Detox - What I learned about me.

Detox Day 3 - Done!

That $94 on the detox - included a few supplements and some not so common things like Coconut oil - and Epsom Salt - which I never buy...I have soooo much left over I might continue it today...Or make a few salads and I do often make blender drinks.

I feel great and energized. I woke up day three feeling fresh! I feel like I spent the weekend at the spa - all the green tea, fresh blender drinks, and lavender scrubs.

Biggest learning - Being one step closer to the" feeling of hunger".
(no where near the hunger that some endure)

This is interesting for me - I am in the habit of not letting myself get even the least bit hungry - I can't believe how many times I had to avoid going out, snacks, food, candy, pizza, nuts - cocktails, beers and the thoughts of the Cabernet I have on hand.

I saw a difference in the mirror, on the scale and the tape measure.
But the best thing is the fresh start of eating clean. And breaking the coffee addiction.

Was it a challenge? - YES - it was hard to stay the course....but so glad a did it.

I wouldn't do it a 4th day......just eat well and clean. Great job. You learned you are strong than you think you are. The Cab would have done me in! LOL Especially during that IU game! Too tense! Great work, Sis!

Please be careful detoxing. Our bodies do a wonderful job of detoxing themselves when we eat well, drink plently of water and get enough rest. When we don't give our bodies what they need our bodies take it and they usually take muscle. emoticon

Detox - what will it do for me?

Detox – Day Two
So I had this great idea to do the 3 day detox by Dr. Oz.
First, the ingredients cost me $94 – you use about $16 a day...so they say.

I guess I didn’t really think it through – why am I doing it? What will it do for me?
What will I eat on Monday morning? Shake up the metabolism? Idk….
But here I am…and I love my Ninja blender!

I am done with day two –
I added 1cup of organic butternut squash soup – and skipped the snack drink.
I have been hungry but the drinks have been tasty and drinkable–
Part of the learning for me is to pass on foods/junk – to follow thru and to do without.

Biggest issue – no coffee…I have had a headache for two days.
I have been worn out (no coffee)– sleeping more – (no coffee again?)
Stayed home (avoid temptation) both Friday and Saturday night.

What will tomorrow bring…Will I make it through day 3?
Looking forward to a Monday weigh in - usually I stay away from the scale on Mondays due to my over indulging weekend habits.

Thoughts on a detox?

I'll bring you the healthy power bar my daughter made for Monday. Steel cut oats? I would suggest staying away from Whoppers (both the sandwhich and candy) and Big Macs. I'd eat what you normally eat on a regular day. You eat so well. Just go back to your routine.

Half Marathon - check!! Now What?

Monday, October 15, 2012

emoticon

My Half Marathon – well it is a part of the past…an awesome accomplishment!! I am so glad that I ran it and hit my goal of not walking at all – other than being sick prior to race day - I stuck to my training plan – at about 85%. It also kept me from “over drinking” the night before; I knew I had to run.

After the glow of the success grew dim…I felt – like… what is next? What now? Another HM? – A faster time? – A longer run? – a marathon? And then I remembered why I started running in the first place –
Oh yeah...
To lose weight – and guess what… I am sooo right where I started.
No weight loss – but no gain either –
Running became the primary form of fitness – biking the second.
No weights at all – no yoga – no Pilates - no ab work – all cardio.

I have a seriously extensive collection of business wear that is tight or too small. I was to maintain the weight to fit into these existing outfits - still one size away – and about 8-10 lbs. from the smallest “favorite.”

So my new clear goals –
Consistent Fitness for two weeks - by Halloween
Lose 6-8 lbs. – and weigh 130 – 135 by Thanksgiving
Maintain and weigh 128 – 132 by Christmas

Fitness

1. Work out at least three mornings per week – 30 minutes each time – workouts – will include circuit training – weights – floor – and/or yoga
2. Continue running plan 2-3 days– and work towards a faster 5k/10k thru fartleks – interval training
3. Track fitness minutes
Nutrition
1. Track everything! Eat Clean – Prep food to be successful
2. 8 waters or more per day
3. Do not fall prey to the husbands snacking and bad choices – limit my drinking.
Rewards –
If I am consistent for two weeks – by 10/29/12 I will rejoin the Gym –!! WooHoo!!
If I make my goal by 11/22/12 I will buy some much needed running shoes!
If I hit my goal weight by 12/25/12 I will buy some new jeans for my skinny little ass!

Strength training, while enjoyable, doesn't get the same enthusiasm as my cardio. I've heard that training for halfs and longer events can actually prevent one from losing significant amounts of weight. I'm sticking with HMs for now, at least 1 per year I think, and just work on the time thing. emoticon on being able to run the whole thing. That's my goal for my next one; that and weighing about 15 pounds lighter :)

Congrats on your Half Marathon!! That's an incredible accomplishment. Be sure to take the time to savor and celebrate it. Your future plans look challenging, but doable. I think you've got a lot of good ideas there. Best wishes on your journey to your happy weight. I know you are already fit!! -Marsha

Congrats on your half-marathon! I absolutely love that distance, but you're right...often we don't see the weight loss we expect from running so much. I think it's because we're more often than not anaerobic when we're running...higher than the fat burning zone. So although its fun and rewarding to be able to run the HM distance, and even more fun to challenge ourselves to get faster or run farther, cross-training in the fat burning zone is something that I tend to overlook. Regardless, I share your love for running!

This is EXACTLY what I went through after my first Half, right down to never strength training for fear of interfering with HM training! Oh wait, you did better than me in one respect: I gained 5lbs during training the first time.

But if you decide to do another in a few months, feel good knowing that you CAN eat clean and do strength training and still run a killer half. That is, if you want to do another. For now, enjoy your well-earned break and getting back into your favorite outfits!

What is stopping me...

Monday, August 20, 2012

Dare To Be Your Best!??
What in the world is stopping me?

Health and FitnessGirl
I have a plan and I set it into motion – I read, talk and research about health and fitness daily.
I need to plan my meals and snacks – I need to be more diligent about tracking. More food prep is needed – substitute unhealthy snacks for a better choice.

I felt fat this weekend – no, it was not just because I was hanging out with my beautiful 21 year old niece. I seriously looked down – as a sat in my two-piece - at a nice little beer gut that has been sneaking up on me. My clothes are tight – and I do not feel at my best – I look like a much bigger girl than I feel in the photos. I am disappointed in my lack of discipline and focus.

My HM Training is progressing – but at a cross roads – do I keep going – the main goal is to finish – however I felt that the weight would fall off in the process…so it has not been rewarding in “scale terms”. I need to run 7-8 miles this week. I am concerned.
I am six weeks away.

I need to add weights or a different type of fitness to get out of this rut – plateau buster!!
I have been running three times a week – about 9-12 miles a week. And bike riding 10-30 miles per week. Cardio Junky!! No weight loss.

Party Girl
I have had to fight off a few hang overs this weekend – well every weekend – the summertime on the boat seems to be all about the boatdrinks these days – well, always has been. I have trouble managing the calorie intake – and even though we are very active – swimming, climbing dunes, walking beach, dancing all night…I still consume too much. I have toyed with quitting for the next six weeks. Reaching the running goal…would be easier… Drinking is just so much fun…huge sacrifice…despite knowing how bad it is for me.

So there it is...now to turn things around.
