Got up early today

I figure with school starting back soon, I better get us all back into a routine. So, today, I got up bright and early at 7 am after staying up until 1 am. Not enough sleep makes me feel like eating. The tired signals my body sends are misinterpreted as hunger signals and it makes me want to eat! I still stayed within my calorie range though, and very soon I will collapse on my bed and pass out from exhaustion! Also, I went roller blading today for the first time in a long time. I wiped out 20 minutes into my one hour session! Thank goodness I made the choice to wear my goofy padding, because it saved the day! My quad was hurting because of the way I landed, but I decided to tough it out and see if it would loosen up. By the end of my session, I had forgotten about falling because my quad was loosened right up. I am certain that this activitiy made a huge impact on my level of exhaustion, but gosh did it feel great!

    Rollerblading!! That's sounds like a lot of fun, haven't done it in years! It's nice that you are doing something actually fun for exercise too & good for you for getting right back up when you fell.

The pros and cons of exercising outside

Okay, so I was out today for a bike ride, first time in a long time, and as I neared the end of my ride, I started thinking about it. I love exercising outside, in the fresh air. Some of my favourite things about it are: Fresh air; listening to the birds; the challenge of the terrain whether it be hills on the road or rocky and dirty hills on a trail; getting wet in the rain; interacting with folks and friendly animals I meet along the way. Some of the things I don't like about it are: Breathing in the exhaust fumes and other people's cigarette smoke; people being rude to me (my friend and I were actually propositioned by a very stoned fellow on a run a few months ago) ; dealing with traffic; getting caught in a lightning storm; interacting with vicious dogs chasing me down the road(I was chased on my bike once, and on another occasion my running buddy and I were chased by a doberman pinscher! very scary).

Despite all of those things I dislike, I will never get a gym membership I think, because for me the pros far outweigh the cons, and since I have invested a fair amount of money in equipment I use in my own neighbourhood, I can't justify spending more money on a gym membership! I own a bike, roller blades (all the protective gear too, including my bike helmet, running shoes, a pool, a borrowed indoor bike, Wiifit and an Xbox fitness program, hand weights, flexibility ball, resistance bands, a yoga mat, medicine ball, a great big concrete pad in my back yard, a mini trampouline. I think that's everything! I always have access to something to be active, and I don't need to spend more money each month to be a gym member. Also, in my community I have access to tennis courts, basketball courts, an indoor walking track, a skating rink in the winter, many different walking trails. I feel so incredible blessed by all of these opportunities in my own "backyard". One day however, I might just invest in a couple of sessions with a personal trainer, but I am thinking that I get that kind of support right here at Sparkpeople! Anyway, enough rambling, I just wanted to share with every one how I have gotten set up with fitness opportunities I enjoy without joining a gym, and by making good use of my resources in my community.

    WOW, you really spice up your routine! I will admit I am a gym membership person I think more so out of convenience for me but there is something definitely to be said about exercising outside. For the most part is is preferable & I would agree with the fact that you get to see different friendly people & certainly the terrain is always differnt vs. the same old machines at the gum. Good for your for diversifying, I need to do some of that myself!

    I too have never had a gym member ship. I don't have as much equipment as you, but have been able to do loose with out it. I do go for bike rides and walks outdoors. I wish you all the best and agree doing it at home has worked for me, but know that it won't work for everyone.

    I love to exercise outside also! I'm not quite at the biking/jogging stage yet, but I absolutely LOVE going out for walks. I prefer to walk at night though. My bf works until 2-3am often, and usually we walk then cause it's cool and there's no traffic. Plus I walk twice as far with him because of the company and it's not too hot like during the day.

    I'm with you! I enjoy exercising outside also. Not so much in the summer when it's sticky hot but I do love it in the 'winter'(if you could say TX has a winter!)

1. My wonderful dear husband in my life.

2. My two healthy well rounded children.

3. A home to raise our family in.

4. My health and the ability to participate in any sport or activity I desire. I may not be a star player or participant, but I get out there and try new things whenever I get a chance!

5. SPARKPEOPLE! I have gained so much from the resources here, and doubly so when it comes to the support and camaraderie within the community here.

Well, I took the advice from the comments on my blog today, and I just DID it! I ate so much better today. I also suffered immensely for my choices yesterday. My stomach has been a real mess today. I managed to do all of the Quickfire challenges for the day though! I didn't give up when boredom set in, I just ran a little bit instead of walking. My kids even jumped in for a bit! I am reminded this week that having all of the answers isn't enough, and using the solutions is absolutely necessary!

Having a hard time with food again

I am eating in control, but I am making some really bad choices. I need to start planning my meals again, and preparing them ahead of time too. I'm feeling very lazy about it though.
