Last day of the juice fast

Thursday, June 20, 2013

Well, I made it through 11 days and 11 pounds lost in the process. I'm still 30 pounds away from my goal, but every little bit is a step in the right direction. I'm moving on to an intermittent fasting routine while following a low carb diet. I had a lot of success with low carb when I was younger-losing 50 pounds over three months, however I've never been able to duplicate the results because I have a much different routine now. Before I worked in a sterile facility where I wasn't able to leave and return without showering in and out. I then had a second job in the evenings tutoring, which didn't give me time to eat out for breakfast or lunch. I bought all my meals just for myself and never broke from my meal plans.

Now I work from home, and with my illness I have become very sedentary. I usually start out well, but the weekends make me fumble, and I'll end up have a couple glasses of wine and something that I shouldn't be eating. So far I have lost 14 pounds since joining SP a couple months ago-and that's including the time I was bedridden before my surgery. Hopefully this losing trend will continue and inspire me to be more dedicated with my low carbing.

Thanks for all the support-I will continue blogging :)

Juice fasting day 10

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Yesterday was the big day at the doctor, but unfortunately, he didn't have any news on my biopsy yet. I have to wait until next week to find out. My bf and I took a trip across on the ferry to the mainland and spent the day together. We had anticipated seeking out a juice bar, but in the end we settled for making a large grapefruit, orange juice when we got home.

My thoughts are rattled by the possibility of having cancer, but my family has been dismissive of my fears. It seems so easy for them to assume everything is fine, and in their assurance, I feel my worries, horror, and 'what if's' go unacknowledged. Nobody wants to talk about the possibility, which I guess is something I need to meet head on-while they would rather not think about it.

The end of the juice fast is near-tomorrow I will begin eating solid fruits to prepare for the food and wine festival on Saturday. I've lost 10 pounds so far, but more importantly I feel healthy.

It can be hard when other people don't understand or honor your worries. Here's hoping you find some good friends (perhaps on SP?) who do. Meantime, let me be the first to tell you that your emotions are ALWAYS worth honoring -- by yourself, first of all! And that I'd be worried if I were in your same boat. It's only natural. Best of luck on your journey, and thanks for sharing.

Juice Fasting Day 8

Monday, June 17, 2013

Apologies for not blogging over the weekend-I was very busy, and I find once you hit the 5 day mark there isn't much to say on the topic of juice fasting. I have one more week to go-although I had forgotten that I had purchased tickets months ago to the food and wine festival which is taking place this weekend, so I will probably end my fast a little early in order to take part.

Today is two weeks since my surgery, and the swelling has much improved. I am off to the doctor this morning to check my thyroid hormone levels, and tomorrow I meet with my surgeon to find out the results of my biopsy.

This morning I had a lovely peach carrot orange juice topped up with coconut water.

Juice fasting day 5

Friday, June 14, 2013

Once again I found day 5 a challenge. My brain was working double time yesterday trying to get me craving everything I saw on tv as I nurses my headache. I started the day with a nice orange ginger lemon sparkling juice. I needed something extra for the migraine-usually I load up on carbs which helps shorten the length-but juice had to do. For lunch I juiced a couple carrots, tomatoes, celery, onion, garlic and spinach and then warned the juice in a pot with some fresh basil and turmeric. It was a delicious light soup. For dinner I had my spicy vegetable cocktail as usual. I'm up 0.8 pounds today, but I assume that has to do with taking medication for the headache and that it's that time of the month.

Do a two week fast rather than 30 days is harder and easier at the same time. In some ways the mental preparation for a long fast sort of turns you off the idea of food more than one where you know next week you will be cooking again. I keep thinking about what im going to eat next week, or what groceries I'm going to buy. When I had anticipated a 30 day fast I really wasn't burdened with these thoughts. I suppose I didn't really have to go through the end phases of the fast because my doctor took me off unexpectedly.

I have been craving grilled cheese sandwiches and smoked salmon-we plan to go fishing on the weekend so maybe I can get some trout cured and ready to smoke by the time my fasting is done.

Another writing day-i have to make up for not doing anything yesterday.

Juicing fast day four

Thursday, June 13, 2013

So I woke up with a migraine this morning, which is why I'm only writing my blog now. Yesterday I got good news, the sale of my cabin is going through and I can start looking for a new home. This is a big step for Simon and me, since we have both owned houses before but not together. Currently I have been renting the cabin out and we are renting a townhouse downtown. I love the location here, but the rent is pricey. We have been looking at a couple heritage homes on a couple acres near the ocean. Very exciting.

I spent a few hours writing yesterday as well. Editing is my least favorite part-but years of marking essays, makes it easier.

Yesterday's juices were orange carrot grapefruit for breakfast, green apple spinach and cinnamon for lunch, and peach apple orange for dinner.

Not much else to report-I didn't weight myself today because of the headache. More tomorrow when I'm feeling better :)
