walkdroid a great app for the phone

Thursday, January 12, 2012

I have been walking the last few days and wanted a pedometer to keep track of my distance. I mentioned this to my dh that I needed to get one next time I ventured out to walmart. He suggested checking my android phone he gave me for christmas. There actually is a lot of free apps for pedometers but found a great one called walkdroid. This thing is amazing, starts when you pick up your phone in the am. I was amazed over the course of one day of walking yesterday I walked 7 miles. Now 2 miles was during my exercise walk in the morning, but I also ventured to a few places in our new neighborhood, did the laundry(still waiting for my washer/dryer to be delivered on sat). I am still getting use to the phone and alot of its capabilities but still amazed with it's technology.

I may have to find that app for my hubby's phone. He carries it all day at work. Mine sets on my desk but I use a FitBit anyway. Thanks for the tip!

Finally moved in!

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

This past week, moved to a new house. We lived in the country and ended up selling our farm and bought a place closer to town. we moved our horses to a boarding place close by. I never really realized how isolated I was til we moved here, I miss my horses but at least now instead of doing all the work and there is a lot to care for horses, I can just enjoy them.
The house is close to a high school track open to the public in the morning and evenings and I have been utilizing that the last couple of days, I feel I have walked more here versus living in the boonies. The cable and net is finally set up. It was hard to stay on track last week due to the move and eating take out for a couple of days but I think all the walking, moving furniture, horses ect kept it from getting out of control.

Sounds like a successful move. Good luck with it all. I live in the 'boonies' and I think the thing I miss the most is not having sidewalks and neighborhoods to walk around. But then again I do like the quiet!

My one word challenge and "Believe"

Saturday, December 31, 2011

I recently read about the one word challenge. It actually has been going on for a few years. The one word challenge is a word you pick that is suppose to define your year for achieving your goals or resolutions.
I thought of several words that I could have picked and rattled my brain as to what could be the defining word for 2012. They gave you some tips which I enclosed in my own words.
Step#1 Determine the person you are striving to become for 2012. Now you could use this to lose weight, get in control of your finances or simply make amends with a family member or becoming closer to your god or religion

The first step is to simply take some time and decide what kind of person you want to be at the end of this year. This goes beyond simply being healthier but this word will dictate how you will achieve it over the next 12 months.

step #2- Get a picture of yourself, make a collage, out line on how you plan to achieve that picture in your mind.

step#3- The hard part- pick your word! I think for me this is hard, since I had so many to pick from. I thought discipline, faith, healthy and then I thought "BELIEVE" I need to believe in myself I can do this, nobody else can do this battle for me. They did not do this to my body, no matter what excuse I gave. Yeah, I have stress, I had poor eating habits, my job makes me eat on the run, but the truth is I chose to let them dictate the broken down person I have become. So for 2012 I will "Believe in myself to continue to lose weight, exercise faithfully and ask for help if I need it." I am so worth the effort and did not "believe this in october when I started"
We are worth the effort so pick your word, there are so many choices that define who you are. Your weight, resolutions that you are making do not define you only you can determine what makes them you.
So 2012 I vow to believe in myself!!!

2011 and resolutions for the new year!

Friday, December 30, 2011

Every year I have made resolutions to lose weight. I make elaborate plans, lists and when by jan 31 I don't achieve the goals I set for myself get disgusted and give up like millions of people do each year. No elaborate plans or lists for me this year, just one simple goal to get healthy. Okay I am making lists! I decided to break down my resolutions to a monthly and weekly goal not really with a number on the scale but a breakdown of small victories and an outline for the month. I will post the first of every month of my goals, victories and defeats and how i can work on the goal for the following month.

I think making the time zone for goals smaller is truly the way to go. I read on someone elses blog that their goals are quarterly and not yearly. Every year I struggle on with the weight issue. Im a PROFESSIONAL dieter but am still obese. So dieting is not my problem. I've proved over and over I can lose it. This year my goal will be to get past the compliments (especially from males) which normally sends me emotionally running for cover and that cover is fat.
So my goal is to arm myself mentally for the compliments. Weight loss looks good on me but their compliments, whistles, calf eyes are not worth my running scared. So here's to 2012 and reaching our goals.

Holiday eating "Don't sabotage yourself"

Thursday, December 22, 2011

Christmas is only 4 days away and I used to really love to make the special dinner and all the goodies that go along with it. I knew if I did not make a few changes all the hard work over the last 2 months would be added back on in a few days.
First I opted not to bake any cookies this year, I could have made a few changes and made the cookies healthier. I really did not have any time to bake, we are planning a move on the 6th and packed away a lot of my bake ware I absolutely did not need so just bought a small tray that I can let the family enjoy. I can resist those lil sweet empty calories if I don't make them myself.
2nd- I made a serious plan this year making things I know my dh and family love but allowing myself to have some healthy items so I don't go way overboard.
Merry christmas to everyone and enjoy your traditions but think before you put that chip or cookie in your mouth how long it took you to lose your weight and how backward you might put yourself in your plan to be a better you. Sometimes it just is not the amount of weight you put back on it gives you the freedom to go overboard and perhaps not get back on plan after the holidays and you say "what is the use"

I totally agree! I've decided that my gift to myself will be that I don't gain weight this Christmas and that I do stay on track.

I chose to make better healthy choices and made sure those who are important to me understand why I am choosing different health choices and even my boss is on board and gave me the only gift of health. He gave chocolate bars to the others and gave me the almonds he knows I enjoy and eat daily. emoticon
