Low Carb Works

Saturday, November 24, 2012

This has been an exiciting week of ups and downs. Sunday I went to help a friend and had to leave early because I was in so much pain. I went to the doctor and was sent to the ER with possible kidney stones. I had not been eating so my blood sugars were low. The ER doctor gave me a CT scan with contrast. I was put on a liquid diet and admitted for the night.

Sometime in the middle of the night the pain subsided and no one put me on a "diabetic diet". I was told that because I had contrast with my CT scan I could not take my medication. It was great having the freedom to order off the regular menu and without my medicaiton it was a great test of my low carb diet. I never went over 108 which for a normal person is no big deal but for a diabetic it was fantastic.

Monday night I came home. Tuesday I went to work. While enjoying my time off for the Thanksgiving weekend, I experienced a very low blood sugar. Today my doctor cut my medication in half and suggested I increase my carb intake. WAHOO - I am starting OWL's.

Updated Tickler

Sunday, October 14, 2012

When I joined Spark People in 2006 and set up my tickler I did not realize that I was 270. Today I changed my tickler from counting down the pounds to counting up the weight loss. I feel it is more motivating for now. I also changed my start weight from 270 to 244 which is what I was weighing 10 weeks ago when I started on Atkins this time.

I know that by doing this I have cut my weight loss in half but I think that whatever I did to get from 270 to 244 is not part of my life today. I also want to keep the records straight so when I get to goal it is because I was sticking to my Atkins plan and I have the proof on paper and on this website.

My diet is working!!!

Sunday, October 14, 2012

Today while I was carrying some of the groceries up to the house my shorts fell down. It was funny because I live in a condo and they fell down in front of my neighbor's door. Thank the Lord that the hallway was empty. My husband was still on the stairs carrying the rest of the groceries. I was laughing so hard that it was hard to put down the small box I was carrying and pull up my pants. I am going to have to go to the doctor's office this week. I am curious how much more weigh I have lost.

You might want to wait making new shorts as winter is coming andnew ones might fall off in the spring if you make them already... emoticon

Thanks for the suspenders. I am planning on taking apart some of my old shorts and use them as a pattern to make myself new shorts from some of my old clothes.

2nd edition of my cookbook

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

I was planning going through some boxes today and I found the cookbook I put together before I started my diet. I went through the recipes and some I can use...others I can adapt...most of them went straight into the garbage.

Went to McDonald's this morning with a friend and had a sausage patty with some eggs and an unsweetened iced tea. I checked on line and that was a whole 5 carbs out of my 20 for the day. It was nice to go out and be "normal" at a fast food place. Won't do it every day but it is good to know I can.

Bored with your diet - you are not doing it right!!

Monday, October 08, 2012

My work sent me to the clinic for my work physical. At that time I had been doing Atkins for three weeks. The doctor there told me that she has been doing Atkins for 4 months and after a few weeks she got very bored with it.

Well now I have been following the diet for a 8 full weeks and while I was getting ready to go shopping for week 9 I did not want to eat any of the recipes that were in my family cookbook. The wonderful thing about Atkins is that you can get creative. You have a list of acceptable vegetables so you can mix and match anyway you want with your choice of protein.

Sunday, I dug out one of my husband's favorite kugal recipes. It was a salt and pepper noodle kugal. I made zucchini noodles and made the recipe as it was printed except I used the zucchini instead of pasta. It turned out great and now I have a new recipe for my family cookbook.
