A trip out of town

Wednesday, February 03, 2010

Leaving Friday at 3:30 AM to take a group of ladies to a Women's retreat. I have been working out and watching what I eat so as we go for the weekend my new pants and shirts will fit. Yes I bought them a little on the snug side. I have chosen to get smaller not bigger. I believe this will be my last wardrobe change as my hip bones are not sticking out. My goal for the weekend is to not gain weight. Yes I may eat a little differently but I will also add more workout time. I'll let you know how it goes next week. Have a great day everyone.

Have a safe trip, and a blessed time at the retreat. I know that you will come back spiritually refreshed, and also at the same weight you began the retreat. Looking forward to seeing your blog next week.

All the Right Tools

Tuesday, February 02, 2010

My neighbor called me a couple of days ago and asked if I would like to have his workout equipment, he joined a gym with his wife and said they were not gonna take up the room in their house. You know I told him yes, after all it was free. I already had a tread mill, a recumbent bike, free weights, and workout bands along with a jump rope. He has know added a elliptical and a weight machine to my home gym. Yes I think I have all the right tools to keep my body in good shape. However, just having all of these things in my house is not enough. They will not help me get in shape if I just look at them. I have to put them to use. I must make time in my schedule to workout with the various pieces of equipment. Not only must I use them but I must learn to use them correctly. Improper use will not help me get in shape and could cause more harm then good. As I was thinking this morning a thought came to mind. God has given to us all the right tools to have a relationship with Him and to live a good life here and now. He has given us His Word as a instruction manual to live life and to point us in the direction of His son Jesus. But just having the right tools is not enough. We must learn to use them and to use them correctly. My hope is that you are using the manual for life and have made a relationship with Jesus. Have a great day everyone.

    WooHoo! Great analogy!
DOINGFORMYSELF 2/3/2010 3:48PM

What a great neighbor and gift you were given. I am sure you will put them to good use.
PNCARLSON 2/2/2010 4:10PM

What a wonderful gift from God to get those other pieces of workout equipment! I appreciate the way that you wove in the exercise equipment as an analogy that we need to use the equipment that God has given us to know Him, take time to use them, and stay connected to Him. I really appreciate your blogs.
KARENFIT4LIFE 2/2/2010 2:15PM

AMEN! What a great blog. May I add one analogy. I have an elliptical machine in my bedroom and it is currently being used for a clothes/coat/hat rack! Do we not sometimes use God for hanging our hats, and not get around to the service part of our relationship with Him! Today I shall clean off my elliptical machine and have it ready for service and I pray that I am in God's will, being sensitive to every opportunity to be a witness for Him in my actions and deeds! Thanks for making me think!

A great observation. Too few realize it about the exercise machines and even less about our relationship with God.

i so want a treadmill but dad says i have to much stuff now, lol. i think someone stole my instruction manual for life, anyone find it?
UMUCGRAD 2/2/2010 8:27AM

Ooh! I am so jealous! I would LOVE to get a free elliptical machine. But, I make do with my treadmill, bought almost new for $100 from a parishioner who gave up trying to do it at home and got a gym membership. I prefer working out at home, but as you say, you gotta use the tools.

Sending many healthy blessings your way.

That is so true, pastor Jeff! My daughter likes the saying,, "going to church doesn' t make you a Christian anymore than standing in the garage makes you a car."
We have to choose to live life to give glory to God and to be a light to the world. It is hard and seems to get harder as I age because as humans we are all SO fallible.
We just have to keep trying! emoticon emoticon

Today is the Day!!!!!

Saturday, January 30, 2010

emoticon Finally it has arrived, the day when I entered my new weight and the BMI no longer says I am obese or over weight. Today my BMI finally said I am healthy. I already knew I was healthy but it sure was great to look on the screen and see it right before my eyes. I can't tell you how happy I truly am. There was a time I thought this day would never arrive. Thank you sparkpeople and al lothers who have supported me along the way, especially me wife. Soon I will reach my goal weight and then I will maintain it, I know that I can. You know what else I know, I know you can do it also. Your day will arrive and then you will know exactly how I feel. Have a great day evry one.

Fountain of Youth

Thursday, January 28, 2010

It was an unexpected benefit. Yes I have found the fountain of youth. I was at church Wednesday night and went out to shovel snow from the walkway. While I was shoveling a few of the youth from the neighborhood came by and ask me how I had lost so much weight. I told them about sparkpeople and the new healthy lifestyle I have found. As they where leaving they tuned and said "keep up the good job, you look much younger and better then you used to." Yes I found it, the fountain of youth. Really I do feel younger and have much more energy. Working out and losing weight really does have it's benefits. Just another reason for you to not give up.

It Moved

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

Well I had not weighed since Saturday because the scale had stopped moving and it was a little discouraging to look at it. However I have increased my workouts and made sure I was eating right. Today I finally decided to see what it said, once I wiped the sleep out of my eyes ( it was 4 am ) I looked down and yes it moved. It was down 2 pounds from my last weight in. My next scheduled weigh in is next Saturday and I am hoping to be down 3 pounds from my last check in. Then 5 pounds to go to my next goal weight. I do want you to know that even if it had not moved I would have been happy. I am doing the right things and getting healthy and that's what really matters now. Don't let the fact that the scale sometimes does not show that you are making progress cause you to throw in the towel. Just keep pressing on.
PS I am only 3 pounds away from no longer being considered overweight. the last time that happened was when I was in middle school back in the 60's.

This is a timely message as I am battling my own plateau. It is a little frustrating when the scale doesn't move or worst, it goes up. But like you said, keep pressing on and that is what I intend to do. Congratulations!!! God Bless!!
