Our Gifts

01/05/2013 Our Gifts…
“ But the fruit of the Spirit is Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness [and] self-control” (Gal 5:22-23 NKJV). Love life, every bit of it. Discover Joy in everything. Pursue peace foremost. Embrace patience. Convey kindness to all relationships. Explore the goodness in all creation. Preserve faithfulness in all relationships. Practice gentleness and self-control in relishing the inheritance of God and living with others. “As the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him” (2Co 3:18 TLB). With Christ, we are able to use all of these gifts to face whatever we need to enhance the quality of our life and to live a better life.

Love that He cares enough to equip us. For without Him, I am a mess. Thanks for the encouragement on my blog. Today was tons of fun with my family. Enjoy the rest of weekend! Jen emoticon

Can You Name the Stars?

Friday, January 04, 2013

God can. ” He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name” Psalms 147:4. We serve an awesome God who cares about us—each of us. God knows our names. It is wonderful to know that He does not get our needs confused. Today, I want to encourage anyone that feels that they are along or that what they are going through is insurmountable. He knows the name of His stars; God knows loves us and He cares about us.

I'm not an astronomer, not even an amateur one. I can find Castor and Pollux, then Orion's belt, and I'm finished. But I do enjoy looking at God's fabulous handiwork. Who else could hang all this upon nothing and have it remain in order. And He just SPOKE it into being! Amazing. No wonder He said people would look upon creation and know there was a Creator (provided they were honest hearted).

Sweets have always, always been problematic for me—I can never just eat one serving. I have learned not to cook sweets at home unless my family is visiting and will consume the entire dessert, because I have very little control when it comes to sweets. Yes, I have read many articles, about “How to Conquer Your Sweet Tooth”, but the articles have not helped me over the long term. Yesterday at a reception for our newly elected official, I decided I would not go to the refreshment table unless I was sure that I would not pile my plate high as others were so happily doing with the delectable sweets that were beautifully decorated on the table. I had to convince myself that I could go to the table and just eat one serving of dessert, if I wanted to partake of the sweet smelling foods. As different people came by to sit with me to talk, slowly I stopped thinking, smelling or looking at the beautiful trays of desserts. Just for today, I thought, I will not let my obsessive sweet tooth win. Just for today, I will sit this buffet out. Just for today. “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God” (2Co 3:5 NKJV). emoticon

Not that was a great job! I too have a weakness for sweets and know just how hard it is to ignore all that luscious goodness. You ROCK!

I think we all have heard of the quote “If God gives you lemons, make lemonade”. There are many uses for lemons as I so wonderfully learned last week when I put too much cayenne pepper in my chicken chili. Lemon juice reduces the flavor of the cayenne, which was great for our family. When you use too much cayenne pepper and you need a solution, add lemon juice. Yes there is more to lemons than lemonade and I am thankful.

That's a great tip actually. The rest of my family loves pepper and spicy foods, and I... don't. Good to know that a little lemon juice might make some of the foods more tolerable for me. Thank you!

Focus on what lasts, not on what doesn't

Tuesday, January 01, 2013

As we begin our journey in 2013, we need to focus on what is important-God, Others and Ourselves to let our light shine and glorify our Father. As we change our focus, our eating and other parts of our lives will change for the better. We cannot do this along, we need God, who gives us the strength to do what is pleasing in His sight. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV . Happy New Year, Sparkfriends.
