Spark is so motivating! I just spent the past several hours reading various member pages and dayuum there are some straight weight assassins on here! So many people that WILL NOT settle for one more year, one more month or one more day of being unfit and unhealthy. People who have pulled no punches in fighting their way to better health. Literally been pounding away I should say!!! CONGRATS to all you Sparkers on doing your thang! I've been on the sideline way, way too long. I have no illusions about the battle ahead. Time to get it on and endure!!

So Hard to Say Goodbye

Starting this journey back again with an extremely heavy heart as I just lost my one and only brother back on March 8th (shortly after my last blog) and I miss him so very much. He was far from perfect (just like anyone else) but he was such a loving guy and good person. He was only 52 and would have been 53 on May 1st. I love you Bro and miss you deeply. Your memory and presence will remain with me always!

    emoticon Your brother being a Taurus was a "Down to Earth" type of guy, who loved life and all of its luxury, but was "real" about what he wanted and needed. A Taurus is a devoted friend and will "feed" you both with good food and with lots of hugs. Taurus is the "Bull" and can be stubborn, but you can draw from his strength.

  I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I also lost my only brother (he was also my best friend my whole life) on March 2nd, and he was only 24 so it sounds like we are going through similar emotional situations. At first, I was in disbelief (and I think I still may not have accepted it). Everyday is a blur of thoughts and memories of my brother; some that I love thinking about, and some that make me sad and a wreck. I feel like I lost the only person that truely knew me, and that I am alone. Thanks for your blog to remind me that other people go through this, and I can make it too.

One year Already?!?!

Wow! I've been a member of Spark for one year already and the time has certainly gone by fast. Back when I started on 12 Feb 2012 my weight was 292 lbs I believe and as of today (23 Feb 2013) I weigh (drum roll please)......295 lbs! NOT GOOD!!!

Like so many others this is such a lonely journey but I realize it's one that I need to and must take. I've never giving up on myself in anything and I'm certainly not going to this time either. I'm disappointed that the weight increased a little versus not going down at all but I expected that. I've been so freakin inconsistent this past year. I'll do good for a few weeks then fall off the wagon for a few months. Nobody can succeed with that kind of effort. And the bad part about it is that I know where my faults are yet I didn't take control of them like I knew I should have (will blog on that later).

That said, everyday is a new day and a new chance to do better than the day before. Like I said it's a lonely road but I'm okay with that. All roads lead somewhere so I'm gonna see where and how far this one goes!

    You can do this, make small changes - they will last longer. Cut out soda, or take the stairs instead of the elevator.

    5 years into this and I will tell you that consistency is one of the hardest parts of this journey. I will also tell you that this doesn't require perfection. If it did, none of us would succeed. You just need to be consistent more days that not. I am a fan of an occasional cheat day...if you are the type of person who can get yourself back on track without it turning into a cheat week or a cheat month.

Congrats on one year...and congrats even more for showing up and starting again. That shows that you really want it.

    I've been there! I agree with the others never give up! It doesn't have to be all or nothing, start with one small change and keep adding to it! Maybe you'll walk around the block once a day or drink 8 glasses of water or whatever you choose, but make the choice to change your life!

Time to Get Serious

I've been a Spark Member for two months now and mainly just looked around with a few comments here and there. Though I don't have any friends as yet, there are some pretty inspiring people on this site. Their weight loss has been amazing and the change in their appearance is literally like becoming a whole new person. Time for me to really commit myself to this. I know that exercise and being active ar not my problem.... it's the food that I do or do not eat that is. I can do this. I just need to be patient but persistent.

    No need to "get serious" just start ACTING! Weigh and measure your food. Choose green, green green and more green veggies and low fat protein. If you use the food tracker, you can see the # of carbs you eat too and they are oh so very important to keep under control. You CAN DO IT. Keep your eye on the prize and "act" your way to the finish line!

  Thanks TekGirl and MBW. I've always had terrible eating habits and over the past 10-12 years I've really paid for it. Will definitely take your advice though and dive right into this even if I do flounder around at first. Have a great week!

  It's OK to just stick your toe in the water while you figure out when and where you want to jump in...but jump you must! :) Well, actually, you don't have jump in at all but it sounds like you want to. Some people like to be pushed, others would prefer to inch their way in...whatever works for you is OK with the rest of us. It is honestly kind of fun once you get started - and I say that as someone who stood on the bank, testing the waters, for a very long time.

    You can do this it's not just about what we put in our mouth, there's a lot of emotional thinking that goes a long with it.
Sometimes when you know you've gone off track it's therapeutic to come on here and just take accountability for it in a blog. You can't change what you've put in your mouth but sometimes if you just get it off of your chest in writing it makes you feel better and the next day you seem to do better.
Let's face it we all have our days when we nit and pick, but somehow when you come on here and let it out and hear words of encouragement it just makes you feel like you can do it.
When you read others stories and see the dramatic changes they've made in their lives and bodies.
We all need to believe in ourselves and being on this site lets us see that we can really do what it takes for us to be healthy!
