cherries and walnuts

Thursday, May 23, 2013

I had thought juicing would get boring, but two things happened.

My tongue and palate have become more sensitive to the juice. I taste the little differences made by lemon, apple, and now I am adding cherries and walnuts to my late day meals for better sleep cycle regulation. Cherries and wanuts have melatonin.

I read that on Thrive forward and and curious to see if this will help me on my 7-8 hours of sleep 5x/wk goal.

The second thing that happened is I keep finding articles on Thrive that expand my food choices. The other day, there was a picture of a mint berry concoction that made me drool. I have mint in the garden!
And I am going to experiment with some chai flavored formulations.

Our local chinese american market has some YAM beverages and I will get to those one of these weeks.
SO far so good. My sister is coming for a three day visit and is excited to have a juicing spa. I may have to take her to the beach too!

courage to step on the scale

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

I finally had the courage to step on the scale this week - last weigh according to Body media 2-10-13.
It was a little easier to bear being back on the program, and having progress in my short list of goals.

The program is getting better as I add more meals, especially late in the day. I have been adding an oatmeal berry smoothie, half at night and the rest for breakfast.

My last food shopping was at the chinese market. They had watercress, cilantro, gai-lan and baby bok choy. Watercress soup was goood.

2. No
3. Sparking, but I'd rather be knocking that wall down.

I'm my own happy therapy client I guess.

Sunday, May 19, 2013

I shop every other day now for fresh greens. I am looking for a way to track my intake of the groups of fibrous, leafy starchy vegs, fruit, legumes, sea vegs and grains and make sure I am hitting my nutrient goals. So I am cutting up old therapy books and making new cards with calories and nutrition breakdowns for a single recipe for use in planning and shopping.

I made these cards years ago. Did I have a warped sense of humor or what?
I have a kid's heart and love Richard Scarry's busytown. My client marked up an old book so I salvaged my favorite photos for shopping reminders

Here is my new style, working on the details. Its from a book of sock puppet art.

This has been a tumultuous week wracked with swings into cravings and back again. I rode the arboretum trail with the dog tonight and had SO much energy. I want to let the new vegan foods prove their worth to my body and try to not engage on an emotional level thinking about my last nights crave eating. I blended up some "prophylactic" breakfast grains with currants and almond milk for a pre bed snack with what ever leftover for breakfast. The bike ride felt good, fueled with raw celery soup with tahini, sundried tomatoes and fresh spinach. I had the energy for the uphill ride with no weakness in my quads.

My cupboards are thinned of the prepared wheat laden snacks. I disconnected my stove and microwave while I remodel and reorganize my food preparation areas around fresh and raw. I have a container to organize my seeds and nuts. Pretty soon (need a resp mask) the dog will be barking at the noise of the sawzall as I put a doorway in a wall. The whole kitchen flows beautifully! Plus I like using my sawzall and watching the plaster fly!

BEFORE DOORWAY...dah,..dah...dah

I'm proud of you for going vegan. Too strict for me. I still do fish and dairy.

Saturday, May 18, 2013

I've been very lazy today. My eating is right, but no exercise. 10 rounds of websudoku. Here I go, heading out the door.
