On the mend!

Monday, March 03, 2014

Well, my poor beleaguered little tootsies are now feeling much, much better

A combination of things have helped; first off (obviously!) my wonderful physio, then wearing Fit-Flops and other arch supporting type shoes plus a ‘new’ bed

The bed was my son’s but now he has left home (again!) he doesn’t need a king size as has moved in to a tiny room in a shared house with his best chums. The bed has a brilliant coil spring mattress and I must say I really notice the difference after just two nights!

The footwear issue has been fun as I adore buying shoes! I treated my self to a pair of Fit-Flops from eBay (gosh, they are expensive!) plus, from Primark a pair of wedgie flip-flops and a pair of faux-Scholls – been alternating between all three pairs over the weekend and boy do I feel better!

I might even resume walking to walk soon… yes I really do feel that good!

Huzzah!

Ow!

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Well, all my good intentions of walking all the way to work and only getting the bus back up the steep hill on the last part of my journey home are now thwarted...

I seem to have developed plantar fasciitis in my right foot, which apart from being really painful is very annoying!

Now I have to catch the bus to and from the city centre and walk from there on the level to work. Probably about a third of my previous walking, but better than nothing.

From what I can tell, it has been caused by the walking after me leading a very sedentary lifestyle (sitting around on a fat backside) for the last year or so as I worked from home.

Think I shall treat myself to a trip to my lovely physio as soon as I save up a bit of cash!

That does sound nasty. You could try swimming or how about the chair cardo workout (in the fitness videos) at least you would still be moving and burning.

Hope your feeling better soon.

A little Rae of Sunshine!

Monday, January 13, 2014

Well, here in the East of the UK it has been beautifully sunny all weekend… what a difference it makes to my mood!

Saturday a lady I work with took me off to a delightful sewing/fabric/craft shop and whilst I did indulge myself, I also kept within the budget I’d set myself – yay!

Yesterday I (finally!) got on with my accounts… not so yay, but once there are done I shall be happier and feel free!

My treat for finishing my account swill be to really tidy up my craft stash. Although it is all on shelves at last,, rather than on the floor and stuffed in corners it is not at all organised. Things have got muddled and it is hard to find what I need and things have been misplaced. I know that once I tip it all out and go through it I shall find things I had forgotten I’d bought!

When it is all tidy I shall be able to get so much more crafting done in my spare time as it won’t be a major trial to find everything I need for a project. I reckon if I really crack on with accounts and tidying after work each night this week I should be on track to make something nice at the weekend… which will be good as my crafty ideas book is getting a nice long list of ideas I am itching to get stuck in to.

I hope all my Sparky chums are coping with weather wherever you are… sounds like some of you are getting really cold or flooded; hope it all improves for you soon

Organizing my hobby things is difficult for me. One thing I want to try is to buy baskets that are decorative and keep my hobbies there. Then put the baskets on the shelves and they will look organized. Does that make sense? I love bookcases and shelves. Good luck organizing and have a great week! emoticon

Patience is a virtue...

Tuesday, January 07, 2014

... virtue is a grace...

... Grace is a little girl with a dirty face....

Sorry - something from a childhood book that always pops in my mind when I think of the word patience!

But really, patience *is* a virtue, one that I don't necessarily have much of! I can't help expecting instant results; after all surely my body should know I am now eating healthily again for (another) long run s therefore why does the weight not drop off like the beads of sweat from my brow on my morning commute-walk?!

Sigh!

Still, I know I am on track as I feel like I did when I stopped smoking - so watch this space for the next photo of me after this**...

I had a fantabulous New Year's Eve at my chum's 'A' themed party. As you can see I went as Agnetha from ABBA... the hair and make up were perfect for me but the whiteness of the leggings etc ... ew, not a good look for a chubby gal!

After all the wonderful indulgences and excesses of the festive season my body has been whinging at me for green veg (thank goodness it hasn't been craving chocolates!) so my last few days have been filled with scrummy healthy meals.

The photos of the season will also help me keep on track! After all Alice Cooper is half the width of me!

Hope you have all had a wonderful time and got everything you wished for

(** Yes, this was the most flattering of all the piccies!)

Fun Picture! emoticon Instant results are OK when keeping score but in strength training and weight control slow and steady is ideal. emoticon You have a great attitude to succeed - you might be interested in Bodybuilding.com and the numerous articles that help in both. emoticon Earl

A step in the right direction

Sunday, December 15, 2013

So, I've been walking to work for 5 days now. My son has picked me up in the evenings as I have had a bad cold and am not quite up to walking both ways

The walk is nice; just over half an hour. It starts with a treacherous totter down the steepest hill in our fine city then plateaus out with a stroll along the river then ends up with a puff and pant up a short but fairly steep hill, then I am at work... all hot and bothered but rather chuffed with myself!

emoticon

I have walked back from the city a couple of times and the steep hill really takes it out of me; but I have discovered the number 23a bus will bring me up to the top of the hill for only a pound. It is worth every penny and I am a good girl and only get it after work, or if I have heavy shopping, plus I only get it for the hill, not all the way from the city centre!

I weighed myself this weekend and discovered to my joy that I am back to the weight I was a couple of months ago; before a week away with oldest-bestest friend on an all inclusive eat and rink al,l you like and lie by the pool holiday, which was followed by a week in bed with a bad cold.

I reckon by my birthday I shall be well on track to fitting back in to my favourite clothes!

Woohoo!

Congratulations! I started walking/taking the train to work a few months ago, and it was the best decision I have made in a long time! I feel great when I get to work and then don't have to feel guilty if I don't get around to exercising at night. It took some weeks to see results, but now things are all coming together. Tomorrow, I am going to try something new: I am going to bring my Nordic Walking Sticks to see if I can speed myself up, especially if there is ice in the winter. Happy walking!
