A bit of reflection

Tuesday, February 09, 2010

Just a little note to tell my dad that I remember him. He passed away 24 years ago today in my home. What a tough time but life goes on but a day doesn't go by that I don't miss him.

Have reminded my sisters as they were living elsewhere at the time and the 'date' isn't something that sticks with them. We all miss him (mom too) so anyway, this is just my little way of 'remembering' him today.

For those of you lucky enough to still have your parent(s), give them an extra hug today as once they're gone, life is never the same.

The other thing is both mom and dad had February birthdays. Mom on Valentine's Day and dad on 2/24. February is a month of many birthdays in general but theirs specifically. Always hard to find mom a Valentine/Birthday card and usually she'd end up with the same card since they were hard to come by. LOL

I lost my Mom when she was only 59 and my Dad a few years ago, so I always remember the day they passed on. Norm still has his Mother who is turning 93 next month. I remind him often how lucky he is.

You take care and I wish I was close enough to give you a hug!

Take special care of yourself today. My parents are both gone too. My mom was the most recent and passed away May 24 of last year. I understand.

Just another Monday

Monday, February 08, 2010

You know there was a time I dreaded Monday. Now, since this is the day I visit with Ava each week, I'm growing to love them. She is growing so quickly and I enjoy seeing the changes each and every week. She is now 7 weeks old. So I try to snap a few pictures while I'm there to see what I can get. Never is my timing very good but I keep trying. Figure if I take a bunch I might get lucky. Today she was very talkative. Starting to coo and make noises and smile a lot. She is getting pretty round in the face so breast feeding must do her well. LOL

So here is an update. She definitely has blue eyes!

Cold but good to be out!

Saturday, February 06, 2010

This morning our local walking group met for a brunch and our annual meeting. We had it at a local restaurant known for good food and had arranged a private room. 20 people showed up which was great considering it is a meeting as well. The meeting was low key and we had a speaker from the local area pushing to raise $$ for a trail that is going thru the state. Eventually you'll be able to go from Lake Michigan to I believe Lake Erie. A walking trail across the state and then also venturing North a good distance. Anyway, was good information.

After, 12 of us went for a walk with the speaker whose working on getting this trail thru so I got to experience some of it that I'd not been on before. Parts, sadly, I wouldn't necessarily venture out on my own but in this group, it was great. Even with the cold. So we were off and on the return, 6 decided not to continue and returned to proceed on their day and the rest of us took another portion of it. Sunshine and blowing cold but it was invigorating in many ways. We did 5 miles and enjoyed the time and the folks I walked with.

Tomorrow is walking class, indoors. This is fine but a bit boring going in circles but will work on racewalk technique and just keep moving. Need to make up for yesterday's down day which was nice and needed. Should have a couple of days of good steps. Feels good indeed.

Hope you all have a great weekend and if you partake in the super bowl festivities, ENJOY!!!

Great walk!! There are trails here in a county park...DH walks them all the time. It is just very hard to do for me. I have walked with him a time or two. There is also a 3/4 mile walk in our city park. It isn't hard to do at all. But it is used very heavily. I wish there were more 5K walks here. Glad you enjoyed your day!!!
BZYBOYSMOM 2/6/2010 9:19PM

    Awesome and fun!!
PJSTIME 2/6/2010 9:11PM

We have some trails close to our home around the local lake. Several miles of trails. I really enjoy walking on them when possible. A walking group sounds like a great idea. How did you find it? I hope you have a great Sunday. PJ
DIFROMWYOMING 2/6/2010 8:36PM

Sounds like a great group and you did a good thing, getting out there and walking your 5 miles. Someday I'll get there. I WILL be watching the superbowl tomorrow and trying to take part of the day off. Hope you have a good one!

Looking for some honest feedback!!!

Wednesday, February 03, 2010

Okay my friends, I'm putting myself out here and would like some honest opinions. I am 51 years of age. Not a spring chicken and well, I have baby fine hair. I struggle with what to do with it but I've got an issue with it just straight and it is bone straight.

Tonight I went to see my DIL whose a cosmotologist on the side and works a couple of evenings at a salon. Time for a cut and color. I am always asking for suggestions as to what can I do with this that would require little and well, here is what she came up with and I was told I should throw the curling iron away. OMG! That would be like throwing my security blanket away. LOL

So here it is. The new do I'd like some feedback on. The trick, of course, would be doing this to myself come tomorrow a.m. I know the folks at work would give me their opinions as well. LOL

So, am I too old for something this wild?

