Gluten, dairy free and delicious

I made spaghetti squash in the oven, and my own really basic pesto sauce (I just blended fresh basil with olive oil) for dinner tonight. I topped it with grape tomatoes that I halved. I thought it was delicious and I was so excited that I unwittingly made a gluten and dairy free meal!

As of right now I've logged 258 fitness minutes in 2014! The best part is that it is not even the middle of January yet! I am so pumped! I've never achieved the 500 Monthly Fitness Minutes award here yet... I really would love to do so this month! How is that for motivation??

It has taken me 1 year and 7 months to have this much motivation and to plan to keep it up. I am going to make 2014 my year! I'm pumped. I can do this and so can all of you!!!

The Irony of a Calorie Pie Chart

First I want to say... WOWZA! and WAHOO!

Yesterday I was within my calorie range and my nutrition report pie chart looked really close to how it is supposed to look every day!

You can't really see becuase this photo uploaded so small but here it is:

Your Values---------Recommended Values
Carbs: 46.7%-------Carbs: 50%
Fats: 31.2%----------Fats: 30%
Proteins: 22.1%----Proteins: 20%

Usually I am high on carbs, normal on fats and way low on protiens... so this is a step in the right direction. I really attribute this amazingness on the fact that I've been cooking meals for real, instead of frozen or takeout!

Second, I want to say I went to save the chart as a photo and called it 'Calorie Pie Chart' and laughed at the irony of that... calories... pie.... get it?

Winded @ Work

I was out sick with the flu for an entire week. Today was my first day back. I work on a small college campus, where it takes no more than seven minutes to walk from the north side to the south. I work on the south side of campus, the dining hall is on the north side.

Today I did not pack a lunch so I went with a co-worker to eat there. I am proud to report that for this buffet style option, I managed to make my plate look like it should... carbs on less than half the plate, a salad on just over a quarter of the plate, and steamed vegetables on the remaining quarter!

Walking back to my office after lunch, we were walking at a brisk walk, just like normal...and by the time I was back to my office, I was winded and light-headed. I know I'm still recovering from my illness, but dang... I wasn't expecting that. For the two weeks prior to getting sick, I was fully back on track with meal planning and exercise, including strength training. To become winded during a seven minute walk was so sad!

I plan to get back into it slowly. Some easier strength training moves and stretching tomorrow morning, then after work some Just Dance on the Wii!!

Sore muscles day 3!!

I almost ended the day without any exercise. I stopped, looked at myself and thought, 'you know you really need to do this'.

I got down on the floor and I did pushups and crunches and searched other strength training exercises listed in the SparkPeople fitness tracker. I watched an exercise demo or three and tried some new things!
