Out of Touch

Friday, December 20, 2013

Hello to all my Spark Friends.

I have not been spending much time on line, just going to work then home and resting. On December 2nd I went to a clinic at a local pharmacy because I had a sinus or ear infection and could not get into my doctor. Because my BP was 184/122 she would not give me anything, wanted me to go to the ER. I thought I might have missed a few days of my meds, so I agreed to come back the next day.

I stayed home from work and in bed most of the day (thought that would help lower BP) until I had to go back. Nope, 205 over 111. I agreed to go to an urgent care facility. Well they told me they could not help me I needed to go to the ER. My insurance SUCKS on ER deductible so I called the doctor and they told me to come in the following morning.

My doc gave me a lecture that I should have gone to ER. She had me take my night med (makes me drowsy) in the morning as well as night. This did get my BP down enough that I could fly to Texas for my mother's 80th birthday that weekend. I spent the next few days in Texas then came home and back to laying around until I had to go back to doc. Unfortunately, the extra dosage of my med had me all foggy and hardly able to function. I would sit down and start to nod off. This makes it hard to spend much time online.

Today I picked up a new med to try, so I did not have to double up on the one that makes me drowsy. Since I live alone I told them I would start it on Monday, just in case of a reaction.

That being said, I think of you guys a lot, and hope to be back full force in a couple of weeks.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

If we were to really get down to examining the source of most artificial - and many 'natural' - ingredients, we could make a good, solid case for eating whole food . . . as close to the 'original packaging' as possible.

Back in the 90's (before I had access to internet) I began researching cosmetics and skin care products. Most people don't give it a second thought . . . . but there's a reason many medicines are applied by trans-dermal patches as it gets absorbed directly into the blood, bypassing the body's filtration system. Nasty stuff in there!

No wonder there is so much disease!

Ok, I'm so glad I am not eating strawberry ice cream. Ewwww!

So, you are a juicer I am assuming? Congrats! So am I. I also, when on program, am a raw organic vegan.

Pumpkin Seeds

Tuesday, November 05, 2013

Today I got to try the pumpkin seeds I prepared.

I soaked them for about 46 hours in water with hot salt in it.

I then drained them and sprinkled hot pepper on them and mixed them really well.

I sprayed pam on the foil on the cookie sheet and baked for about 15 mins, turned the stove off and left to cool down with stove.

I was short on some of my nutritional values so I mixed some with almonds.

Very Good. I will be doing this again.

I have been seeing the pumpkin smoothies, etc. so this week I bought a fresh pumpkin and a butternut squash. Wow what a lot of work cleaning them up!

I have never had butternut squash before. I really liked the flavor and color. I had a few pieces raw.

The pumpkin was another story. When I cut it open the only orange in there was the strings around the seeds. The rest was a cream color and parts of it reminded me of potato strings. It has very little flavor, and seemed dried out. I put some of the strings in water and simmered with cinnamon. The only flavor is the cinnamon. I read where I can freeze it raw, so that is the next step.

I read to put the pumpkin seeds in salt water and soak for 24-48 hours. They are now soaking. I will bake them tomorrow.

I wonder if your pumpkin was dehydrated? They shouldn't look like how you described it at all. Perhaps you can talk to whoever you bought it from to see if you got a dud.

I have to admit, I'm rather limited in my affection to pumpkin . . . pretty much can only handle pumpkin pie. Probably because I got sick on pumpkin soup once in Australia .. . . ewww bad memories. I do love pumpkin seeds but have to stay away from them due to IBS & diverticulitis. :(

Sounds like fun. I'll be eager to hear how it turns all. emoticon

Let me know how the pumpkin seeds turn out!

I cook pepper squash for my hubby all the time. I do not like the taste, except when I've had it in Thai curry.
