Last week happenings

So I was on vacation last week. I really only took it off so I could make sure little ones first day of Kindergarten went off without a hitch. But boy was is nice to have a week off with nothing planned, or scheduled. Honestly, besides still getting up at 5:30 to meet the girls at 6 at the gym, I did nothing. I read a little, watched some Law and Order, read some more, napped, than watched a little more Law and Order until it was time to go pick up the kiddo. I feel refreshed, but I may have gotten too use to the napping lol.

My little one had a very big week. Besides starting Kindergarten, she also start soccer this week. Here are a few picks of her week...

Everynight she was exhausted. Which is a nice change from bouncing off the walls.

Myself I started a new book/weight lifting venture

For those of you that are into weight lifting I recommend this book. I haven't read the whole things yet, but a fitness buddy of mine did and she has our weight lifting schedule mapped out for the next 6 months.
I also did a softball tournement this weekend. Haven't played for almost a year so it was kind of exciting but I was also kind of glad we were out after 3 games. But I did get some pretty good running in while out there.

To end I want to just share a funny little pic of our pooch Miss Sally May. While I was home lounging, her and I took many of naps together. One morning I was bringing her in from outside and told her to go sit on the couch. This is what I walked back into....

    Love the pictures and the first days of school are always so exciting for our children! And, you can surely see your little one was and is definitely having fun! Soccer is such a great sport and when my son was in school, that was one of his favorite sports, and I think I was probably one of those loud Soccer Moms on the sidelines rooting the Team on! Have fun and enjoy, hun!

    Hooray for both of us being back on track! In fact I'm changing into my gym attire before heading home. If I change now I'll make myself stop by and work out.

I'm also a Law and Order Fan, in fact I have a signed picture of Jerry Orbach in my "man cave".

Pink Glove Boxing

So I've started a new fitness venture. Or let's say I added on something. Pink Glove Boxing. I am so in love with this. What better than getting to punch things out at the end of the day. It's also more than a class, they want it to be somewhat social as well. So they give you a topic to think about while you are punching things and then at the end of class you discuss it. At first I was a little leary of this. I just like to get my sweat on and leave. But the girls were great and it's nice to meet other people who have similar interests. They also have the tier like thing going on. They have several different "tiers" and the more you come the faster you will move up in tiers. You have to pass the tier sequence to move on but it kind of give you some motivation. Last night we went through our punch sequence, than did some partnering up and punched at mitts. That was a lot of fun. Than at the end, the instructor set up a ladder type thing on the floor and we did some exercise through that and than ran down the steps that were in the building than around the facility, back up the steps and than the leader went to the back and the next person chose what we did. Completely and utterly exhausting... but fun. Going again Thursday, can't wait!

    Sounds like a really fun class! I do cardio kickboxing and I love it... Would be cool to do a class like this where you really hit things!

What an exhausting weekend

So our little girl turned 5 last Tuesday, we had her party Saturday. She, of course, wanted a FROZEN themed party. We normally have a pool party and that takes away any games or entertaining I have to do lol. This year it poured ALL. DAY. LONG. I'm not even exaggerating, it rained for like 36 hours straight. Needless to say, Friday night I had to Pinterest and Google party games for kids. I found a few quick and easy ones and I though if all else failed I would just out Frozen in and let the kids sing and dance. Here are a few photos.

My sister makes Lorelei a costume every year ( she is a costume designer in Chicago). This year of course was an Elsa dress.

Needless to say, the Hubs and I were exhausted on Sunday and we literally did nothing. He played videos games and I shamelessly watched an NCIS marathon all day. I almost felt guilty.... until I didn't.

    She is so precious! At least we've had sunshine yesterday and today. Our creek was flooded and the Snowy Mountains have quite a bit of snow! Sounds like the party was a big hit! Funny how playing with 5 year olds IS exhausting!

This time is for real

I hope.

I know I've said it before but my eating needs to get under control. You can not out run a bad diet. I've tried and it cannot be done. And even though I'm working out most days a week (4-6) my eating has gotten even worse this summer. My pants are no longer fitting all that well.... that is not ok. Coupled with the Hubs increasing number of complaints about his own physique, I've come up with a plan. It's a very complicated plan. Lots of hoops to jump through, fires to fight, dragons to slay....... We will do this together. Thus far, he has not resisted.

