Feed your body the best possible fuel.

Wednesday, March 06, 2013

I contemplated for a long time about blogging on this & I decided that I should. If I can help one person learn from my mistake, it will have been worth it.

I had been eating very healthy foods for several months (lots of fruits & veggies, lean proteins, etc.). Then one day about a month ago I was having a very rough day at work & there was junk food everywhere from an office party. I had a weak moment & went hog wild. It wasn't pretty & I was having a pity party about the scale not moving.

NOT a good idea at all. My body totally revolted. I felt horrible!!! I was tired, lethargic, my muscles felt weak, I felt bloated & uncomfortable. My brain was fuzzy & I couldn't concentrate. I just wanted to go to sleep. I did not make it to the gym that night. It actually took a couple of days for all the junk to get out of my system & for me to start feeling "normal" again (anyone who knows me knows I'm not really normal). emoticon

Anyway, my lessons learned: If I ate that junk for only one day & felt so horrible, imagine what I was doing to my body by eating it every day before I started my healthy eating plan. No wonder I felt horrible all the time. I also realized that the more junk I ate that day, the more I wanted AND I was still not satisfied! I was still hungry!!!

Back on my healthy eating plan, with all the fruits & veggies & healthy lean proteins, I am satisfied & my body is happy & I have plenty of energy to make it through my long days & still make it to the gym most evenings after work.

So, eat this:

and not this:

To feel like this:

Blessings to you!! emoticon emoticon

Thanks for this post. It reminded me of how medical professionals tell you it takes about three days to get anesthesia out of your system after surgery - sounds the same for the junk food, which is sort of a form of toxic anesthesia. I know I have had similar results as you describe when I am not eating the right foods to fuel my body.

They say you are what you eat, meaning you eat heavy junk foods, you get lazy. You eat energy foods, veggies & proteins, you feel energetic & strong. Good blog!

Honestly, the healthy selection is so much prettier and appealing than the starchy sweets. The colors cannot be compared! I want to be that color on the inside and on the outside look like the energy graphic. I feel everything you described and am still trying to detox. God love you, Nilla! You are a genius!

Oh I LOVE the graphics today, and can sympathize with your story of sickening indulgence, too. I had been off sweets for Lent and on Sunday past, (not considered a day in Lent and not counted in the 40 Days), ) I too indulged- just before bedtime- on an over-large piece of apple crisp with too much frozen vanilla yogurt! I woke up on Monday morning so nauseated and fuzzy-headed there was no mistaking what sugar did to me! Amen, sister! Amen!

But if it did, we'd all be at goal, right? emoticon

How about this one for a chuckle?

Don't we all wish that? One thing I've realized is that once you get into a regular exercise routine, you just crave it, like you crave water when you're thirsty. Give it a try & I think you'll learn to love exercise, too.

In fact:

Today, & every day, let's be extraordinary!!

Passion . . .

Monday, March 04, 2013

I have noticed that when I'm with my buddies at the gym & the music is great, I tend to work out a little harder. I have also noticed that when the gym is slow & there are very few people there, I don't work out as hard. Do I have passion for my journey? Of course I do. Sometimes, I'm just plain tired after working all day. But I need to keep an eye on this so that I don't get lazy in the gym.

Today, keep plugging along & be mindful of your choices when no one is looking. Especially with regards to food. emoticon Here are some posters to think about as you start your day.

Blessings to you!! emoticon emoticon

Think about why you started.

Sunday, March 03, 2013

Don't just think about it once in awhile, think about it every day. It will help keep you on track & motivated to do what you need to do to reach your goals.

Visualize yourself reaching your goal. What will you be wearing? How do you think you'll feel? How do you think your family & friends will feel about your success? Be excited now about the sense of accomplishment & pride you will feel once those goals are reached.

If you're not the best, pretend you are:

You CAN do this. WE can do this. It is not impossible!!

Look at all of the people on SparkPeople who have already done it!!! There's a lot of motivation in looking at those weight loss SparkPages. I look at one or more of them every day.

emoticon Keep climbing. emoticon We'll get there.

Blessings to you!! emoticon emoticon

What are you learning about yourself?

Saturday, March 02, 2013

I think the reason some of us struggle on our weight loss journey is because we have some things to learn about ourselves along the way. One of my SparkFriends (111Butterfly111) touched on this in one of her recent blogs. www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo
urnal_individual.asp?blog_id=5263704

Thank you 111Butterfly111. I've been mulling over what you said for many days now. emoticon

I feel that until we learn those lessons about ourselves, we may get stuck for a time or progress may be about as slow as a emoticon .

For me, the scale hasn't moved in close to 3 months. What makes this time different the the other countless times I've tried to lose weight? I DIDN'T GIVE UP THIS TIME!! emoticon Thank you SparkFriends & thank you SparkPeople!!!!! I know it's because of YOU!

I have continued to keep making healthy food choices & I've have continued to exercise. I hear over & over in SparkPeople articles & on your blogs (thank you SparkFriends) that the changes are continuing to happen on the inside, even if I can't see the progress on the outside -- YET! emoticon

As one of my carpool buddies is fond of saying, "Suck it up, Buttercup!!" ~ Sheri A. ~

I told my hubby that after having cancer, I was going to get this weight off one way or another. I WILL NOT let it beat me. With God's help the cancer did not win & with God's help I will also win this battle of the bulge. I am DETERMINED!!!

Positive mental attitude is the key.

So, lets roll up our sleeves & get to work!! What can you learn about yourself today?

Blessings to you!! emoticon emoticon
