Has it Really Been a YEAR?

Monday, December 01, 2014

What happened people? I have been letting the end slide! Well that is DONE. I just signed up for another half marathon so here comes training. I would like to loose 10 pounds before it as well so we shall see how this goes! I am up to doing 10 miles on my long runs again so I am pretty close, and the race isn't until the end of January so there is some time. It is hard to let go of your old speeds though, I know I wont be as fast as I was last year, but that is ok (I keep telling myself) it is just getting out the door!

In other news this little curly headed girl is turning two this month! We are having her party next weekend (tea for two theme!) She is developing so quickly, she sings all the words to songs, loves dragons and swimming, and has started pre-school it is crazy!

Here we are after my little (4 mile) run today, snow is still here!

What a cutie! Congrats on signing up for the half. If you are doing 10 miles now you will have no problem at all. I know that we did 12 for our longest training run about 3 weeks before and then tapered. Love the tea for two theme.

Setting goals is so important, it's wise to keep reminding yourself that the speed (or any other variable) might be different.

December Check in

Thursday, December 05, 2013

Hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving! We did, and did some major Thanksgivakkah celebrating as well. I just got finished with the Seattle half, it didn't go quite as planned. My last race I ran about 8:30 miles, so this time I was hoping for more like 8 minute miles. But with getting sick a bunch and life in general I ended up running a 1:58 over the half marathon which is more like a 9 minute mile. I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, I wish I ran a better race. I walked a lot and just felt crummy, but then again I know I am fit and life is good and I am happy I ran it! (some pics for you)

I have another race in January so I have time for a re-do! I also am trying to get my weight down, I put on about 5 pounds over the last 3 months, I am back down to 3 to loose but I am trying hard to stick to my plan over the holidays so I can run strong in January!

In other news my little girl is turning ONE! in just about 2 weeks. I really can't believe it, this year has just FLOWN by. It has been the best year of my life, hands down and I am looking forward to her party but also feeling a little sad- it is hard to see your baby grow so quickly! We just love her to bits!

What a great update! I'm glad that although you didn't run the time you wanted, that you can still see your race as a win. I wouldn't be able to do it! Happy Birthday to your little one!

October (yeah it is a little late) update

Saturday, November 23, 2013

Here are some fall activities:

At the pumpkin patch!

And a little Halloween fox:

In other news, I am running the seattle half marathon next weekend. I am NOT where I wanted to be (I got sick twice!) But I should be able to get about what I got in September (which is still good, I was just hoping to know about 20 seconds per mile off, oh well!)

Running Injury (and baby pics)

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

Actually it isn't so bad. After 5 months of steady training with no injuries and wondering what all the fuss was about, I managed to give myself bursitis of the hip from my race. I tried to ignore it and even though I told myself I was going to take it super easy the week after the race of course I failed, and ended up making it worse.

So I "grounded" myself and said NO RUNNING for a week. This is KILLER for me. I run almost every day and I am so miserable. I tried hot yoga, I tried some strength cross training, but basically I am "angry eating" and getting pretty dang grumpy. I have tried foam rolling (I don't have one, but I used a friends) and ice packs, but I think it is just going to take time. UGH. The very worst. I can't WAIT to run!

In other news my baby is now 9 months old. This is an odd time for us Mums, 9 months in, and 9 months out (though the out months have gone by 100 times faster, how did that happen?)

It is also an amazing transition over here. She has started taking a few steps and is getting so independent! It is crazy, but also amazing to watch her personality come out more and more. She is so wild!

Love her big smile! She is so cute. You must be one proud mama ; )!

I know the feeling of not being able to run. It really does suck. Don't let it get the best of you. You know you will run again and that is what matters right? Take care and don't make it worse getting back to it too soon!

Running injuries suck! Think of this as time to find a complimentary activity to crosstrain- only running will lead to more injuries :( Hopefully you will be back at it soon.

Your daughter is adorable. Time only goes by quicker as they get older so take lots of pictures and enjoy every minute of it emoticon

30th Birthday 1/2 Marathon Recap!

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

Ran my first half marathon on my 30th Birthday and it was AWESOME! Finished in 1:51 and guess what, second in my (new) age group and 16th overall! Not bad for a birthday girl! I felt great until mile 11, and then it was a major mind game. My last two miles were way slower. I can tell I need to up my mileage for my next one (yes, next one, I already signed up for my next half in December!)

I actually stopped running about a 1/4 a mile to the finish (I didn't know I was so close) and an angel-fellow-runner yelled, "you can't stop now! You are TOO close!" so I started up again and sprinted on down to the finish with an average pace of 8:31, way faster than I thought I would get!

I feel so thankful for my awesome parents, husband and baby girl for coming out to support me running in the rain! (note my awesome birthday shirt compliments of my husband!)

Such a perfect day!!

According to my super beloved Garmin (a b-day gift!) Splits were:

Thank you all for your birthday wishes! Pasta, it might look even but actually the first few miles were up and down hills so average pace was more like 8:30 and then I dropped 20 seconds per mile on the last two miles, which is no good. Good thing there is always a next time to challenge yourself!

Your splits look pretty even despite your commentary (although it does sound funny). You'll even them out in your next HM, no doubt!

Kudos on the 2nd place finish in a competitive field. Very impressive to do so well in your first half!
