How to break your weight loss plateau.

Saturday, October 06, 2012

I've been on a plateau since September 23. Ugh!! But, I have been sick during that time & had to go off my allergy meds for a week to be retested to see how my allergies are doing. (They are much, much better, by the way -- allergy shots do work).

Anyway, I know that my body has been fighting, so I really can't fault it for hanging out at the same weight for awhile. But it is frustrating, to say the least.

So, I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing -- stay within my calorie range, do strength training 3 times a week & cardio 3 times a week -- until this annoying plateau breaks.

Once I hit the 15 lb. mark, I will post some before & after pics & then I can FINALLY download some new books to my Kindle. No new books until I hit 15 lbs. lost!!!

Blessings to you!! emoticon emoticon

I'm going to put that Thomas Edison quote where I can see it often.

I hit about four plateaus during the six months that I lost 30 pounds. I just stuck to my guns eating the correct foods and bumped up activity a little bit. But I've been on a "plateau" for several months now so I need to try something different too!

One suggestion . . . try a different form of exercise. Our bodies get used to doing the same stuff all the time. That may be all you need to shake your body off the plateau.

Add a little "Umph" to your workout.

Friday, October 05, 2012

I'm a people watcher. One of the places I like to watch people is at the gym. I go to an all ladies gym & you can tell who is really serious about their workout & who isn't. I think for some of them, it's just a little social club gathering, which is fine, but if you're not working hard enough to get your heart rate up, then you may as well just meet in the parking lot for free.

If I'm gonna pay all that money for a gym membership, I'm gonna be red-faced & sweatin' when I get done!!

So today, add a little "umph" to your workout.

Blessings to you!! emoticon emoticon

Yep, and you can tell which ones are just posing for the opposite sex and just there to get a date. Hair in perfect place, make-up on, no sweat anywhere. Shoot, they don't even glisten! That's okay, I sweat enough for EVERYONE! emoticon

Blessings!

Thank you for making me smile! My daughter bought me a t-shirt (after my double mastectomy) that says "Yes they're fake - the real ones tried to kill me!" and I wear it with pride.

Thank you so much for your positivity - you are an inspiration to us all!

Save the tatas! ;-)

Wednesday, October 03, 2012

As you can see by my SparkPage, I am a breast cancer survivor. I would be remiss if I didn't post a blog reminder that:

Ladies, please go get "the girls" checked out. Promise me that if you haven't had a mammogram in the last year that you will go THIS MONTH. As an incentive, most places give free gifts if you have your mammogram in October. I got a nice lanyard for my work ID badge & a nice water bottle to take to the gym last year. And, as things turned out, that mammogram changed my life forever. Mammograms are not fun & they are a bit uncomfortable, but early detection is key!! Trust me, I know from experience. A few minutes of discomfort is so much better than the alternative.

Guys, you're not immune. If you have something wacky going on in that area, don't be macho & think it'll just go away on its own -- go have it checked out ASAP!! My poor brother has a higher risk of breast cancer because I've had it.

Sooooo, just so we're clear:

so that you can:

Blessings to you!!! emoticon emoticon

I loved your Blog! Thanks for sharing. I remember
so well in getting my Mammo in October 2010. I
had no clue that I might have BC! Later in Oct.
I had to go back and get an ultrasound. Then,
a biopsy after that. Sure enough, I had a small
tumor deep in one breast. I could not feel it.
In early November, I had bilateral mastectomies.
In November, I will be a two year emoticon emoticon survivor!

NILLAPEPSI, I had my first one last month and I was very proud of myself. I had been dragging my feet on this for years. I decided when I joined spark that I would take care of all aspects of my life. I had a mammo, pap, UI test, and weigh in with my doctor once a week. It is time to be the one to take care of me and nobody has to take care of me but me. Thanks for the reminder, it took hearing I should get one over and over and over to get into my think head.

I go every year on my birthday, isn't that a great present? Go get mashed! emoticon
My maternal grandmother had breast cancer, so did my mother, and I had a scare two years ago. I don't mess around with anything in the "tata" area! emoticon

Loved your blog. Is is so very important to have a mammo. Thanks for the reminder.

I had mine done September 24th and I'm OK for another year. I've had a breast biopsy, been on the 6 month plan (mammo twice a year) and had to undergo more than the usual squeezes by the machine. All well worth the words "you are good to go, everything is ok". My grandmother had both of her breasts removed so I know how important it is.

So glad that you are a survivor!! emoticon emoticon

One of our local hospitals is having a Mammothon. They are giving a free Vera Bradley gift. I've never had a mamogram (at 44 I am overdue) but I think I'm going to do it this month.
Thanks for the reminder.

Ever have a bad day?

Tuesday, October 02, 2012

My husband jokes that I get up "in the middle of the night" to get ready for work. It's not actually the middle of the night, but it is very early in the morning (3:45 a.m.). I have a long commute to work and even though I have been working in the same office complex for 25 years & getting up very early in the morning, I am STILL not a morning person. It's really hard to be this chipper this early in the morning when I'd love to sleep for another couple of hours.

After a long day at work, the LAST thing I want to do is go to the gym, but I really can't get up any earlier, so we work with what we have, right? But, I go to the gym most every evening on my way home from work. It's not only good for my health, but it keeps me from taking out my frustrations of the day on DH when I get home.

The biggest plus is that I feel AMAZINGLY wonderful by the time I get home. I hold onto that feeling every day so that I make sure I go to the gym before I come home.

So today, gym bag packed -- check; ice water -- check; gym shoes -- check. I'm ready for Zumba class this evening!!

Have a Terrific Tuesday!! Blessings to you!! emoticon

Augh! 0530 is early for me, but you're right letting Zumba destress you. Great planning on your part.
Have a great day (I'm getting started now--you've been up for hours!) emoticon

I would say that you're really motivated to be able to get up that early and then on your way home you still stop at the gym and exercise. Good for you! emoticon
