In the city where I live parking can be a challenge but my spark activity has eased the challenge for me. Two days a week we have alternate street parking so city street sweepers can clean the street without cars blocking their path. Limited parking spaces available now is reduced by half the spaces. Many times when a space has opened up before the parking enforcers issue tickets I've dashed out my door at the same time another parking space hunter has dashed out and have been beaten everytime.

During the last few weeks exercise has been added to my spark activities. Regular use of my treadmill, wii free step and wii aerobics exercise has given a little pep to my step. Not to mention the 10 pounds lost since starting spark people in May. We must still park on one side of the street on alternate days but this week I won the dash and got the space. My neighbor looked at me and said you must have been standing at the door. I said proudly I've been working out. emoticon

    wonderful progress check! It's good to recognize non-scale progress points. They are a much better measure. The fact that you've also lost 10 pounds....Spectacular!

Do What U Can

This weeks challenge will be fitness. Fitness for me now is a routine of walking , wii fit training in aerobics, and 5-6 sets of arm exercises. Sometimes when outside interference seems more overwhelming then my desire to complete my fitness routine than I have a challenge. The challenge could be overcoming low energy, illness, busy schedule. Whatever form the challenge appears my attitude is do whatever needs to be done to get some exercise in to my day even if its just five minutes. My spark friend Faith91 taught me that lesson . Faith91, through her web site, encouraged me to do 5 minutes. That 5 minutes blossomed into 10 mins and 796 steps. Take one step u never know where it will end. emoticon

New Month New Challenges

July means for my part of the country that we are in to real summer weather. For the east coast that means high temperatures, daily thunderstorms. My appetite needs encouragement during the hot days of summer. Salads are a definite mainstay in summer. Salads are easy to prepare. There is little need to be in a kitchen hot with pots boiling or the heat from the oven grill when all the mixing for a salad come from the fridge. My salads are usually made with just a few ingredients. Red leaf lettuce , green leaf lettuce and romaine is a mixture I love. Next maybe a few grape tomatoes. Then I might add a brown mushroom or two. With a few pices of fruit chopped up and sprinkled on top my salad starts to look eatable. Depending on what I've already eaten I may add a hard boiled egg to my salad. My dinner salad might be sprinkled with a few grams of tuna or grilled salmon. Salads keep me going and cool during the hot days of summer. emoticon

Today the barrier was broken. The barrier that I would not do 30 mins of exercise. The treadmill was first today. At 14.9 minutes I wanted desperately to quit. Switching music I continued to the beat of the song. I peeped thru my now closed eyes and saw 18.9 mins. My goal was at least 20 mins on the treadmill. Pushing forward at the end of the song the screen displayed 20.50. Victory!

Next 10 easy minutes on the wii free step gave me my first 30+ mins. Looking forward to tomorrow if I can move.

Isn't that the best feeling? when you want to quit but give it your all and meet your mark?!

You might try spending extra time stretching muscles, if the muscles are markedly sore tomorrow, but the soreness actually peaks either the next day or the day after that, from what I understand. Still, don't wait to exercise until they feel all better again.. Keep an eye on it, but keep up your performance!!! You Go!! You Rock!!

Wake! Go! Rock the Fitness! and repeat!

Slow but Sure Start

Today was is afree day. Packing lunch to accommodate a 12 1/2 hour work day two or three days combined can be a bit time consuming. All the weighing, counting calories and combining foods to make a low calories meal is time consuming. But today my concentration was trying to get my exercise completed. Using the wii machine and the tread mill along with my dumb bells got it done for me today.

There were three separate sets of exercise periods. Frist I completed a 10 minute free step on the wii. This gave me 284 steps. Calories burned were a mere 71. Next , while watching Tv I completed six different exercises with dumbbells 10 reps each arm. Yep I am feeling it now. Last I was able to complete 14.59 minutes at pace of 2.0 for 0.334 in distance burning an additional 43.7 calories. I know this is no where near my 10,000 steps a day goal but it is aslow start. emoticon
