Two new additions to buildings in our town. These are the
little city park. Enjoy the gift of the master!

Where does the park end and the painting begin?

This is awesome. It is nice to have the story of your town told on a mural.

Local art is such a blessing! Your photos reminded me of a couple of our community art projects down here... the most popular was the bicycles... competition of 100 artists, each given ONE bicycle wrought iron "blank" to decorate. They were placed all over town, and it was a challenge to find them all... the newspaper printed a list of locations and if you got around to them all in the year before they were auctioned off, you felt like you crossed a finish line! emoticon

I love it when towns put the murals of their history out for all to see. We have several here in Florida that do that and it is a draw. Deland and Lake Placid have lovely art on buildings in town. One in Lake Placid shows a cattle drive and if you sit a moment to take it in, they have cattle mooing.

Meeting up with friends

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

After a long day complete with chores and time spent
in the garden, I decided to do the laundry before DH
came home. I even took time to fill the water tank in
the camper so when he takes it to the State Fair on
Friday, that much has been done.
He finally arrived home and we went uptown for
a quick dinner. He had a cheeseburger and potato
salad and I had my salad with chicken. Both of
us were ready to just sit quietly when some friends
arrived and walked in for their own dinner. We
invited them to sit with us and spent over an hour
catching up. It was nice.
Now the jeans are in the dryer and I am getting
ready to close down shop and head to bed.
Thanks for stopping by and have a terrific Thursday.
HUGS!

Starting the canning process

Tuesday, August 19, 2014

I cooked up my first batch of spaghetti sauce tonight
and will let it cool in the refrigerator until tomorrow.
Then I will put it in containers to freeze. It was only a
smaller batch but I used all the tomatoes I had on hand.
Four shredded zucchini, 3 green peppers, onions and
a large eggplant and all my own veggies. All I needed
to add was the spices. It smelled and tasted great.
Now that will conclude my blog for the night as it is
pushing bedtime.
Thanks for stopping by and have a WooHoo Wednesday!

I turn green with envy when I hear of folks canning that great fresh produce they have grown. I miss those canning and freezing days, but guess I did my fair share of them when raising a family. Used to be up half the night canning then had to go to work in the morning, but never let anything go to waste.
Many young people have no idea how to do those things. Enjoy!!!

Oh, the joys

Monday, August 18, 2014

of having large garden and sharing the extras.
I picked tomatoes last night but will use those
myself. The cucumbers will be shared with our
neighbors and the zucchini has found homes
with some friends and SIL, who took half of
the 40+ I picked last night.
I shredded the larger ones for DD and froze
6 quart bags full. The smaller ones will be
given to some older ladies from church.
We had a meal in the park tonight-chislic
and crackers plus a drink. I ate watermelon
and cucumbers when I can home to round
out the meal. Just nice not to have to cook.
I spent all day working on quotes-must have
been at least 6 and most of these will be
finalized and policies issued in the next few
days. DH is happily spending his time away
from the office-little stinker LOL!
Have a better-than-ever Tuesday! HUGS!

And sauteed zucchini with red and green peppers and onions - over pasta. Delish! Even grandkids love that!

A matter or economics

Sunday, August 17, 2014

DD and I were calculating the economics of freezing
sweet corn as opposed to buying it from the store. first,
you know the producer and how the corn was raised.
That is a big plus. The farmer gives you a great deal-
just $3.00 for a dozen ears. 60 ears should yield 30 pints.
Well, our 60 ears yielded 19 quarts so each quart of
corn cost us about 78 cents, to counting the labor.
It was certainly worth our time to do it ourselves. Plus
we all had a taste and it is much sweeter than what
we buy frozen. We plans to freeze more as time permits.
I spent 75 minutes in the garden, picking tomatoes,
cucumbers and zucchini. The clouds were moving in
and blocking the sunset so it got dark sooner that I
had anticipated. But I finished what needed to be done
tonight and hopefully, we will get some rain shortly.
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are SParked
and ready to go for the new week. HUGS!

It's definitely cheaper to raise and freeze your own! And sooo much better, I agree!! It will keep you a might busy, though. No worries!! Bless your heart, you are used to and not afraid of busy!! Way to go, you!
So wonderful you are still getting sooo much from your garden. My neighbor plants a nice, urban garden ( not as big as yours, certainly, but probably bigger than you'd imagine). Unfortureately, she gets so busy with other things, plus in July she took a 5 day cruise and that was when her garden started coming in, so mostly now, it's all overgrown with butternut squash and pumpkin vines. Very few fruits, but tons of vines! Sheesh! They're taking over her garden And yard! (Lack of space for the vines to spread and lots of female blooms and no males to pollinate!) Sometimes it's sad. But she did plant corn, and is getting some full sized, filled out ears!! I guess it likes where it is this year b/c last year didn't do anything.
Wishing you a great Monday!! Hope you are getting the rain you need! Stay safe!! (((HUGS)))
