PSA Time: Protect yourself!

Thursday, February 14, 2013

It's Valentine's day today... doesn't matter if you're in a head over heels relationship with someone or just with yourself, or maybe you're still looking for that someone special...

Either way, you have to be warned:

Sometimes ya need to put a cap on all that awesome to give the rest of us a little bit of a break. :)

Resolve, not Resolutions.

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

Or Priorities, not perfection. You decide. :)

Thought about doing a whole big long post about why New Years Resolutions are stooped (I mean, really, you’ve made promises to radically alter your life in the midst of chaos [aka the holidays after too much consumption and disruption of schedule] and then berate yourself for straying from that promise a week later. Silliness.)

Then I got this email and figured that the person who wrote this is smarter than I am and said it much better… so I’m not gonna re-invent the wheel. :)

I do wish you all the happiest, and healthiest of years, with an abundance of joy today and always!

Paleo RD Tip of the Week

Are You Biting Off More Than You Can Chew?

It’s been another fast and furious 365 days, and since the Mayan Apocalypse turned out to be a bust, we’re ringing in the New Year. For many of us that means resolutions – and I’m not talking just the diet kind either (that one’s a given). No, there’s the new workout plan, new budget, more family time, better organization… and the list goes on. Often our New Year’s resolution snowballs out of control and becomes a list (or maybe an entire catalog) of resolutions, most of which will be given up or forgotten by the time February rolls around.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with making a list of things that you’d like to improve, and the beginning of a New Year is a great time to start – but OVER committing yourself by trying to change everything at once is not a recipe for success. It’s highly unlikely that you’re going to be able to achieve “Muscle and Fiction” cover model appearance AND still kick ass and take names on the performance front, or to have an immaculate house AND spend more time with your family. And if your list has all four of these things on it plus starting a business, taking up Zen meditation, and teaching your dog to fetch – sorry Charlie (or whatever your name is), it’s not gonna happen.

This year instead of ‘biting off more than you can chew’, really think about your priorities. Make your ‘resolutions list’, but then sit down and consider which of the changes is the MOST important to you, and commit your time and energy into making it a reality. If getting lean is your ultimate goal – then maybe hold off your Crossfit Games debut until next year when you can focus on performance. If spending more time with your family is important, then this is definitely not the time to start training for an Ironman triathlon. Consider what’s MOST important to you and make it happen. When you’ve got goal number one under your belt, move to priority two and give it your all. Slowly chip away at your list, reevaluating your priorities as you go.

Success tastes great – take a bite, chew well, swallow and repeat. Keep it manageable and choking isn’t an option!

Happy New Year!

I've actually kind of set up one focus area per month (a la Gretchen Rubin's Happiness Project). One thing at a time and kind of add on.

Have a blessed 2013!

Friday Funnies: End of the World Edition...

Friday, December 21, 2012

Happy End of the World/Winter Solstice day! Also known as: Friday.

Thought I'd celebrate another beautiful day on this earth with some silliness (because I do so enjoy the silliness!):

For the REM Fans...

And for my Geeky Doctor fans out there, don't forget to listen for the Tardis to say thank you. Again.:

Here's a larger image:

And one last frightening thought:

(Hmmm... maybe a total technology fast wouldn't be such a bad thing!)

For those stuck in the grips of winter's wrath, remember my dad's fond saying: Winter's back is broken!! Spring is on it's way!!

Enjoy and Merry Christmas!
