No Motivation and In a Rut

Wednesday, October 30, 2013

I have been very down in the dumps the past several weeks because of how sick to my stomach I've been ever since getting out of the hospital last month after having knee surgery. I went to my doctor a couple of weeks ago and he had a CT scan done which showed gall stones and a bad gall bladder, so he sent me to a surgeon to get scheduled for gall bladder surgery and the surgeon isn't 100% sure it's my gall bladder making me sick so she referred me to another specialist for the stomach which I go to next week. Fun, fun. I am now on a nightly stomach medication which I believe has helped slow down my weight loss. I am still losing but at a much slower rate now. There are still days when I go through most of the day without eating but I have been trying to eat, at least some fruit, during the course of the day just to have some nourishment, and I do try to eat as much as I can during dinner. I go to physical therapy twice a week (45 minutes per day) still for my knee but when I am home I'm usually spending my time sleeping, because I have no energy due to my lack of appetite. I am hoping and praying that the specialist I'm going to next week can find out what's wrong with me and get it fixed. I am so tired of feeling sick all the time.

Surgery Set

Monday, August 19, 2013

I went to my orthopedic surgeon today and I'm going into the hospital on Sept 17 for a total knee replacement on my left knee. But, I left the doctors office with a little more confidence then usual. It felt really good when the first words out of my doctors mouth when he came into the exam room was "You've lost weight!" And I wasn't weighed at the office today. So I must be doing something right if the doctor can notice that I'm losing weight. :)

Another Pound Down

Friday, August 16, 2013

Woo-Hoo!!!!! I weighed myself again this morning and found that I lost another pound, hopefully never to be seen again. It has been such a long, hard road for me and with all my health problems and all the meds I'm taking I never thought it was possible to lose even a pound. When I started all over on SP I was 289, I am now down to 276 emoticon I have made it a habit to tell myself every morning when I wake up to stay active and watch what I eat. I have good days and bad days when it comes to my diet, but I'm not letting that slow me down anymore and discourage me. emoticon

RMCKITTRICK, you have the right stuff to get healthy! It IS hard when you have challenges and the moments of victory (a pound lost) seem slow in coming. I'm having the same experience. Like you, I've made the same commitment, NOT giving up this time around!
Your weight loss to date is inspiring and wonderful! Just pick up a 10 pound bag of sugar or dog food or whatever and carry it around for awhile...that's how much you NEVER have to add back to your load, again, cause it's GONE! Yay for you!
Keep celebrating those small victories, and staying in the right mindset. You're doing great!
I learned a good lesson from my granddaughter. When she was only about 2, she struggled to ever finish a meal. Food just isn't her thing (still, and she's 4 now) and she required a lot of coaxing to finish the minimum amounts she needed to eat. One day when I was visiting, she managed to finish all her dinner...without whining or refusing or crying about it. She looked around, triumphantly. We all smiled and said how nice she ate her food. To which she replied, hands in the air, "YAY for ME!" she paused a minute and added, with imperious royal command in her voice, "Everybody, CLAP!" And we laughed, and clapped, while she sat smiling, basking in the applause she felt she deserved, at last. It reminded me it's OK to celebrate, and even more that it's OK to ASK for what you need, if you don't get it spontaneously!
Have a great day,

Jane

Healing Well

Thursday, July 18, 2013

My wrist seems to be healing better then what I thought it would. The swelling has gone done quite a bit, the blisters are gone, and the incision is healing nicely. I go back to the surgeon on the 29th for a checkup. I have been trying to workout the best I can. Of course I can't do floor exercises or use weights yet, but I have been doing squats, calf raises, and I've been doing shadow boxing. Hopefully the doctor will give me some exercises to do with my hurt wrist so I can start regaining full use out of it. He may even send me to physical therapy for it.

my bad luck

Sunday, June 23, 2013

I've had some bad luck this past week, and I can't babysit or workout because of it. I tripped over the bottom door jam of our front door last Monday, 06/17/13, and missed the 3 steps going down and hit the sidewalk. I sprained my right arm, got bruises on both legs and busted my left wrist and split one of the bigger bones in the arm in two. I had to have surgery the day after where the doctor put a metal plate in my wrist and arm. needless to say I am in severe pain and I feel like I have been literally beaten up by asphalt rollers. I hate the fact that I can't do anything, although, I attempted to wash dishes with my "good" hand, and fold clothes and towels today, because it had to be done. I couldn't do a lot due to the pain so i'm just going to have my daughter finish the housework on her days off this week. go for my followup with the ortho on july 1 and will hopefully get a new cast on that I can take off when I take a shower.