So here's the plan. Our little one turned 5 today ( Happy B-day Lorelei), her birthday party is Saturday. I will give us Sunday to recoup and eat left overs. Monday it starts. I've never used the Sparkpeople meal plan but honestly I'm sick of googling "diets" and "easy meal plans" and getting things that are anything but easy or for someone who is training for Mr Universe. So I'm going to try that, anybody else follow it? I'm hoping the Hubs sticks with me. He's kinda wishy washy and sometimes cares that he has a beer belly and other times it's like a trophy he's won for making to his 30's. I guess we will see.... wish us luck.

    Good luck! I have been struggling with eating too. I run and run and run and run....and THEN eat EVERYTHING that isn't nailed down. Its counterproductive! I actually have decided that after this half marathon I am not going to do any more distance running. I have GAINED weight since starting training. I eat healthy food for the most part, just more of it, which doesn't help! I feel like you can't have both for whatever reason, or my will power just stinks!

So in November I plan to shorten my running distances and back down to no more than three runs per week and get back into strength training again. I am hoping to lose this weight I have gained and work on my relationship with food.

I hope you find balance and your husband stays on board with you! Doing it together sure does make it much easier!

    Good Luck! Sounds like a great plan! And awesome that hubby is willing to do it with you!

I haven't followed the meal plan, but I do track my food. I found the tracking to be SUPER helpful. I'm very anti-dieting, I just find it ridiculous. I've had much more success with focusing on portion control. I bought a scale and measuring cups to help keep myself in check. Loading up on fruits and veggies & keeping water with me at all times. Treats sometimes, but in moderation.
My biggest pet peeve about these crazy diets is the fact that as soon as you go back to 'normal' eating, you're just going to gain it all back because you haven't really changed anything.

    With him or without him- you can do it!!! I have found when it comes to weightloss, your self-esteem, and your own comfort, you need to be selfish. Just think- you can make good habits now and your daughter will learn with you. I have a 5yr old daughter as well- she is great at keeping me going and encouraging me. I always ask her if she will exercise with me- and usually she will emoticon

Totally not fitness related, but I need all the opinions I can get

So I've bee thinking of cutting my hair. 90% of my life I've had long hair. I get the urge to cut it once in a while, donate it to Locks of Love. But I've never really gone shorter than shoulder length. Well here is kinda what I'm looking at doing....

So here's the thing. I have THICK, THICK hair and it kinda naturally wavy. Not sure how this cut would pan out. In my head I see it looking afro like lol. My hubs is totally down for this cut because all he's ever seen is long hair. And he is usually seeing it when he unclogs the drain. I kinda have a round face too. Who am I kidding my face it just round, not heart shaped or anything cute like that, just round.

I just need some opinions from some people not afraid to hurt my feelings, and you guys seemed like just the people lol.

    My daughter has a round face and thick wavy hair. She got her hair short and it is dang cute! I say go for it! Hair will always grow back!

    I say go for it!! I too have long, very thick hair and I rarely cut it above my shoulders. BUT,, I make up for it with being adventurous with my color. I'll try almost anything (with exception of unnatural colors like the pinks, blues etc) Like I've told my daughter, it's hair! It'll grow back!! If ya hate it in a few months you'll be over it...have fun, be adventurous, try something new!!

    I say go for it, but maybe slowly. :) I recently cut off about 10 to 11 inches to go a little above the shoulder and I love it! It feels great and so much cooler. I'm not a pixie cut fan personally but if you love it do it. You can always go just above the shoulder or chin length at first to see how that feels then go shorter. If you have a stylist you trust you can also get their opinion. They may be able to let you know the best short cut for your face shape and hair type. :)

    That makes 3 of us with super-thick hair. I find mind pulls the wave out when it is very long and bounces back when shorter.
That said, I am in the process of growing mine out for the first time in years. I have literally been to every hair dresser in my small town and no matter what pictures I bring in, or try to describe what I want, I am never satisfied with the cut. The last lady I went to cut it so that I could style it my way, but she never agreed with my style wishes. I have a very long face and tend to look like an afghan hound in need of a trim much of the time.

    DO IT! I just finally got up the courage to cut off 8 inches and start the process to going platinum blonde and I couldn't be happier with the result. It's scary, but it's hair! If you're worried about the style, can you try to find a similar style with some waves in it?

It's only hair! It will grow back, even if you hate it you'll have stories.

    Personally, I would say not to go that short. I have EXTREMELY thick hair. Like a friggin' horses tail thick. Even about shoulder length doesn't look great on me because it goes outward. I've always wanted to rock short hair (mostly for the ease of it!) but I doubt I'll ever get to. I would maybe consult a beautician? Good luck!
