Mid-month update

It's been a little spotty, but the last two days have been good. Motivation is key. Deciding that it is worth the little bit of extra effort to give my body the care it needs and deserves. That doesn't mean deprivation... it means nutrition... it means healthy amounts of movement, gentle if the day calls for it.

Today it was a walk with my ol' dog. She turned 13 over the weekend, and the first half of the walk, she didn't seem to want to move her old bones. The second half, however, she was more frisky than I. But at least we got outside. She got some good sniffing in. And I came to terms with how fit I am not, and how fit I am. And hope lives.


By the way, the photo of the dog is an old one, when she was closer to her prime. It's got to be over five years ago, because it's in the old house.

And here I am starting it with hopes and resolution... I obviously did not do well in 2008, but as they say, one day at a time.

    WHO is this lady? And, I did not know you play the violin! That is one way we are not alike though I sure wish I could play that or ANYTHING!

I made it through one good day!

How often over the years and decades have I restarted, trying to "get healthier" and lose weight, gain fitness. They cannot be counted.

Over time I have learned that this is an effort that must be taken one day at a time, and the success of getting through yesterday without a binge, with taking my vitamins, with a bit of activity (mowing the lawn) was wonderful.

Let's see if I can make it two.

Is it finally time to restart?

I went to the doctor this week. Still don't have all the results, but you know how it is, step on the scale: up 35 pounds from last fall. So, so wrong, on so many levels.

I have never been motivated by health fears. Lectures don't do it for me. Somewhere there has to be a place in my soul that wants it, and it hasn't been there for a while.

I'm starting to feel it come back. I hope this is real.

Still sliding the wrong way

I started here at SparkPoints hoping to gain some motivation. I had already been slipping and sliding in the wrong direction, not taking as good care of myself as I should. Eating things I know are bad for my cholesterol, not getting regular exercise (irregular, yes, but not routine)... and hoping for motivation to kick in.

I had done so well, as the photos attest. Well, not so well, and it continues. But I continue to have hope. Tomorrow I start a new work schedule, which I have NOT been looking forward to, but maybe, just maybe... I'll be able to incorporate a few better habits into it?
