Autumn Project.....maybe

Tuesday, September 30, 2014

Well we're good to go for FREE insulation, though not for the rafters- apparently they don't do that anymore. Something to do with some lofts "sweating" through lack of ventilation. But once we've got the loft cleared and they've been on 24th October and laid the insulation, it makes sense to me to do the rafters (or get them done- big job for DH and me) while it's clear up there.
DH was talking of moving the boiler to the side too and make room for a sky-lite..........should we decide to go that route.
We'll see, still mulling it over

So many projects, so many decisions, such fun having them completed. Mulling over is a BIG part of the project process. Since I've followed your blogs on & off since early 2011 I am very confident you and John will do it and emoticon . Have you checked out any murals for your exercise room? I'm looking through them now in search of one for the bird room. I'm mulling that one over.

I somehow got unsubscribed from your blogs, Caz, so didn't see your last couple of posts.
Sounds like you have a good project going. Hope you manage to get it finished before the weather turns.
Will be checking in to see what you and dh have decided.
And thank you for your support on my blogs too. emoticon
Love ya!

  Hi Caz........
Lots of decisions to make and work to do, but the two of you will make the best of it and all will turn out well. I love a project that involves BOTH my DH and I (most of the time). emoticon

I understand about the moisture and ventalation; but there has to be a way. Certainly worth researching for the space. People would not be able to finish their attics and put rooms in otherwise. But, may be pricey to do it right. Good luck! emoticon

Well ask about, as we were told no cos of needing air and such in there, also here we have to have side vents on the house in attic area for venting. In our country house we added a huge amount on the floor area as they said no no no to the sides as it doesn't let it sweat and will cause mould. Hubby added more than the recommended to the floor area we had like R 52 or something in the ceiling when we were done and it sure helped, but we didn't do the rafters.

    Awesome!
We are having fun finding out about little benefits here and there as my dear man turned 65 this summer.
Can you lay plywood down atop the new insulation so you can at least have some long term storage space?
We did that at our old house.

So pleased it went well. Sad it's not quite perfect - but what is in this world? The extra rooms would've been great but the saving on your heating bills is great too. All SO worth it.
As you say - yet another dimension to the joy of your move to that area.

Rushing my sparking because.................

British Gas is coming this morning to see if we're eligible for FREE LOFT INSULATION. yes FREE!!! emoticon
We're hoping they'll be prepared to pack the rafters rather than lay floor insulation up there then we can make rooms up there!! We're prepared to make up the difference if it costs more.
Fingers crossed please guys!

Have a great week everyone emoticon

I was eligible for free energy conservation services where they come in and weatherize the apartment. They sealed up cracks, did a door test, changed light bulbs, even in the hallways. They were going to do the attic and the whole house with foan insulation for my landlord for free and he refused it. Can you imagine? They were going to have to take off a piece of siding and he got all upset and thought they were going to destroy the house. He is 92. He started yelling at them and told them to leave. Wishing you luck.

OH cool!!! our elec. does a lot of free stuff but not insulation. We do get pay backs for certain amt spent. Here they only put on floor never in lofts so we don't use our attic but there isn't any real usuable space in this one.

Fingers xed!

Good news!on DH

Friday, September 26, 2014

DH had a good report on his diabetic check up, good cholesterol and good glucose levels all other indications are he's doing fine but...........he has put on weight since the last annual check so we're going to remedy that.
A quiet weekend, hoping for some sun so I get in the garden, although it doesn't look too bad out there.

oh and he's making more progress on his frozen shoulder, he can raise his arm more than 90 degrees laterally now and can put his hand about his head!!

  Hi Caz........
So glad to hear of Pete's good Dr. report. Could part of his weight gain be a result of massive muscle gain due to all of his biking?????? emoticon
I am sure that you can help him to lose what he needs to.
Take care and have a great weekend........
