rambling

Monday, September 30, 2013

I am losing a little a week, which is just fine with me. I am getting frustrated with myself for not being able to tell myself no. I can envision myself skinnier, but I still eat the crap food. My husband was very supportive yesterday and yelled at me for making ramon noodles for lunch, so he ate them and I made myself a healthy omelette instead with some fruit. He also made some awesome broiled tilipia for us on Friday. I on the other hand, get home from work and just want something quick and easy. I also need to start buying more of the healthy food and introducing to the family. My husband was NOT so supportive when he went to the store and bought us all our favorite flavors of ice cream though. I did only eat probably less than half a cup though. I have a friend at work who is doing the nutri system diet and she has lost about 30 pounds in a month, which makes me a little jealous, but I don't want a meal replacement, I want a healthier life. Any ideas on how to tell myself no and how to slowing introduce healthy to the family (who are all very skinny people by nature)? One is 47, 18 and 9.

Tack up stickies here and there where you will see them reminding yourself of what your wanting to do. Take a picture of a dress or outfit you want in a smaller size and tack it up in the kitchen. Make a list of short term goals with a reward to go with achieving it and check them off as you go. Put a jar in the kitchen or bedroom and drop in a dollar or your change every day you eat right then treat yourself to something.

protein

Saturday, September 28, 2013

Okay I am working this and I've lost 3.2 lbs in two weeks, which I am extremely happy with, but...I need to get my nutrition under control. I have some medical conditions that state I am supposed to have a high fiber diet, which I don't think I'm getting and on my daily intakes my carbs are always too high and my protein too low, which I know is contributing a lot to my tiredness. Can I get some quick, easy protein tricks? Also...yep one more thing. I don't know how to create the scale bar that has your start weight, your current weight and your goal weight. Can someone tell me how to do that. I am still not doing too good on the exercise either, but I am trying to work on that. Long way to go, but baby steps are good.

As far as setting your nutritional needs, I can't really help, but type in "high fiber diet" in the search box and you will find plenty of help.
Here's how to set up your weight ticker
To add a ticker to your Message Board post:
1. Roll your mouse over “My Trackers” in the top left corner of the screen.
2. Click on “Start,” which is the first link down.
3. You’ll now see your Start page.
4. Click on the “Account/E-Mail Preferences” link in the upper left corner of the page.

8. You’ll now see “My Ticker” page.
9. Check the box that says “Yes! Show my ticker on the Message Boards and my SparkPage.”
10. Select the ticker option you would like.
11. Once you select your ticker, a new section may open up below your ticker option. If a new section opens up, you will need to enter more information, such as a date, start weight & goal weight, type of event, what you gave up, etc. (Dates should be entered as m/d/yyyy. Ex: 1/1/2011)
12. Click on “Chose a ticker icon.”

working

Wednesday, September 18, 2013

Okay, starting off is extremely hard and I seem to sabotage myself at every turn. Even before I decided to do this I would only have like half a cup of ice cream when we had it. Last night, I did NO exercise AND had about 2 cups of ice cream. Why am I resisting what I want so badly? Tonight we tried a new food (egg plant) and I made a nice healthy dinner. It was good and I'm full (too full), which is another thing I need to learn to deal with. It is a little late, but I am going to go use my ski machine for at least 10 minutes. Hoping for more. Wish me luck. And I finally stayed within my calories today. emoticon

working it

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

I am going to do this! I can do this! I know that SP is going to be huge in my success! I made a normal meal that I would normally make and as I was entering it in this morning to add to my tracker, I looked at it and realized that there are a lot of ways that I could have made it healthy for me and my family without losing taste. I am going to make it again next week (but healthier) and see what they think. I went and got a bunch of fruit and veggies to make my days go by faster. I find if I have fruit, I eat a lot less junk. I am feeling energized and hopeful.

Need help!

