Stationary Bike

I borrowed a stationary bike from a friend for a while(indefinitely, she doesn't use it, but I told her if she ever wants it back, to say the word). I have been wanting one, but just can't justify spending a minimum of $100 for one. I have really been missing my bike since the snow moved in, I notice my knees give me grief more without the strengthening I get from riding. I put in a full hour tonight, and boy was it tough! I will be glad to have this option for getting in my cardio minutes because it is a great calorie burn!

When I first started walking, as I have already said in previous posts, I was wiped out after 15 minutes, and really pushing myself to lift my legs just to walk. Today, I jogged for 546 strides on my morning walk. I felt so energized, but I didn't push myself too hard. I want my legs to work again tomorrow. I was jogging like this a few months ago, and I pushed too hard in the cold weather. I pulled a hamstring muscle and was out from my exercise routine for 3 weeks. I can't go there again. So, I will be more careful, and go slower on building up my jogging.

I have been on my weight loss journey for 2 years now. The first year I just tried to get into the mindset and make some small changes, one a month. After one year, I had gained 2 pounds! Last year, year 2, I decided to jump in full force, and lost just a little more than 20 pounds. This year, year 3, I am determined to make it a lifestyle. Anyway, last year in January, I started walking at a local indoor walking track. The majority of the other walkers were senior citizens. I'm telling you, I couldn't keep up with some of them, and I was trying my hardest! I noticed yesterday, that the folks I couldn't keep up with, are now working to keep up with me! I get a lot of comments that I walk really fast, and I have even started to work in some jogging. I also really enjoy using the stairs in my workout, it raises my heart rate very quickly, and I feel exhilerated! It's hard to believe that when I started out 2 years ago, a 15 minute walk wiped me out, and now I can go for 2 hours or more at a high pace. It feels so good to be healthy and fit again. Now, I just have to get working on these aerobics DVD's and get my rhythym back.

So, I tried the DVD today, just Cardio level 1. I am dying here! I think I may have pulled a muscle in my left leg! AAARGH!!! I am icing it right now, and I will take it easy tonight and hope that it feels better in the morning. I am not giving up, I will walk tomorrow morning, but just take it slower.

    It is good that you weren't perfect at the video the first time - room for improvement! You can also base your progress on this and by how well you do each time. As you get better at the videos and add to/change the workouts, it will keep your body guessing and not get used to the same old thing.

    Hey Kandice, I used an older DVD, the 2007 version of Cardio Max 6 week program. I like that it has levels too, but I am very discouraged that I wasn't better at it. It really hurt! Just on level one! I think what did it was trying to do hop lunges. I am just not ready for that yet, and my legs told me so! My leg is feeling much better today, but I am very pleased that I have kept up my walking and didn't let it stop me. I would love to do your year long challenge, I was looking for it. Can you post a link either here or on your own blog? I am so totally motivated. My kids are in school full time now, so this is my year to take care of my weight and clean up my house. You are very motivated too and very knowledgable. I tried another DVD tonight, a Cardio Salsa workout. I have no rhythm anymore! I will have to try it again in 15 or 20 pounds!

    Which DVD are you using? I am using Jillian's Shred Workout (level 1) and Bob's Yoga Workout (Workout 1 only) alternating each day in the morning before my weight training at the gym. Let me know which you are using - there are a lot out now. I like how they have different levels and workouts to up intensity and variety. Good Job and I hope your leg feels better.

PS - Do a year long challenge with me - you seem really motivated. I posted about it in our 12 week challenge board. Bye!

Blisters and cramps and blood oh my!

So, I put in a two hour walk at the arena today. 1 hour in, I started getting a cramp in my side, but I was very proud of myself that I worked through it and managed to get in my whole 2 hours as planned. Yesterday after I walked I found some blood on my sock at the back of my heel where my foot blistered against my shoe, and it was bleeding again today. I have blisters all over my feet in various places from various foot wear that I have been walking in lately. I need a change of pace and give my poor feet a chance to recover! I am going to have a skate tomorrow, and a light walk in the afternoon with a friend. I am empowered!
