The Cow just jumped over the Blue Moon

Thursday, March 06, 2008

Well after checking myself out I realize two amazing things...
A...I'm still alive!
B...I actually completed the 20 minute run in the week 5 of the C25K running program I'm doing.

I was convinced there was no way in the world I could get thru that run. I figured the cow would jump over the blue moon and do it quite gracefully, before I would succeed running for 20 minutes straight.

I had visions of repeating week 5 for 6, 7, 8 weeks similar to the repeating piano lessons I had as a child. Usually on the 8th week, the piano teacher who's hair had now turned grey, would let out a pitiful shreik of purest agony, and then turn around for a few minutes, get herself under some measure of control, turn back and with a shakey smile say,..".veeeerrrrry goooooooood Heather..shall we move on." : )

So to all my Couch 2 5K teamates - if your thinking right now you can't make it thru week 5's final kick in the butt. I think thats probably pretty normal, and you will get thru it too.

hope that encourages you in some twisted way....

If you can find the breath to growl that helps too.

So shall we.....move on. : )

64 year old Nana...makes her dance dreams come true.

Sunday, March 02, 2008

Something happened today that really inspired me. I thought I'd share it here because I know that deep in the back of our minds, especially those of us who aren't in the best physical shape is that little voice of doubt and doom...saying a runner? come on get real.

But why NOT?

Today i was at DanceAbition where my daughter was competing in dance. I have practically lived in the theater the last two days, and was exhausted until I saw someone inspire me and the entire audience, to give us a shake that said it doesn't matter how old you are, or out of shape you are, or what you weigh...if you have a passion, a dream, a purpose, you can succeed at it.

Last year the grandmother of one of the girls at our studio confided that she had always loved dance, and wished she had been able to compete like her grandaughter when she was a girl. Well we all knew Nana adored Dance. Need a costume Nana. Need a fund Nana....Need an organizer call Nana. She was Jordans grandmother but all the girls in senior troop called her Nana and thought very much of her.

Well Jordan said to Nana...its not to late. If you like and if you dare...I'll teach you to tap dance this year and you can enter and compete...that is as I said.."if you dare".

Nana wasn't about to let Jordan get away with that...uh uh uh! So she said your on and bought her first pair of tap shoes. Jordan taught Nana tap once a week in the kitchen and tonight...Nana competed her tap solo at DanceAbitition.

The place went wild everyone was blown away, and so inspired. At 64 years of age, and several pounds more than a regular size dancer...Nana proudly displayed her not to shabby tap skills. She received a standing ovation from the crowd who just went crazy. The Judges said she was in their opinion there new "IDOL". She won a gold medal and to top it off....the trophy for top marks in adult tap. Whooooo HOOOO Go Nana.

Tonight her dance dreams became a reality.

So tonight it doesn't matter your age, your weight, if you want to run, or do anything eles. If you want it and your willing to invest some time and energy into it...You can make your dream come true.

I'm not lying...I saw Nana do it tonight. She's currently beaming, can't stop smiling. she beat Jordan her grandaughter who only got a and she inspired every one of us lucky enough to be in that theater today.

what is it...thats been knocking around in your mind...what kind of missed or seeminly missed opportunities. Dig em out...look at it..and go for it. Cuz Nana would tell you...its never too late.

Oh and guess what song she danced to?

"When I'm 64"....what eles. lol hahaha

Its going to be a challenge this weekend.

Friday, February 29, 2008

Okay...Its another Dance Competition. I'm up at 6:30 we need to be there for 8 am so we can see the little ones that Kailee has choregraphed for and cheer them on. All in all I will be practically living at the theater Festival building this weekend. Hours and hours of watching dance...which is great I love dance. However, makes it rough for staying on a diet and staying hydrated as you can't leave your seat to go to the washroom once competition begins in a particular segment, and I'll be eating in restaurants. Also won't have much chance to exercise this weekend either. Sooooooooooooooooo I'll just have to do the best I can.
I've got my fingers and toes crossed that Kailee will do well. She's had some bad luck this week, injured her foot, and has got a pretty bad cold. She's danced with worse before though.
Hope you all have a great weekend. I don't expect i'll be on much this weekend.

The last few days I have tried to explain to people why I'm suddenly so infatuated with running. How I can hate it, but intensly love it all at the same time. Then today I open up my home page and the first thing I see is a spark people motivational quote and pic. This pretty much says it...Thanks Sparkpeople.

WOW! You're right - that sums it up. Your feelings on running are similar to mine and you express it very well.

Keep up the great progress in C25K. Enjoyed reading your comment on my blog.

You Won't believe what she said!!!!

Yesterday I was at work when one of our regulars came in and looked at me and said.."Your Losing weight".

Yes! She was the first person who really noticed. I nearly jumped over the counter to hug her, I thanked her profusely...she'll think twice before ever saying that again! lol

It felt really great and its true...sparkpeople is working big time. I'm so happy. Today isn't weigh in day...but I woke up this morning and I felt smaller. My middle just felt smaller and I felt lighter...sounds funny I know but true. So I got out of bed and got weighed and whooooooo hoooooo
I was down yet another 2 pounds.

I'm really starting to feel the difference and people are seeing the difference. I'm doin my happy dance again.

I'm so grateful for this place, for the wonderful people I have met here, and just thankful that the Lord led me here in the first place.

He always knows just what i need and when.

Hurrah...we are doin this...

Oh and one more thing......I've lost 5 inches of heart attack fat from my middle. Now that is good news.

Now I'm sore as sore can my challenge to day is to see if I can complete the second routine of week4 couch-5k program. Now that is a scary thought. Wish me well as I'm wishing you all well too.

Just to update my blog today.....I'll comment on my own blog. lol

I made it through the run routine. It wasn't pretty, and I didn't even have the breath to do my grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
rr mantra which helps, but I just imagined me as a sumu wrestler growling in my head. I made it thru...but boy was I glad when it was sweet zone in their today.

I'm feeling really proud of me. I love running. Or its more like I hate running, but I love what it does for me phsyically and emotionally, it makes you feel powerful, unstoppable, like everything is doable, and it drowns out all the voices clammouring for your attention and its just you and and your body and learning how to sync your mind with your body. Your one of course, but this cause you to focus on that. Gosh I don't know how to explain it...but its awesome. When I'm done I feel like I am shera the warrior princess or something hahaha. I took Shania Twain with me on my run this morning...she has so many songs that make me feel empowered as a woman.

So if you haven't tried running...I really recommend it. If you feeling at all blue or stressed...definitly try running. Best medication there is.
