Wedding!

Monday, September 15, 2014

My sister was married last Saturday in our other sisters vineyard/ranch.Due to lack of funds we all pitched in and helped make the 1920s theme wedding a memorable one.Bride and groom both come from large Italian families.Groom has 3 adult children, bride 5 from 11 to 23 plus 18 month grand child. The two entire families were married together. It is something to see a non-traditional wedding with an older bride and groom(38 and 47) While the bride walked up the garden steps "Burning ring of fire" was sung. She was escorted by her 20 yr old son.My daughter flew in from her army base to be an attendant. No she didn't wear her dress blues.Everybody wore 1920s/Great Gatsby attire. My sister who owns the ranch made party favor jam for all the guests. We had made 350 iced and decorated cookies plus 134 cupcakes with roses made from icing. All gluten free .The grooms family brought Lasagna and sourdough bread. My sister made gluten free sourdough. Most of my family is gluten intolerant. My sister also made gluten free Lasagna.I think non-traditional weddings are the best.If I can get my son to help,I will post pictures. emoticon

Daughter

Friday, July 11, 2014

My daughter was injured in Afghanistan again. She was medevaced back to Ft Lewis last Thursday.(That kid needs to stay out of Afghanistan.)This time it wasn't the Homeboys who injured her but and officer. While she was working on her Apache helio. He told her to clean up a drop of oil under the number one drive shaft. She had to hang on to the struct with her rt hand and reach in to clean the oil up. Of course the engine was running. The drive shaft turns at 1000 RPMS.As soon as her hand touched it she yanked it out. Her hand was cut to the bone and burned. The kid is funny when she called me she said her bones sure look healthy.
They wrapped it and put her on a plane to Kuwait then Maryland then Wa.State.They didn't want to work on it because of infection. So she had one wrap soaked in blood and motor oil/grease on it for a week. When she got to the states she cleaned it herself and wrapped clean bandages on it.She got to Wa on the 3rd and told she couldn't see a doctor until after the holiday. I told her to go to ER and I would pay for it.She refused. I can't believe the army didn't take care of her hand with the bone showing ASAP.It was bad enough that she was immedatly removed from Afghastain.
By the way,she was told most people who come in contact with 1000 RPM drive shafts lose their hand during the accident. She was lucky that she had such quick reflexes.
I don't know yet if she has to have artificial skin placed over the bone yet or how much nerve and ligament damage she has.My daughter will be back in Calif the first part of Sept for her 24th birthday.I may fly up to see her in a couple of weeks after my son gets out of summer school. This kid is turning my hair grey while she is doing her patriotic
duty . emoticon

Being a veteran myself, that has been injured while in service, I can tell you that the medical services for our active (and non-active) servicemen (and women), are pretty much laughable. For example, I had an ammo box full of 50 cal barrels (close to 1000 lbs) dropped on the side of my foot. It tore the boot, went through my foot and through the sole. Once I got to the hospital, I did NOT receive any pain meds at all. I was only given a sponge a scrub brush, and a small plastic bucket full of antibiotic scrubbing agent. I can't tell how bad scrubbing the wound myself hurt. I was left there for about an hour, and then the doctor finally returned and sewed me up the best he could. Had I gone to an outside doctor, the entire damaged area on my foot would have been numbed and I would have received something for the pain. I think a lot of the problem is that most military doctors are just there to pay off their student loans and not to serve their country.

Please tell your your daughter thanks for her service and wish her well.

Stacy

The will to survive!

