A full Saturday

Today's activity included a gym session with the personal trainer: y'all remember the one I bought six sessions with to celebrate my birthday last November. This was the next to last session... the final one will come on April 14th.

This one was kind of fun, actually. It was mostly exercises with the ball, the Suisse Ball or Exercise ball we know and love. emoticon emoticon She had me do planks on the ball, squats a couple of different ways with the ball, lunges with the ball and a twist, reverse crunches, crunches, and a "ball toss" that kind of combined things. I made the mistake of thinking I could still do 10 pound bicep curls after a month's layoff... HAH! Had to reduce the reps. Sigh.

This afternoon my daughter in law came over for our weekly check in, and then, since the weather was soooo nice, I took son's car over to their place to leave it for the next few days. I walked the 4.38 miles home in the sunshine.

The rest of the day's plan? Early to bed... and remember what to do about the clock tonight! emoticon Because tomorrow is Sunday... and that means long walk day. Target: 8 miles. And the goal is to get it done early, since son comes home tomorrow and I don't want to be unreachable when he does.

Hey, got the "Dear Mom" postcard from DS yesterday. Of course, it was pre-printed and he signed it.

Told us:

1. He'd arrived safely (already knew that, thankfully!)
2. He'd receive his permanent unit tomorrow, Monday.
3. We'd eventually receive his APO address.
4. Emergency contact information (had that already, too.)
5. We'd get a graduation packet once that was closer.

So, that's that. Don't expect to be hearing from him for several weeks, but we'll take what we can get!

HUGS and have a wonderful walk, and visit with your DS.

8 miles????!!!! I have a problem reaching 2!!!!! Did you feel your sessions with the personal trainer were helpful and worth the expense?

    Sounds like a fantastic day! Love the ball personally, I do my crunches on it, and find it more comfortable to sit on then a chair.
Hope your weather is awesome for your long walk tomorrow!
No walking here, its turning to ice and sludge and I don't have rubber boots lol. Its amazing how much it is melting here.

Rest day

Yesterday after work I hopped on the treadmill for an hour... 4 miles being my target. I went a few minutes over, to an old episode of the Jack Lord version of Hawaii Five-O, and got in 4.25 miles.

Today is a planned rest day. I took my break walks at work, as is my usual "stress management plan", but I could tell it was time for a rest day. I don't even track those break walks on the Spark tracker any more... but one day I might again.

I ordered myself some new walking shoes. I can't remember if I mentioned here that I signed up for the ten miler the end of this month, but I did. Build that mileage. I'm going to be wearing those shoes out. That's what they are for, right?

Looking forward to the weekend. Saturday I meet with the trainer... I've already e-mailed her warning her I haven't done Strength training homework, while building walking miles. She e-mailed me back tips for what kind of exercises to do before/after the walking to help.

Sunday afternoon late... son will be arriving back in town... but I won't horn in on the kids' reunion. Daughter in law will pick him up at the airport, and I will see him later in the week.

Life is good. Spark on. emoticon

    Wow, can't wait until I am doing 15 min miles. The treadmill is still a good workout for me and my HR is going up to MAX. Not sure why. I am doing good to do 3.5 mph with hill intervals at 5.5 incline! I'm sure I'll get faster when more fat comes off. But wow, my hat is off to ya!

    I totally agree with you: them shoes are made for walking, lol...

I don't have access to the old version of 5-0, but the new one is a don't miss now. A bit hokey at times, but what the hey, it's a good action show with some nice eye candy, and the scenery can't be beat, to my mind.

    Good for you knowing when to rest! Walk breaks are fine throughout the day, as good as anything else!
Great idea to get new shoes so you can have them broken in before your race. You plan everything so well! Probably why you are an ace computer programmer!

Walking... and walking...

Some of you have been around long enough to remember that one of my training tricks to keep myself at it is "walking as transportation". The unseasonably warm weather that was forecast for yesterday put me in a mind to do just that.

In the morning, being up and at 'em early... I hike 2.55 miles to a bus stop. Then after work, I walked home. Observation in the morning: "It's lighter than it was the last time I did this..." Well, duh! The last time I did this was last April... after the daylight savings Spring forward. It WAS darker in the morning.

I left work promptly, exiting the building at 4:34 after a stop at "the necessary" (Asimov fans, anyone?).

