First day of 50

Today kick started my monthly goal of running 50 miles. No elliptical or bike allowed! I'm talking about feeling the gritty pavement underneath my feet. This morning my alarm went off at 6:30, I still couldn't believe what kind of shenanigans I had gotten myself into. But the fact that dragging myself out of bed to workout was classified as a shenanigan motivated me more. But first I thought I'd wait a few minutes for the sun to actually rise.

An hour later I was out of bed, dressed, and laced up ready to go for a run. I hooked my dog, and out the door we went. The cool morning air on my face, and the cadence of each step hypnotized me. My mind was free, and my dog was enjoying the wind whipping through his whiskers.

The unfortunate thing was about 15 minutes into the run, by sweet carefree pup was dragging quite a bit. I did foresee this happening; he's a little guy with little legs. But nothing would kill my running buzz. My left arm was fully stretched behind me with no slack on the leash attached to my slow galloping cutie. I cheered encouragement and he looked at me with those big brown eyes and tongue hanging out like he was smiling. His tail bounced side to side with every step, and even though he was struggling to keep up with me I knew he was enjoying it just as much as me.

We ran for 40 minutes, and over 3 miles. We had to stop a few times so he could smell some bushes and take care of business. But once we got back home and drank some water, he curled up next to me while I stretched. It was the perfect way to begin my challenge

    Very cool! I take my little chihuahua out on a regular basis too, except I don't run...I walk, but good for you! You go girl!!!

One of my friends recently posted a picture of me from a couple years ago and I couldn't believe how full my face was. My cheeks were enormous and my chin, oh boy, that chin. I've been vegan for a full month now, and I feel more alert and in tune with my body. I have no intentions of moving away from my plant-based lifestyle. But now it's time to get back into the swing of working out.

I've consistently worked out for several years but never taken to running. At the gym I usually hop on the elliptical or occupy the spin room. But now, I see the small changes of being vegan for this short time, and I want to get my mind wrapped around the idea of going running. Just slap on those tights and running shoes and scurry down the road.

To help motivate myself and keep my mind interested, my friend and I have set the goal of running 50 miles in the month of February. I will admit I stole this goal from someone else, but it's one that I think will work for me as well. Wish my luck, because tomorrow marks a new day of being a runner. Hopefully this will help me reach my weight loss goal in July.

Weight loss is a marathon so just go one mile at a time; the moment you look up at the finish line, that's when you trip and fall.
