Sleep, I miss you.

Tuesday, February 09, 2010

I went to bed at 1 am last night. Not my finest moment. It was hard to go to bed though, because the husband picked up an overnight shift. Then he called me just after 7a (Tuesday is usually my day to SLEEP IN until at least 9a) and his car was stuck in the driveway. The plow truck had been through, and that always creates a huge mound of snow in front of your driveway. So, I climbed out of bed sleepily and pulled on my boots, coat and hat. We spent about 20 minutes trying to shovel it out.

After that we both crawled into bed. I realized I probably couldn't sleep, so I got up and attempted to use the snowblower to clear the snow. I didn't want to have to wake Joe up (the husband) to do it for me before I went to work. I know he would have done it without any complaints, but I just wanted him to be able to sleep. I've never used a snowblower before, but I managed to get it started and did the driveway and all of our sidewalks! I was freezing and sweating all at the same time when I finished.

Then I debated on whether I would work out or lay in bed for a little longer. I chose bed. I think I dozed off and on for an hour. Things like the neighbor's dog kept me from getting too comfortable.

I finally decided to get out of bed, eat something, and get ready for work. I made myself a one egg +whites omelette with green peppers, feta cheese, and salsa. Mmm!

I'm not sure if I will have the energy to workout when I get done at work, but I'm ok with it if I don't. I sort of feel like snow blowing/shoveling was a bit of a workout, so I won't fret. At the very least I suppose I could hop on my gazelle while I watch LOST tonight! YAY FOR LOST!!! (I am a LOST junkie)

The Bachelor

Monday, February 08, 2010

Every season I promise myself I'm not going to get sucked into the drama that is "The Bachelor." And almost every season I somehow get sucked in! I got home and worked out (go me) and just thought I'd check and see what was on TV. TADA! The Bachelor! My sister has been talking to me about it off and on, and I've caught 2 previous episodes. So I was going to watch just a few minutes of it. Two hours later, still in glued to the TV!!! My sis and I call each other on commercial breaks to discuss what is happening in the show. It's almost like watching it together.

I have to admit I was rooting for Allie (sp?) who got sent home tonight. I immediately looked up realitysteve.com and found out how the season ends (because lets face it, reality steve is always right when it comes to the Bachelor!). He also had a post from Feb 4th that predicted exactly what would happen tonight. So now that I know how the rest of the show will go, maybe I'll be able to skip all the time in front of the tv! Then again, maybe not. I do love me some drama!!!

I'll just have to try to justify the tv time with some stretching/marching in place :)

P90X Plyometrics- can you say ouch?!

Sunday, February 07, 2010

So, I have been doing P90X for 37 days. This week I decided to switch from the "lean" rotation to the "classic" rotation. I knew the plyometrics video was part of the classic rotation, and I wanted to try it. I was concerned that I might not be able to do it (I always feel like my knees are weak) but I thought I'd just give it a try and modify where I needed to.

I did the ENTIRE video today, all the way through, and with very few modifications! My knees feel just fine, though my lungs have the feeling of "I can't breathe" (you know, the feeling you get when you are running faster or further than you've ever run and you can just feel your lungs trying to get stronger and be able to take in more air?). I feel like jelly and am sure my muscles will feel "interesting" tomorrow. But it was worth it. I really needed to do a GOOD workout. I have felt like the last week or so I have just been putting forth minimum effort. Today I went all out!

It is a great start to my week :)

You continue to amaze me. You are really making me want to try this even though it seems scary. When I make it through NMTZ without stopping, I'll try this.

When you want to quit...

Thursday, February 04, 2010

No, I don't want to quit SP, but I do want to quit my job! It has been driving me completely insane lately. I need to remember why I'm doing this.

My husband is an Iraq veteran (he was in the Army Infantry). When we got married we agreed that he wouldn't go back into the army. It was a condition I imposed before I could say yes to the engagement. He agreed. We've been married for three years, and you know what? He's wanted to be in the army ever since. He hasn't begged me or even tried to talk me into it. But from little things he said or did, I could tell that was where his heart truly was.

About 6 months ago I told him if that was truly where he felt his calling was, I wanted to be supportive of him. Funny how 3 years can change your ideas so entirely. So, now he is back in school and planning on rejoining as an Army Chaplain. HE is the reason I am keeping this job. I want to support his dream. I picture him working as a Chaplain, and I just know he will be so great at it. (I also want him to be able to finish school so that when we do have a family, I'll be able to stay home with our kids.)

It's just hard to get through day to day life because my job really does make me SO CRAZY sometimes. I just need to remember that it is temporary. What's 3 years in the scope of an entire life? Nothing!

So, SP friends, tell me I can do this! I can keep this job for 3 or 4 or 5 more years. And one day, I'll be able to quit :)

Challenges are much easier to face when they have a clear end date. You can do this and it will make you a stringer person in the long run!
RUN2LOSE34 2/5/2010 10:10AM

Hang in there! Three or four more years will go by fast, I'm sure of it and then you can quit, raise your family and see your husband's dream come to life. It will be worth it in the end! Just take one day at a time.

Hang in there! Like you said, it's only temporary. When you feel like your head's going to explode, remember that!

emoticon It may not be easy, but you will get through it. I can say this because I was in a similar situation. I had a job that I really hated, but I had to keep at it for a time before I could quit. Boy did it feel good to quit. emoticon
