I am so exhausted. Today though, I had energy to spare. So, I am going to get a good night's rest to start off my day tomorrow right again. Also, no chocolate for 2 weeks so far! I don't want to have any, because I still don't feel ready to ration myself. Gonna give it at least another week before I try to reinclude it in my diet, just to be sure I am the one in charge, not the chocolate!

    emoticon on the emoticon!

And good plan with the sweets. I've found that I can't have 'treats' becuz I have NO self control. One or two just isn't enough-I want it ALL! So I deal with it by eating fruit--especially frozen grapes.

Happy Monday

Monday, June 01, 2009

I had a great exercise day today. I had planned to rollerblade, but rain was threatening, so I didn't want to get caught in it with my blades on. Instead, I decided to do some aerobics. I have an X-Box program called Yourself Fitness that is the exact same as the My Fitness Coack on the Wii. I set up a 60 minute weight loss program. Jumping Jacks, Hops, Step stuff and some strength training and stretches at the end. This only gave me 48 minutes of cardio, so I laced up my runners, and did a 15 minute run to round out my routine. It was the best run I have done in a long time. I got my heart rate in the 160's , and spent most of the run in the 150's. Usually I sustain my heart rate in the high 130's, to endure my 60 minute plus runs, but since I was doing such a short session, I knew I could push myself. It felt fabulous! I am really looking forward to running with my journey buddy/best friend tomorrow to see how we do. Also, I went to the Terry Fox Run website and the new pledge sheet was available to print! YAY YAY YAY!!! I have been looking forward to getting this printed for months. Only 3 1/2 months to go! 15 weeks from yesterday! 104 days to go! I am going to look into online pledging as a fundraising option. I am going to talk to as many people as possible, and hopefully get some pledges from local companies as well. I am SOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, I did a photo shoot on the weekend with a relative. I had sooooo much fun, and they did too. I was totally pleased with the photos, and I know they will love them too. Things are just going so well right now, I can't get enough of the positivity! 3 pounds to go until I can wear my new bathing suit too! Come on 165!

My friends are laughing at me

Saturday, May 30, 2009

So, I went for a run with my running buddy yesterday. We were in an industrial area, and I heard a dog barking. I am always on the alert for dogs after being chased on my bike by a loose dog last Spring. I noticed yesterday that the barking dog was in a cage, so I was okay with that. Next thing you know, the dog (a HUGE, scary looking Doberman Pinscher with massive teeth) is chasing my friend and I! I started to run faster until my friend said "Don't run!" Of course! Dogs love to chase! So, I out loud told myself to STOP and stayed there until the men outside the shop where the dog got loose from called it back and got it under control. Then, we got moving again and I was so shaken up, and even cried a little bit. I don't like being chased by dogs, so my body dumped every available store of adrenaline into my system, and I was done running for the day. We cooled off for 5 minutes and called it done. We had a chat with my journey buddy shortly after that and told her all about our "adventure". She LAUGHED at me the whole time, and even my running buddy was laughing at me! Later, my journey buddy and I told her oldest child about it, who proceeded to also LAUGH at me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, so I am totally laughing at myself right now too, gotta have a sense of humour right? I just have to say though to any of you runners out there, if you get chased by dog, WHAT DO YOU DO? Carry dog treats in your pocket? Maybe some raw meat to distract it while you get away? I was so glad that the owner of the MONSTER we encountered yesterday was nearby, or I don't know what would have happened.

Seeing as how my run was cut short by 15 minutes, I needed more cardio. So, I went for a wonderful bike ride to visit a friend of mine who has lost 80 pounds. We had a healthy lunch together and talked about weight loss and long term changes for health. Then, I rode home to get in a total of 90 minutes on the bike. Combined with my 45 minute run, I burned over 1600 calories yesterday! I have my strength training program set up now, so I can start on Sunday, and I look forward to seeing some awesome results! WATCH OUT FOR THOSE DOGS!!

Every time there's a mean dog, you absolutely should STOP running. Why did they laugh at you? It's not fun to be chased by a great big dog! Now, if it was a little chihuahua or something you could easily step on, I'd see how they could laugh :-)

I got bit last summer by a PitBull so I totally understand about being scared!! And, even tho you know better, the first instinct is 'flight or fight'. The second instinct when seeing a dog come barrelling at ya, teeth bared, growling is 'flight'. Glad you were OK! Scary, tho!

Way to go on getting in some extra exercise!

Yikes! My first reaction is also to run away from the scary monsters, but I know that's not the best thing to do. It's hard though. Unless I have one of my dogs with me. Then I have to keep them in check!

Gotta love those supportive friends, eh?

oh my what a way to get in your cardio! lol
It is a scary thought though to have a dog chasing you. With me this week it was a huge snake on my patio that got me to moving but at least I can outrun a snake and couldn't a dog.
Thanks for sharing and do be careful.

Tracking my food again

Thursday, May 28, 2009

So, Today, I did my first full day of tracking my food. I also just finished planning my day for tomorrow and recording it in my journal so I don't have to rely on the internet access to know what to eat and what I have remaining to fill my quotas for the day. My sodium is high today and also will be tomorrow, but I am not stressing over it. I am extremely active so if I take in a bit more sodium, I will make good use of it. Plus, I am drinking tons and tons of water, which will help flush out my system. I am feeling very driven right now. I have had it with the lack of results since February and ready to tackle the next 40 pounds. My exercise routine is down pat, my cravings are coming under control, and my food tracking is my current hurdle to overcome. 160's here I come again!

Back in the swing of things

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Well, I weighed in this morning, and I have lost 1.4 pounds since last Tuesday! I am so close to getting back below 170 (171.8 today) , and I am totally psyched. I am on a roll right now. Cutting out chocolate and virtually all sweets has made a huge change in my cravings, and I am eating when I am hungry instead of ignoring it. But, I am eating the right stuff, so that makes the biggest difference!

emoticon emoticon You can do it! That's great - very motivating for me to hear about your success! In fact, I'm off to eat fruit salad for dessert tonight, instead of something "bad".
