Weight loss more elusive than Spring!

I am doing a pretty good job of maintaining the same pound. I lose 3/4 one week, gain it back the next. Pretty much at the same place on the scale that I was in February. It is not a mystery. I'm eating too much too often. Temps have only been in high 20s and low 30s the past few days, so being outside not really comfortable. Have been grabbing food out of frustration and boredom. So back to journaling (I have been lax) and measuring tools. When Spring finally does arrive I don't want to freak out when the jackets and sweaters come off!

    There is something about cold weather and eating. Your appetite increases, and it's too cold to burn it off. You will be fine when the weather is better.

    Honest post, and you remind me in this that we are in this for the long haul. It takes a lot to keep me going -- journaling, tracking, spiritual path and community, and opening up to others and new ways of being.
I like that you said it wasn't much of a mystery --- too much too often. We have to tweak, fine tune, reflect again, and carry on. This has been hard for me to know over the years as I once traveled only the road to instant gratification.
You are on the Right Road!

April goals

The lingering winter has been hard on my weight loss effort. My little record book shows no forward progress in March, just treading water so to speak. The view out the window is a little better today. Still piles of snow, but more and more brown grass showing each day. Also taking over the care of an adult dog, can notice the increase in my daily stepping totals already. The dog needs to practice portion control as do I, so that will be a major goal for April along with remembering to drink my water. (She has no problem with that). Need to get those numbers in the record book going the right direction!

    March was hard for us. The weather didn't help. We haven't been able to go outside and walk. I think walking and water aerobics are the best exercise.

    March was a hard month all the way around. Busy month at work so everything else suffered. April is the begining of a new fiscal year and the begining of a new month. I am using today as the first day of looking ofrward. Setting my goals to get moving forward and stop treading water.

January progress-February goals

At weigh-in yesterday was down another 1.25 pounds, making a total of 3.25 for the month of January. Unfortunately this was another time around for these pounds as I had put them on over the holiday period. Revved up to continue progress in February so that I arrive at my new goal of 149.something by month's end. My Fitbit exercise goal for the month was to walk 150 miles and I achieved that on the 27th.

For February I am resolved to continue weekly attendance at my small weight loss group, add 140 miles to my stepping total and continue daily food tracking. This last component seems to be necessary. If I don't do it, I don't lose. And, of course, continue to try and not let the severity of this northern Michigan winter get me down.

I have to "mall walk" a lot in Wyoming. Sometimes I even just wlk up and down the stairs at my house. Hang in there, your determination will get you to your goal! emoticon

    I don't know if you will hit your number by the end of February, but if you keep doing the things you know to do, you will certainly be less than you are now. It seems so silly that writing down what you eat helps, but it sure does.

Squeaky Turtle

As I continue this weight loss journey I've added another phrase to my vocabulary: Squeaky Turtle. I was awarded this designation at my weigh in yesterday, possibly because it was Christmas. Turtling refers to not gaining or losing, the squeaky part means that scale was really wavering toward the gain end. Anyway, I'm taking it and running, hopefully toward a loss next Thursday. My year-end goal is still attainable.

Losing pays

I blogged about my October weight loss because 3# for me is huge at this point in my life. It was enough to win me a small award in my local weight loss group. So far in November the numbers have slowed, but at the end of 3 weigh ins my net loss is 1.25, (we will not meet on Thanksgiving) which made me eligible for another small award. I have not followed through with the "reward aspect" of reaching goals in the past, but find it a motivator this time around. Hoping to lose another pound by Dec. 5 weigh-in.