Thursday, October 17, 2013

Monday my 21 yr old niece and two friends were driving off the mountain where they live above Palm Springs,Calif.(Palms to Pines Highway-74)For those who don't know the highway,it is very curvy and has 1000 ft drop offs.My niece was in the back seat doing her homework. the two other girls in front. for some reason the driver swerved and they went over the edge. The car rolled several times and landed at least a hundred feet down the cliff. My niece crawled out a window and dragged her self up the cliff by grabbing onto brush etc... She was found by the road. You could see her bloody trail up the cliff. She has no memory other than the para-medics working on her. Now the reason why I say the will to survive,My nieces back was broke in four places plus the whole back of her skull was crushed. Her arms and hands were cut up from the brush she grabbed to get out.She even had sticks pushed all the way through her finger nails.
My niece was transported first because they thought her injuries were the worst. However ,at the hospital they discovered the driver was almost decapitated. Only her exposed spinal column and blood veins kept her head intact. the other girl only has a few bruises. Its going to be a long haul for my niece and the driver. My niece has a six month old baby who by miracle was with grandpa and not with her that day.My daughter is trying to get emergency leave to see her. They are very close.Your prayers would be welcome. emoticon

Dentist!

Thursday, July 25, 2013

My son loses his dental insurance Sept 23rd ,his 26th birthday. We hadn't been to the dentist for almost two years because when I retired they changed my coverage to Delta Dental and gave me a dentist in Palm Desert near Palm Springs,Ca. It was to far to drive from Anza. Now I moved even further away,,so was able to change to a closer dentist. While working ,I had good insurance. It paid for almost everything and only cost 44 a month for the whole family. Now that I have retired,I only have my son and I on the policy. It was a shock yesterday.I need a deep cleaning 420.00(I use to pay 150)a 400 dollar crown.need two.plus several cavities at 180 a pop.(use to be free).I have to wait until I get my tax refund next year. My sons work was the most important. He had 9 cavities, needs a crown plus the deep cleaning. My son only makes several hundred a month transcribing plus working in the vineyard.Even if we split the cost ,it comes to almost a 1000 each.Plus we have a short time frame to get the work done. The deep cleaning and crown are the most important, so his first appt is August 13th.My son will ask for more work to be transcribed plus pick up more hours in the vineyard. My income is fixed,so will have to cut back gas, junk food and bingo.
Was starving,so went out to eat,a No-No due to needing money and don't eat from stress. Appleys has a 2 for 20.Had steak ate 2 oz, baked potato/sour cream, ate most of it .ate all the fresh veggies and a few chips and dip.So even though I was stress eating,I tried to be good. Thanks for letting vent. Now to get back on track.I have a hill to climb.

I hear ya. We do not have dental insurance either. Some dentists will work with you to pay monthly if you work it out with them beforehand. Dentists are terrible expensive unless you find one that understands the plight of the low-income masses. I hope all turns out well for you and your son.

yes I know dental care is so expensive, and my dentist will not take the insurance I can get through my insurance, so I just always go twice a year and hope the maintenance does not go into something more, and of course it sometimes does, but sometimes it doesn't. I just usually put it on my handy credit card, and make sure it is paid at months end. works for us

I have had a revolving credit with my dentist for over 20 years. It's never been paid in full, and at times has been up as high as $2,000, even with dental insurance picking up the first $1,500 per person plus all the cleanings. We all go twice per year, but now it's only DH and me, so hopefully it won't add up so fast. Now that I'm self-employed, I no longer have the insurance, but luckily I have a dentist at a small office that will do that for us, and not charge interest. After all this time, they're just like family!

Helping sister move.

Wednesday, June 05, 2013

My younger sister is moving into my old place on my friend's property.I'm moving books once again! Didn't I just move 10,000 to my storage sheds? My sister has about 5,000. They fit in 6 8ft book cases. The mobile is 10/50 ft. She will have to cover her windows in book cases. My sister will have further to drive for her entertainment jobs. There are several schools close by so she could apply for a teaching job in between acting/comedy and convention jobs. She will get to take all her cats ,dog and bird. She wants to paint her new place(art work on inside and outside walls before she leaves for a gig in Utah and the movie she will be in next month.)I wish her all the luck in the world, even though I hate moving.I just spent three months moving me off the "hill".I will help her all I can.
