I think we all have heard of the quote “If God gives you lemons, make lemonade”. There are many uses for lemons as I so wonderfully learned last week when I put too much cayenne pepper in my chicken chili. Lemon juice reduces the flavor of the cayenne, which was great for our family. When you use too much cayenne pepper and you need a solution, add lemon juice. Yes there is more to lemons than lemonade and I am thankful.

As we begin our journey in 2013, we need to focus on what is important-God, Others and Ourselves to let our light shine and glorify our Father. As we change our focus, our eating and other parts of our lives will change for the better. We cannot do this along, we need God, who gives us the strength to do what is pleasing in His sight. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV . Happy New Year, Sparkfriends.

A New Year’s Eve Prayer
“Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea And a path through the mighty waters, “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:16, 18-19 NKJV . We thank You, Lord for the year just past-the difficult times that we did not thank you for and the wonderful times that we did think of you and gave thanks. We look forward to the future, asking Your blessing upon it. Be with us, Lord, and with all our loved ones. Keep us in Your care. Shine Your light upon our path, and make us acceptable in Your sight. Amen.

Many of us live in a world of “if only”. If only I had gone to college or trade school. If only I had told John or Sue how I really felt. If only I had taken that job. If only I had move to wherever. If only I had eaten better meals. STOP. In order to move on with our lives and forgive ourselves and perhaps others, we must choose to live in the “right now”. Right now, I choose to live the life that God has given me to the best of my ability by taking one day at a time. Right now, I choose to enjoy this day and to enjoy my life.

We are not slow learners, we are just quick forgetters. We forget what God has already done for us. God does mighty acts in our lives every day. There are times when things don't always work out the way we want them, but God is there to pick us up and help us deal with our trials. Today, we praise the Lord that He is good and kind. His goodness is unending, and we are always in His care. Psalm 16:2, 7-9: O my soul, you have said to the LORD,“You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.” I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel; My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.8 I have set the LORD always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope. Today, no matter what we face, God is here for us.
