Cathy's Quilt Update

Monday, February 10, 2014

Cathy's quilt was finished in time to use as a raffle at a gathering of wonderful country people in a little place called Decker Chapel. I am proud to say, with the help of all my children and grandchildren that we raised $1,047 to give to Cathy. I am also proud to say that the winner of the quilt gave it back to be given to Cathy!
Now you can imagine my joy in being able to go spend part of my day today giving her the good news.
Cathy is my niece and has terminal cancer. The background on my page is a picture of the quilt which she was working on before she bacame too sick to finish and I decided to take it and try to finish it for her.
There is always good with the bad, we just sometimes have to look hard to find it. However when I looked out at the sea of faces of the people who were willing to help a stranger, I realized once again, in spite of what the news tells us, that our world is full of really wonderful, generous people!
May God bless all you caring people.

What a blessing we all received just knowing how compassionate people still are. God Bless you, Cathy and the rest of Cathy's family.

So glad to read that the quilt became a double blessing: first raising the money and then re-gifting to your niece.
Praying your niece experiences the peace and comfort of Christ as she lives with her terminal diagnosis.

Great that you were able to raise the money and gracious that the person gave back the quilt! I hope your niece is doing well in spite of her diagnosis and is not suffering in too much pain.

Cathy's Quilt

Monday, February 03, 2014

Sometimes the life we plan gets side-tracked by the life we are sent. It has been several days since I wrote a blog, although I did plan to write one every day which is a goal on one of my teams.
I am trying to finish a quilt for a sweet niece who started it when she was diagnosed with cancer. She is now unable to work on it and I just couldn't stand for it not to get finished. There are no more medicines to try for her so now it is just a matter of time.
The one thing I try to remember is that 20 minutes of walking keeps my mind and body able to function so I dedicate three (20 minute) times in my day to take care of me.
Now, what made the tears flow today was to learn that I am the "Shining Star" of the day and all you wonderful people are lifting me up today in ways that you can't imagine.
Thank you all for your friendship.

All that love going into finishing that quilt is going to mean a lot to Cathy, when it's finished and she's warped up in it, she'll be covered in love.

Hugs,
Shirl

Day # 5

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

When I thought about what I would write today it seemed that waking up to a pipe spewing water under the sink was going to make me get over my "up" attitude which has been here since starting this blog idea.
However when I went to my Sparkpage and clicked on the blogs there, it is both awesome and a little eerie to see what is there. I had never looked back before today. I can't imagine what my life would be like now with the addition of the 32 pounds that I have lost, the addition of meds for high cholesterol that the Doctor wanted me to take, or the continuing problems I was having with my knees. Not to mention not being able to walk up stairs without being out of breath and holding on to the cart in the store like it was a crutch. Wow how far I've come!
Thank heavens for this website and all you wonderful fellow travelers on the road to better health. I do appreciate you all! Have a happy, healthy day.

What a wonderful surprise I got this morning when logging in my breakfast. There was the addition of a "recent" food catagory which made the logging very easy!
Wishing everyone a wonderful day, stay safe and "keep sparking"!
