Onward to Bethlehem ...

Every year I attempt the virtual journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem over the 12 days of Christmas. This is a journey of 75 miles (approximate distance) and begins Christmas day (although some years I start on Christmas eve, if the weather is bad and the gym is closed). I run or walk an average of 6.25 miles per day (some days less, some more, as long as it works out to 75 miles by January 6th). This year I am part of a holiday challenge that lets you count each 10 minutes of exercise as 1 mile, which makes my journey substantially easier.

Anyone interested in joining me on this journey ? I would love some company ! emoticon

Tim Conway's secretary ? Well, I have started to waddle like her, since I torqued my back running up six flights of stairs with a 45lb backpack full of meds (part of my job). I had to cancel long run yesterday, because I could barely walk upright . I'm hoping to do five really easy miles this am to loosen things up. emoticon

    I had a bit of a chuckle--I watched a few of Carol Burnett's old clips this weekend on Youtube and Mrs. Wiggins was one of them! lol That being said, her walk looks pretty painful--hope you get better soon!

I have this crazy schedule, I work 12 hour night shifts (7pm to 7am) 7 days in a row and then have 7 days off. During my work week I do what I call "bookmark" workouts. These are workouts designed to maintain my current level of fitness. I try really hard not increase mileage or effort during this week, because I never get enough sleep to perform well. I do, however, keep a really close eye on food management, and it is almost always is reflected on the scale. On my off week, I really go hard at it exercisewise and just can't seem to get as committed to calorie monitoring (this may be because I fall under the sway of my carb addict, junkfood junkie spouse when I'm not at work, but I do admit that I am the gatekeeper of my own mouth !). I almost always gain at least a small amount on my off week, despite some pretty major calorie expenditures. I guess it's time to figure out how to "bookmark" my eating habits.

    It seems like a hard schedule to keep but a great schedule the week you are off! You're probably recovering from tiredness that week though.

I ran nine miles today, longest run in almost two years. Starting to feel "real" again (as in a real runner) !

Made it back into the weight room after at least a one year "pause"and an hour long spin class this morning. I'd forgotten how much I really dislike stength training and how much of a "cardio junkie" I am. Got to get past that and embrace "carrying the weights"!