Looks great, and besides if it makes you feel younger, who cares what anyone else thinks! (Personnally I think it makes you look younger, but what do I know...)
WEKIMER 2/7/2010 9:54AM

Weezie, i love the new haircut and style! I need to do something with mine too. I hate it. its like yours baby fine and thinning. i like it long but I just can't pull it off anymore. thanks for showing me that I don't have to buy a wig yet. LOL, kim

thanks for always stopping by my blogs and giving me support. So you're another early bird, (not by choice but by obligation)? i am so not a morning person and i hate going to bed at 7 pm. I used to always stay up till midnight, and then I worked 3rd shift for 4 years. so I was up all night anyway. I keep telling my self that getting up at 3 a.m. is just a shorter version of the night shift. LOL, kim

I think it looks TERRIFIC on you! emoticon
MARY1313 2/6/2010 7:00PM

That is awesome! I would hide my curling iron away though because some days I just wake up with a cowlick and my hair is so straight, it looks like it's ironed! LOL

You are NOT to old for that hair do, it looks marvelous!

DEIRDREJ1TX 2/6/2010 6:39PM

I like it! Mine's so fine I'd have to load it down with product to get it to do this, and even then it would flop. I think it looks great on you.
MOMBUCK3 2/6/2010 5:07PM

I like a it and think it looks great on you! Enjoy the new do!

I like it! I am older too (51 also...I knew I liked you!) and I have very thin hair. I threw my curling iron a couple years ago and I really LOVE it! I don't think you'll be sorry. Give it some time and see what you think. You look stylin'!

A downer indeed

Tuesday, February 02, 2010

Well, here it is February 2nd already. I feel great today and excited about working this month on the treadmill at a 10% incline to see how it goes in preparation for Robie in April. I am eating well and just feel like a million bucks. I'm 51.

Just got an email from a friend I went to high school with. I think she IS the only one that I've kept in contact with all these years. My son Lee and her son NP grew up together though Lee was a year older I believe. They were inseparable for a lot of years and enjoyed playing basketball in high school together and actually live together today. Anyway, my friend who is Karen, has had diabetes since we were in high school, maybe middle school. She has suffered with all sorts of health issues and they've continued to worsen. Anyway, her email just informed me that she has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. This just breaks my heart. Our birthdays are a week apart and the differences in our health is huge. I truly feel for her. She is too young for all these issues she is experiencing with her eye sight and fatigue and joint stiffness and her sugar issues. Just doesn't seem fair. I almost feel guilty for being healthy and more fit than I think I've ever been in my life.

Anyway, just a bit of a downer tonight. I was going to try and work out more but it effects my ability to sleep. SO I think I'll vaccuum instead and call it good.

Thanks for letting me share.

Don't feel guilty. We all have our special burdens to carry and you have worked hard to be healthy.

Hugs to you and your friend.

Sometimes life just plain stinks. DH and I look around and see the infirmities people are struggling with and feel guilt and gratitude at the same time and take nothing for granted. Your friend has a long tough road ahead and you can be there for her. That will mean so much to each of you. emoticon
REGATTAGIRL 2/3/2010 12:45PM

I am so very sorry for you and for Karen, your friend. M.S. is such a hard disease to live with.
Just a thought for you to ponder. .maybe you have been given to the gift of wonderful health right now so you are strong enough to "carry" her! If you were sickly and down, and unhealthy then neither one of you would have strength enough. So even though you may feel guilty about the unfairness of it, look for opportunities to uphold her and share anything you think that might uplift her, even for tiny bits of time. You may never know how much you have inpacted your friend! God bless you and I will pray for Karen.
SHARONSPARKLE 2/3/2010 11:57AM

I am so sorry to read of your friends deteriorating health. Some times life just isn't fair. But you, my friend, have worked hard to get where you are so enjoy your new found health for many years!

Sorry to hear about your friend. A daughter of one of my friends was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) two years ago...she was all of 16. It was very hard on her, but she seems to be handling life with medication, and is now in college. Last year we organized a group at work and walked for MS in Washington, DC. In fact, we are organizing again, and are trying to think of ways to increase the number of team members and have a few little mini events to get people motivated for the walk. My belief is to hang in there....while there is life....there is hope. I am a ten-year survivor of breast cancer.
