Planning ahead

So, I tracked my food the last two days, and yesterday, I ate almost 4000 calories. Lots of boredom eating, mindless snacking, super high calorie meals (Breakfast was 1400 alone!). I just didn't care about what I was putting in my mouth, and had no idea how high my count would be. So, my reaction to this gluttony? I planned my food for today. Did it last night before bed. When I got up this morning, I felt focused because I knew what breakfast would be. If I feel hungry for my morning snack, no thinking required, simply eat what I planned out last night! I was able to work in a ton of veggies, and I gave myself a very generous budget of 2000 calories. Also, I will get in some cardio at some point, most likely some shoveling, and probably some stationary bike time while I watch TV later. The other thing I did differently is I went to bed by 11:00, making my 7 am alarm clock my friend not my enemy. I think tomorrow I will discuss the snooze button and what I have done to beat it!

    Way to plan! 11 am to 7 am sleep sounds wonderful :)...I sleep 11 am to 6 am...and it's not quite enough to be happy about waking up in the morning lol.

Happy Groundhog Day!

No school today for my kidlets, it's a SNOW DAY! Love it. They have both been home sick for 3 days now, starting on Sunday with coughs etc. I would have sent them to school today, but it's closed. Hurray! I really struggled in January, eating everything in sight, gained 10 pounds. Yesterday, I started tracking my food again, and I got in an hour of exercise. Also, I have been able to run again, up to a 20 consecutive minute session. Yay! It feels good to be finally seeing results of my patience.

Getting back into the swing of things

I went for a long walk with my running buddy today, it felt totally awesome to get some fresh air and be active again. I struggled on one hill, very trying on my patience, had to actually stop to catch my breath, and it was just such a tiny hill. Gotta focus on the positives though, which is that I was able to do it at all!

Next, I'm so glad that, in spite of all you've been through, I'm so glad that you haven't given up. I didn't know you were so sick - I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope your recovery goes smooth and quick from here on in.

Hey, remember how great it felt when you started running? All the highs and lows and the feeling of victory? I hope you get to enjoy all that again soon. Take it easy, rest up, eat well and post often. Feel better my friend.

Still sick

Just a quick update. I never did fully recover from the pneumonia, and I have since had a bout with the stomach flu and I am now treating a sinus infection. I haven't exercised since November 12, because it is taking everything I have just to get through my day. I have been resting a lot, and my doctor wants me to have a pulmonary function test as well as a pneumonia vaccination once this infection is gone. Trying to be patient and get better.

30 days in, and finally building momentum

My chest is clear of infection from my bout with pneumonia, but my doctor told me it can take 6 to 8 weeks for the lingering inflammation to dissipate. In the meantime, I am finding myself short of breath with minimal exertion. On Monday, a 20 minute walk at a very slow pace really stretched my limits. Doc agreed that using my puffer before exercise would help with that. So, today, I got up at my 6:30 alarm, and took a shot of my puffer then waited 5 minutes before I hopped on the treadmill. I set that bad boy at an excruciating 2 miles an hour, and pushed myself to stick with it for 15 minutes. I did it, I got it done, and it just about killed me to walk soooooooooooo SLOW........ but it was the best I could do, and I am taking it for what it is worth. Which, in reality, it is worth a lot right now. Each week I am building up my strength, and by keeping at it, I will get back to running again.

I have been planning my food every day this week, and keeping my calories eaten below 1700 two days in a row now with today planned at 1550 again. I am seeing the reaction on the scale, which is totally motivating. Balance will happen, going to make sure of that.

My plan for the rest of the week.

Eat as close to 1550 as I can be.

Walk for 15 minutes on Friday again at 2 miles an hour.

Keep taking baby steps to full health.

Get 8 hours sleep each night.

Drink 8 cups of water every day.

    Just STARTING to catch up... Sorry to hear you've been so sick. (shades of last year, eh? didn't you and I have pneumonia about the same time? My memory is failing...) anyway, I'm glad you're feeling better. I try to use illness as a time to refocus on food (since ya' can't run anyway!). Best of luck. Warm thoughts...

    I feel your pain!!! I have really bad asthma, which is like having pneumonia almost all the time. I just got over a bad spell and I am trying to build my cardio back up, I can barely manage a 2.5 mph on the tread climber, it hurts and I get wheezy and it's irritating, but I can tell it's helping!

Keep with it and I hope you heal up soon!