Sunday, September 15, 2013

Okay, I need some help, some friends, etc... I not only want to lose this weight, I have to. I am 1 point away from being diabetic. I have been given a chance by my doctor to turn it around before I start on meds. I have absolutely no energy to exercise, so how do I motivate myself. All I want to do is sleep. I have cut pop 90% out of my life and have been drinking tons of water. I am eating healthier, but it is hard to do when you have to feed your family their food and still try to have money for all the fruits and vegetables you want. I have some here right now, but I can guarentee that by Tuesday they will be gone. I need help!!

Great acts are made from small deeds. Lao Tzu Remember your baby steps and build up to your major goals. Doing 10 minutes worth of exercise or taking a walk around the block can help jump start your exercise program. As for eating differently than the family, maybe you can encourage them to eat more healthily. I'm sure that you will do whatever it takes to keep from going on medication. Try to keep it simple and do what makes you feel good. The Leslie Sansone DVD idea is a really good one. I myself have Coach Nicole's Fit, Firm and Fired Up DVD that I do for 10 minutes daily. She works different muscle groups every 10 minute segment. There are seven targeted workouts and one 15 minute cardio blast workout on the DVD. It gets me moving. As for motivation, I go to the message boards for support and ideas. I find that I do better if I glean information from other sources. Wishing you great success with your goals. I know that you will do well, once you hit your stride. Take care and God bless, Deb

In my life I have discovered that I really, really, really have to want to do something in order to be successful. For me, at one time in my life, it was to quit smoking. Now it is to lose my extra weight once and for all. I have found that if my heart isn't really in it then I won't succeed.

If you really, really, really want to do this you will find the motivation from somewhere. Checking in with Spark People on a daily basis helps many of us stay focused and they always have great motivational quotes. Reading others blogs is another good place to find motivation

As for your grocery budget - at my house what I make is what everyone eats! They may just have larger portions than I do, but the food is the same for all. Eating healthier will be better for all of your family and making 1 meal will be less expensive.

Good luck on your journey and don't forget SP is a family. Just keep coming here and staying in touch.

emoticon on little step at a time. Don't overwhelm yourself. Just set one goal for yourself at a time to start with.

I tried to cook for me and cook for the family separate and it just didn't work. So I started cooking for all of us healthier. No more frozen potato options, instead we have frozen veggies baked, steamed, or fried up with seasoning. Then we eat a healthy meat option such as chicken breasts that are already cut in half before they ever make their way into the oven or broiler. It's a lot about portioning and huge about not sharing the families unhealthy options. Encourage yourself, love yourself, build your willpower and you can conquer anything!

I understand about the food budget...it's really horrible how expensive fruit and veggies can be.

Feeling tired - I'd recommend cutting out ALL caffeine. When I drank coffee in the past, I'd get tired mid-afternoon. I'd NEED caffeine to even get started in the day. When I quit caffeine, I had so much energy, I couldn't take a nap even if I seriously tried to!

Try going out and exercising for 10 minutes. If you can do more at that point, keep going! If not, 3 10-minute exercises a day is just as good as 1 30-minute exercise. Write down the reasons why you want to get fit (ie to avoid diabetes) and put it somewhere you can see in the morning. Schedule exercise in your day and stick to it, even if you don't want to. *hugs* I hope this helps!

I shop at a discount grocery store. Do you have any close to you? There are always frozen veggies in a pinch.

Motivation is a hard one. Sometimes I just make myself do things. I will regret not doing it but never regret doing it. I feel so much better afterwards. Good luck.

As far as trying to spread a food budget for fruits and veggies- have you thought about starting a little garden? It would not only be a cheaper/ more fulfilling way of getting your healthy foods, but it would also get you out in the sun for some vitamins!!

I know how hard it can be to have ZERO motivation to move. I have only recently lit a candle under my own butt to get moving. I would recommend trying something like a Leslie Sansone walking video- her workouts are effective, don't take much time, and are really easy for a beginner to follow through.

I'll be thinking of you, wishing you the best. I know you'll do great if you can just find that first step. You've done a hard thing already in giving up soda.
Knowing that you are one step away from being forced into medication is a good motivator.
