Eating... and tracking

Saturday, March 23, 2013

I am finding out that I am eating more than I should. I know my goal for this month is to track everything. Do you think I should change the goal to staying in my range or just keep tracking? I also should be measuring instead of eyeballing it. I am just a goal person I need advice. Help.

Just keep tracking. The whole thing is a process, and right now you are "learning" to keep track of everything you eat. Just trust the process, eventually you will be right where you want to be.

I am a firm believer that you should never restrict or withhold or reduce--just keep adding. Add more veggies, more leafy greens, more fruits, more movement, more sleep, more water....eventually you will crowd out the unhealthy stuff without ever having made yourself do without anything.

Tracking isn't effortless but it is worth it.

I bought a little 5-lb oxo kitchen scale, and I keep all of my measuring utensils out on the counter so it's very easy for me to know exactly what I'm eating.

If you're motivated to try to keep your calories within a healthy range, you should definitely go for it. You don't want to throw too much at yourself too fast, I guess studies have shown that when you build up toward a healthy lifestyle it becomes more permanent or something, but yeah, you should do that if you want.

changing my goals again!

Thursday, March 21, 2013

I am going to listen to everyone and cut back. I just feel like when I cut back I don't find success in my weight loss. but I will try it because this isn't working either. I guess if I do something it is better than nothing. I feel kind of defeated right now but I will plug on.

Eating Goal:
Track everything I eat

Exercise Goal:
Exercise 30 minutes 5 times a week,

Spiritual Goal:
Have a quiet time everyday( 15 minutes a day)

Other Goals:
Work on decluttering my desk (5 to 10 minutes a day)

That should help. Right now my biggest problem is my eating. I just want to eat everything in sight. I need to get more discipline.

I love your goals, simple, do-able, realistic!
1. track everything
2. exercise 30 min 5x week
3. quiet time for 15 min a day
4. Ten minutes on your desk each day.

This you can do. Now stick with it for a month, let it become a habit. On my spark blog everyday I list my goals and how I did at them for the day. And if I accomplished my goals, the day was a success no matter what else didn't get done. If I don't accomplish them, the day was a waste, regardless of what else got done. That attitude really puts your goals in perspective and helps them cement into habit. =)

Week 3/17 - 3/23

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Today I was an ok day I did get exercise in but eating hasn't been good. I just can't seem to master this. I guess that is why I am still over weight. It doesn't seem how small the steps are.

Eating Goal:
Track everything I eat
Eat healthy snacks.

Exercise Goal:
Exercise 30 minutes 5 times a week,
Walk 8000 steps a day,

Spiritual Goal:
Have a quiet time everyday( 15 minutes a day)

Other Goals:
Work on decluttering my desk (5 to 10 minutes a day)

I just want to quit but I know I can't and I wont. I know if I quit I will just get bigger at least right now I am not gaining

Well, you still have 6 goals--try cutting them down some. When you cut your goals back that one week you to only 3 or 4, you had SUCCESS and you said, "I did so well I think I"ll add some more this week" and ever since then you didn't do as well.

Why not go back to what worked (3 or 4 goals) and just stick with that for the month. If you add 3 new goals a month, by the end of the year, you will have 3 DOZEN!!

But if you keep having 6 goals and not doing them, by the end of the year you will still have zero. Give yourself a chance to adapt. It takes a MONTH to form a habit...

And plus, you really can't quit. You would be quitting on yourself, on your family, on your spark friends, on your God that gave you this marvelous body as a gift and then watched you abuse and neglect it...

YOU cannot quit. This is not an option. You deserve to be a healthy, happy person. How about 15 min of exercise everyday. Don't be so hard on yourself. Take one day at a time....one meal at a time. Remember to drink water with every meal and snack.
You can do this. emoticon

Might I suggest starting slower and accepting slower progress as the trade off to continuing to move forward? For me (I am 5'2", 244 lbs mother of four who recently got married to a healthy normal person), my efforts to clean up my nutrition and house along with adding in exercise were a bit too much to handle all at once! I started with my house (very important to the non-messy person I just married) and as it started getting tidier, I felt the need to de-clutter me as well. I started an exercise program, but couldn't manage that AND food at the same time without taking off someone's head. So I simply started tracking my food - didn't matter what I ate, so long as I tracked it - and focused more on my exercise. A few days later, I WANTED to eat differently and have started that (though I have still eaten some well planned high-calorie desserts in there). We don't "master" a subject our first day of college...in fact, "mastering" is another whole degree program away! Just keep learning and applying what you can when you can! YOU WILL GET THERE!!

Also, SparkCoach is a great resource (in my opinion).

Are your goals a bit too lofty? I recall from reading the Spark that even 1 small goal manageable to be done every day is a kicker. I have been thinking about this a lot lately. I like the 10 fitness minutes every day. I think I could muster that energy even on a low motivation day.

Regardless, you'll dig deep & find your motivation. It seems cyclical, so it will be back! Just keep plugging away in the meantime. You got this!
