June/July Mini Goal Update

Sunday, July 20, 2014

Lots of changes going on in my life as I begin my transition out of an old job and finding a new one. I thought adding a challenge to my busy schedule would help but in the end I couldn't keep up. I ended up taking another break from SP for a bit. I make that mistake all too often - over commitment. I need to focus on the basics right now - eating clean, getting exercise and making time for myself.

However, in my absence I have been trying to achieve items on my mini goal list. Here is my progress towards my 2014 100 Mini Goal List as of 7/20/2014:

Another Mini Goal Down!

Saturday, June 21, 2014

Had to share this because this one one of the mini goals I have been really looking forward to. Earlier last month I got my veggie garden boxes built and in the ground.

I am proud to report that veggies are beginning to grow and the fruits of my labor are paying off - literally.

I plucked my first strawberries yesterday! Mini Goal #33 of Eating something grown in my garden has been achieved and hopefully will be achieved many more times from now until late fall.

Getting ready for June and the Mini Goal List

Sunday, June 01, 2014

May has come to an end and the Mini Goal List is looming a bit. Next month is busy and lots of changes are coming.

I complete #32 this month and got my first Vegetable Garden in the ground. Hope this works. I can't wait to have some fresh veggies!

I've started sending out resumes in an effort to complete #48 on my list.

Joined the Spring into Shape Challenge in an effort to get me moving in the right direction. I had a big slip and gained 15 lbs. over the last two months. Time to make a change and get rid of a bad habit of not exercising regularly. If I complete the challenge I'll have accomplished #79, 80 & 81 by making good on a promise to finish what I start and one of my final goals #99 to look and feel better than I did at the start of the year.

Here is my progress towards my 2014 100 Mini Goal List as of 5/31/2014:

Giving yourself permission to change

Monday, May 12, 2014

I've been having a bit of a rough time today.

My brain has decided to beat up on me because I have let things slide post graduation and gained weight again . Additionally I'm struggling with work - dealing with current deadlines and the thoughts and emotions associated with leaving my current position. Leaving the field I am in means leaving co-workers that are like family to me (although a seriously dis-functional family) and a position that has been my safe spot (though incredibly stressful) for many years. I'm also feeling a bit of trepidation on looking for a new position in a new field of work - new people to get used to and fear of rejection during the interview process. So my brain is working overtime amping up emotions upon which I chose to stuff my face with anything in close proximity.

When I get stressed I chose to pick up a book and read. It has a way of calming me down and refocusing my thoughts (also coincidentally stops me from eating). So I started reading Just the Rules: Tosca's Guide to Eating Right by Tosca Reno and in Chapter 15 highlighted in yellow "Give yourself permission to change" jumped off the page.

Why do I struggle to change. I succeed in my small mini goals but with every time I end up in this looping process of failure (or perceived failure) with the big changes, particularly associated with my weight. I struggle against this fear and then when I don't follow through/regress/fail, the self hate and overeating take over. Why am I so afraid to start portions of my life fresh. What the hell am I waiting for. Why can't I drop 10lbs. and keep it that way? Why do I make dessert/eating my friend? Why is the damn candy bar I ate so important to me over my health? How did I let myself get this way?

Enough.

No one else can change me but me.

To quote my favorite book Frank Herbert's Dune:

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

I need to face my fear. I am writing this to remind myself and to declare it where I won't take it back or hide it away.

I give myself permission to change.

Mini Goal List Update for April/Early May 2014

Friday, May 09, 2014

We are a little into May but I wanted to get my post for April in and Share my Progress for May so far.

I bought a Jawbone UP 24 for myself after completing my First Walking 5k of the year with a time of 60 mins (goal #13). I've set up a goal of trying to get 6000 steps in per day working up to 10,000. Right now I have been averaging between 4000 & 5000 steps a day. I also have a second 5k set for this weekend.

I've set up a private inspiration board and a public motivation board for myself on Pinterest completing goal #4. Went for a short Hike in the woods last weekend with a friend which completes goal #22 I was also able to tackle goals 54 & 60 (Saw Captain America). This post will cover goals 89 & 90.

I am currently working on goal #32 - working in my garden. My vegetable garden boxes are here and my starters are almost ready to plant. I just need to get them in the ground. Hopefully this weekend.

Getting Closer. Hope everyone has a wonderful Mother's Day. A big Thank You to all of the Mom's out there.
