The treadmill is definitely getting a workout! I have been on it every day since we purchased it except for one day. My husband is not quite so faithful I don't think. He's supposed to be using it for cardiac rehab but since I still work and he doesn't, that means that I can't monitor him 24 hours a day. Pretty soon we'll get him going on a more regular schedule. I keep trying to explain to him that it would also help his blood glucose numbers, but that hasn't sunk in yet either I guess. I'll just have to keep setting a good example and keep after him.

Yes, they say 10,000 steps a day is the key and that can be broken up into multiple workouts on the treadmill - about 5 miles total. The key to lowering blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure.

You keep doing your thing a give that treadmill a run for the money. All I can say is the nagging is not going to make him move. He has to determine on his own term when to make it happen. My spouse is the same way. I try to encourage him to use a gym membership that he signed up for and has used 5 times.

Better Eating

Friday, June 28, 2013

I have been working on eating healthier this week. It's going pretty well. I found a Greek Yogurt that I really like and it has lots of protein in it, so that is a good thing.

Last weekend we also purchased a treadmill. I have an exercise bike already but the treadmill was more for my husband to get his strength back after spending most of the past year and a half in and out of hospitals with cancer, heart attack and eventually surgery to remove his spleen. The added benefit it that I can also use the treadmill. I'm strating out slow and steady. So far I have walked on the treadmill every day since we brought it home last Saturday evening. Today at work I noticed that my jeans are a little bit loose. That was a pretty good feeling! It makes me want to continue so I can go shopping for a smaller size!

Getting back into it

Friday, May 17, 2013

When I was ordering books the other day for one of the kids, I decided to order The Spark Solution for me. It came today so now I can begin reading and getting back to getting motivated to lead a more healthy life, especially in the exercise department. We don't do too badly at our house with the food (even though I sometimes eat too much!), but the exercise is more difficult to get in - especially with the interesting winter and spring we've had in Minnesota this year. I don't ever remember seeing multiple inches of snow in April before - and I've lived in Minnesota for 55 years!

So, now I have The Spark Solution and have also joined SparkCoach. So, I'm hoping for some good improvements before I go back to see my doctor in August. She'll probably ask me what took me so long to get going! (Not really, she knows what I've been dealing with for the past 18 months with my husbands health - cancer, heart attack, another type of cancer) Today is the first day of the new series. I'll try harder this time around! We've got lots of places we want to go yet and lots of things we want to do yet and it would be much easier if I was carrying a lot less weight around. I'm also hoping that if I get rid of enough weight, my husband will stop telling me that I snore! It worked for him so I'm hoping it will work for me also!

Have a great day everybody in SparkPeople land!

Finally Friday!

Friday, May 21, 2010

I am so glad that it is now Friday night. It was a very long day at work. Trying to do things for 4 others (all men) in our office plus my own work can be very demanding some days, like today. It also doesn't help that the economy is poor and people don't pay their bills in 30 days like they used to. But, we will survive somehow.
On the bright side, I did get the air conditioning fixed in my van today. It is supposed to be hot here this weekend, so I was glad for that. However, I have to take it back in on Monday because he thinks there's a leak in the A/C system somewhere but he couldn't find it today. He put dye in the refrigerant and should be able to find the leak next week after the vehicle has been run for awhile with the a/c on and the refrigerant has a chance to circulate through the system. I'm learning way too much about how vehicles work lately. I prefer to just have them fix it and write the check.
So, after a very long day, my husband and I went to get the flowers for the planters by the front door and then stopped at Culver's for supper. I should have eaten before we left. I couldn't believe how many calories were in one small meal. I ate enough in one meal for the whole day!!! And we wonder why America has so many obese people in it. I don't when I pay attention to the calories. I know it was my idea to eat out, but I think we'd better not do that again for a very long time. Like maybe wait for our anniversary at the end of June. I do much better calorie-wise when I stay in my house and cook myself.
I think it's time for bed so I can get up and clean my sewing room tomorrow. Then perhaps I can finish moving the rest of my stuff into town from our farm. The farm house needs to be cleaned out soon. People will want to be looking at it to purchase it. That would be a good thing.
Tomorrow will be a better day for calories. Probably exercise, too, although I didn't do too badly there today.

The calories are still not where I need them to be. I need to work harder on healthier choices for lunch and snacks. I had to stop at the grocery store on my way home from work so I had some walnuts between work and the store. There's a lot of fat in walnuts!!!!! But they tasted good and kept me from buying junk at the grocery store that I didn't need. Bought a quilting magazine instead. Now if there was just time to look at it. I think that's a project I could do as I ride my exercise bike, which I need to do right now. Got some exercise by moving more stuff from the farm house to town. Went up and down the stairs quite a few times. And carrying stuff on the way down helps also. Didn't get out for a walk even though it was nice. Still trying to get to where I need to be with eating and exercising. Blogging does make you more accountable to what you're doing. There's hope out there.
