maximizing the weekends for opportunities lost during the week

Well tomorrow morning I will wake up in MY bed in MY house and I have spent some time prioritizing the day...after planning reasonable goals is better than winging it AND better than planning too much.

survival goals: good food, laundry, bills

exercise: saturday, a hike with the dog and dog group
Sunday, a mile swim.

housekeeping: plug a few gaps in the foundation to keep out winter mice.

In the past I have had too many goals (ie the WHOLE honey-do list) and then I get psyched out.

I would say I did pretty good on sleep hours, but less good on meal planning from a dorm fridge.

Same goals next week, adequate sleep and 5 fruits and veggies/day.

    This week, I have really been practicing...goal setting. It is much needed in my life. I assembled an 8 month goal plan that includes daily, short term, medium term and long term goals. I am proud of myself for finally putting things into perspective!

motel living

This week I stayed in a little humbler digs. The holiday inn express, brand new and shiny was overtly hostile to four legged guests (I mean, if you are going to accept dogs dont make your guests feel unwelcome). Now I am at a 1 star motel and everyone loves my Kohosh.

The digs are clean (I did look for bedbugs) but no housekeeping comes in, and there is no microwave.

It is such a challenge to shop and eat anything but raw veggies. I should be in an apartment by monday and starting a new facility in the family of nursing homes. Travel is more stressful but somehow, I seem to be managing good sleep all week, even in a floppy bed.

I hope to normalize my life and have a real fridge and stove soon! My goals all seem to be floundering, barely treading water! Time to re-focus, rededicate and celebrate.

Friday night I will be in my own bed in Cleveland, and saturday we have a hike with our buddies in Lake county - 3 pomeranians and a few griffons. (and their owners)...can't wait to see my friends!

packed my bags and then repacked

leaving for a contract assignment for 5 months...which means packing! My spark friend Imsoozieq wrote and packing for the spark journey and it occurred to me that there are several things I could leave behind!!!

anxiety
procrastination
and sleeping too little

    nice video blog!!!! I can soooo relate. Fighting anxiety constantly is exhausting...I do it too. I have felt, rarely, the energy that comes with NOT worrying. What a life changing goal to put that into practice all the time. Also the thinking of everything that needs to be done and then doing nothing. I am going to research GABA, it sounds like it is worth the time and effort to learn about. Sending you lots of warm fuzzies to take with you to Indiana! emoticon

my beautiful grocery cart of the future

I shopped at Trader Joe's today and was marvelling at my selections. My overall goal is:

maintenance habit building

My cart had lots of food that are

low salt,
high fiber,
rich in folate, zinc and vitamin E
and largely unprocessed with the exception of low sodium butternut squash soup.

This is what my grocery cart should like in the future and I did a little woohoo! in my head as I checked out. Way to go Allie!

I look at what other people put in their cart as a way to find new foods. Today I tried unsulphured apricots...they are a little ugly...brown, not orange , but less of a known carcinogen....

    Thanks for the sulpher link, I'll be looking into that! It's interesting, I hadn't thought about it before. I don't buy dried fruit too much unless it's in a recipe or for baking, but when I do, I hadn't ever thought about the sulfur.

better sleep

I got a whopping 91% sleep efficiency number after adding GABA to the melatonin after the previous 65%. It really makes a huge difference in eliminating all the "in bed" but "not asleep" time.

It's a rainy day in cleveland...and I love to jog in the rain. I have all these to dos and think maybe they can wait one hour? (bartering with self)

Friday I begin the second para gone cleanse. Im excited because I feel like the old me.

    Boy could I use some sleep efficiency...I wasted a couple hours in bed last night after waking up at 1:30 am. What is GABA?
Thank you for your flylady.net suggestion! as soon as I am done writing this I am going there. I haven't utilized the website, but I did read a quote from it in a book I read about organization that was super motivating...it was about cleaning your kitchen sink. Just start with one thing, a shiny kitchen sink, and see how much better you feel. It works! My kitchen sink is dirty right now, perhaps I should start there.
Thank you so much for your post on my blog, it was very encouraging! It is good to know I am not alone. I am going to flylady.net and do some brainstorming this weekend.

    How do you figure sleep efficiency? Just curious, because I struggle with sleep too. I use Chinese herbs that I get from my acupuncturist to help along with melatonin.