Here's where I start:

It took 99 minutes to get home, and I snapped a few more along the way. Of significance - the uphill of the dam face, when I know I'm getting closer.

Once you climb that face, you are rewarded with this view:

As you might detect from the angle of light, I was racing sunset.

Anyway, the first walk home in this mileage building program is usually the quick one - when I'm staying totally in the environment, not wool-gathering, listening to tunes, or reading while walking (that one really slows me down, which *can* at times be a good thing).

Anyway, it was a great day, and of course, I slept well.

    I ran into a friend this morning who walks to and from work--about the same distance you're doing, I'd say. I'm going to think about doing this...maybe the bus one way, and walk home. I like that idea. I used to do that, and gave it up sometime. I trace my slow weight gain 20 years to when we moved and I quit walking to/from work.

Anyway--isn't the Capitol grand? I love its place in our skyline, and every time I walk around it, I see something new.

    This weekend is the switch to daylight savings time, so that should work out well for your future walking before and after work.

    Smart - I canīt really walk from work because it would take about five hours but maybwe I could park 30 minutes away and walk that distance... but then I need the car at work to go to interviews so I am sort of stuck with that car...

I am a Sci-Fi fan too, but haven't read any Asimov in ages. I actually met him and even got an autograph from him at a Star Trek Convention I attended in New York in the 1970's.

Dream images

I succeeded in my goal of leaving work on time yesterday and drove straight to the gym, where I enjoyed a 44 lap swim. I can tell it's been a while since I've been in the pool... my shoulders told me so. But aerobically, totally fit. It felt good, I went to bed early and slept really well.

I had one of "those" dreams just before waking to the alarm. I had a very frustrating thing at work in the dream, with requirements showing up well after the code had been written and tested... a confrontation with the person voicing those requirements... a threat to toss in the "work towel" and quit... followed by leaving my house and being confronted with a wall of stone and ice blocking my access to the street.

Wow... tons of symbolism to work ones way through there! But the important bit is that I *am* dreaming. Dreams are part of the process of working through life's obstacles. Like that wall. Hmmmm.

Anyway, waking with such an image got my feet to the floor quite promptly, and now I find myself ahead of schedule, and contemplating doing the bus ride to work this morning, so that my walk home won't result in the forced bus ride tomorrow morning. It is shaping up to be a great day, weather wise... so...

Life is good... live it to the fullest... experience what's there to experience... and Spark on! emoticon

    So glad you can sleep long enough to dream -its said dreams are just your subconscious trying to work things out -very good for you to wake up and be aware of what you are going to do.
Well done on the swimming -I simply can't imagine doing 44 laps after a long layoff! You are amazing!!

    Dreams! They're crazy. I never feel like I can figure them out, except in the sense of how I felt when I woke up, and then I'm always so surprised by "dream residue," that I'll feel all shaken up by what happened in the dream, even when I'm wide awake.

I've been sleeping better, and longer, and so am having dreams again. I THINK that's a good thing.

    You have really vivid dreams. I'm a firm believer that they mean something and require some response. When we were thinking about moving house last year I had the most upsetting dream I have ever had and we took that as a warning and changed our minds about moving. Last night's dream is a bit harder to understand. I dreamt that I lost my train season ticket on the way to work. Then I lost my way to work. I could see it in the distance but could not get there. Very strange considering I am between jobs at the moment.

Feeling slightly... victorious?

As I sit here Sparking before work and contemplating the plan for the day, I did that "feelings check", and realized that I made it through an entire weekend "on plan". I did the mileage I needed to do. I did not binge eat. In short, I am feeling that sweet "victory" feeling of having kept promises to myself.

The cautionary note to self for Monday is "now, don't get cocky!" Just keep on following the plan. Which is: I want to leave work on time tonight and get a moderate swim in, as today is "off" from mileage building.

Tomorrow, which is supposed to be a really nice day with high in the upper 60's, I hope to walk home from work. This is a nice, long walk, and will necessitate walking to a bus stop Wednesday morning to get back to work, since I will have left the car at work.

Anyway, that's the initial plan. We shall see what monkey wrenches life tosses into the mix! Life's good. Spark on!

    I have the same experience, followed my plan ALL weekend and am on top of the world... and I donīt want to get cocky over it because that usually leads me to the wrong place. One day at the time – but oh. how glorious it is to have two really good ones!
