I love the scenes in Silver Linings Playbook when Bradley Cooper is running with that stupid trash bag on. I'm off to C25K Week 1 Day 3

C25K 1

Monday, November 11, 2013

I've been walking every day here. i'm not working this year and having the time is a gift. I watched American Beauty on TV the other night and when I saw the scene with Kevin Spacey jogging, I felt an urge to jog again. I looked for pictures of Kevin Spacey jogging, but could not find one I liked. So here's my inspiration. Matt Damon. Can't go wrong with Matt.

Starting C25K again. It's hilly in my neighborhood, but I'm taking it slow. Enjoying it.

Update: Today I did the week 1 podcast 2x. I like being outside for an hour. Not too tough. Enjoyed it.

Congratulations on starting the C25K, I think it took me about 3/4 attempts at it to finish it but it was worth it. I've been running now for over two years and can't imagine life without it. Best of luck over the next nine weeks, you show those hills who is boss emoticon

To Map My Run??? Or Not to Map My Run???? That's the question

Monday, June 24, 2013

Friend suggested I use the Map My Run app.
It was neat to see how far I slogged---3.2 miles.
It was NOT neat to see how slowly I slogged. It's actually a downer.
Whatever, just keep going. One foot in front of the other.
I enjoy it, so why am I worrying about this?

Slogged again today using Map My Run. Another 3.22 miles. I like to imagine I'm running a 5k. I'm making peace with my speed and celebrating my distance.

Thanks for the encouragement, spark people!

What matters is that you did it!!! Slow is better than not at all!

I really enjoy the Map My Run app even though I know that I don't use it to its fullest potential. I think you did a great job! It will be fun to watch your pace improve over time. Just remember that you can't expect improvement every single time. I fall into that trap at times and get annoyed with myself when I'm slower than the time before. Watch your trends and you will be pleased!

Today's goal: Move

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

I haven't been getting out and moving, even though that was my solemn vow
for summer. I am going to get out today for a walk or a slog.

Sometimes I record my daily ponderings as simple truths and small victories. One of the first times I did this it was about activity.
Simple Truth: Taking those steps out the door and maybe even the first 5-10 minutes has got to be the hardest part of getting up and moving. It would be so easy to sit there and make excuses and maybe take a nap. Just get up and put one fook in front of the other!
Small Victory-When you get moving and complete 15, 20 30 minutes or more walking, jogging, whatever-oh my-it's more than a small victory-what a feeling, well worth that initial effort.
I have to preach this sermon to myself a lot!

I'm not sure where you live, but the weather here has been beautiful to walk in. If it's warm, look for a shaded path or school track to walk at. I like to walk a the track because I can start in lane 1 and after each lap I change lanes so I don't have to worry about my mind wondering to the music I'm listening to or... And I don't have to worry about running in to neighbors who want to stop me and chat. I hope you start and keep walking. emoticon
