The will to survive!

Thursday, October 17, 2013

Monday my 21 yr old niece and two friends were driving off the mountain where they live above Palm Springs,Calif.(Palms to Pines Highway-74)For those who don't know the highway,it is very curvy and has 1000 ft drop offs.My niece was in the back seat doing her homework. the two other girls in front. for some reason the driver swerved and they went over the edge. The car rolled several times and landed at least a hundred feet down the cliff. My niece crawled out a window and dragged her self up the cliff by grabbing onto brush etc... She was found by the road. You could see her bloody trail up the cliff. She has no memory other than the para-medics working on her. Now the reason why I say the will to survive,My nieces back was broke in four places plus the whole back of her skull was crushed. Her arms and hands were cut up from the brush she grabbed to get out.She even had sticks pushed all the way through her finger nails.
My niece was transported first because they thought her injuries were the worst. However ,at the hospital they discovered the driver was almost decapitated. Only her exposed spinal column and blood veins kept her head intact. the other girl only has a few bruises. Its going to be a long haul for my niece and the driver. My niece has a six month old baby who by miracle was with grandpa and not with her that day.My daughter is trying to get emergency leave to see her. They are very close.Your prayers would be welcome. emoticon

I am praying for their healing - both physically and spiritual. Knowing that they survived provides tremendous reassurance that their lives are still viable and valuable. Yes, there will be a lot of work but God has been with them thus far and will continue along the way. I am praying for their families as well.

Dentist!

Thursday, July 25, 2013

My son loses his dental insurance Sept 23rd ,his 26th birthday. We hadn't been to the dentist for almost two years because when I retired they changed my coverage to Delta Dental and gave me a dentist in Palm Desert near Palm Springs,Ca. It was to far to drive from Anza. Now I moved even further away,,so was able to change to a closer dentist. While working ,I had good insurance. It paid for almost everything and only cost 44 a month for the whole family. Now that I have retired,I only have my son and I on the policy. It was a shock yesterday.I need a deep cleaning 420.00(I use to pay 150)a 400 dollar crown.need two.plus several cavities at 180 a pop.(use to be free).I have to wait until I get my tax refund next year. My sons work was the most important. He had 9 cavities, needs a crown plus the deep cleaning. My son only makes several hundred a month transcribing plus working in the vineyard.Even if we split the cost ,it comes to almost a 1000 each.Plus we have a short time frame to get the work done. The deep cleaning and crown are the most important, so his first appt is August 13th.My son will ask for more work to be transcribed plus pick up more hours in the vineyard. My income is fixed,so will have to cut back gas, junk food and bingo.
Was starving,so went out to eat,a No-No due to needing money and don't eat from stress. Appleys has a 2 for 20.Had steak ate 2 oz, baked potato/sour cream, ate most of it .ate all the fresh veggies and a few chips and dip.So even though I was stress eating,I tried to be good. Thanks for letting vent. Now to get back on track.I have a hill to climb.

I hear ya. We do not have dental insurance either. Some dentists will work with you to pay monthly if you work it out with them beforehand. Dentists are terrible expensive unless you find one that understands the plight of the low-income masses. I hope all turns out well for you and your son.

yes I know dental care is so expensive, and my dentist will not take the insurance I can get through my insurance, so I just always go twice a year and hope the maintenance does not go into something more, and of course it sometimes does, but sometimes it doesn't. I just usually put it on my handy credit card, and make sure it is paid at months end. works for us

I have had a revolving credit with my dentist for over 20 years. It's never been paid in full, and at times has been up as high as $2,000, even with dental insurance picking up the first $1,500 per person plus all the cleanings. We all go twice per year, but now it's only DH and me, so hopefully it won't add up so fast. Now that I'm self-employed, I no longer have the insurance, but luckily I have a dentist at a small office that will do that for us, and not charge interest. After all this time, they're just like family!

Helping sister move.

Wednesday, June 05, 2013

My younger sister is moving into my old place on my friend's property.I'm moving books once again! Didn't I just move 10,000 to my storage sheds? My sister has about 5,000. They fit in 6 8ft book cases. The mobile is 10/50 ft. She will have to cover her windows in book cases. My sister will have further to drive for her entertainment jobs. There are several schools close by so she could apply for a teaching job in between acting/comedy and convention jobs. She will get to take all her cats ,dog and bird. She wants to paint her new place(art work on inside and outside walls before she leaves for a gig in Utah and the movie she will be in next month.)I wish her all the luck in the world, even though I hate moving.I just spent three months moving me off the "hill".I will help her all I can.

Scotty McCreery show

Saturday, June 01, 2013

Last night I and a friend attended The Temecula Wine and Balloon festival. It is only over the fence from the vineyard where I live .I fell in love with Scotty when he was on American Idol in 2011.I hate to say this but 64 is to old to see a concert on the green(no seats)We brought lawn chairs, had a good close view of the stage.HOWEVER,that didn't count when Scotty came on.I had to stand or be trampled by drunk 16-30 year olds. Scotty puts on a good show. He really works the stage so everybody can see him which I appreciated.
At 6 AM this morning the balloons started flying.Right now I can see them out my window. One just landed less than 75 ft from my front door.I can hear and see the flame blower. It is really cool, however, we have to worry about fire when they land on the dry grass. Now that I'm up,its off to play bingo in my Scotty Tee shirt.Yes I'm also a concert tee shirt addict. emoticon Have lots from Julian Lennon to now Scotty.Have a Fun Weekend with music and laughter

    That is more than awesome!

There is something amazing about those balloons isn't there? Especially when you get to see them up close like that. Ballooning was popular when we lived in Georgia, one day sitting outside and heard this weird sound from above, it was a balloon in distress that landed in an open field about 2 blocks away. Between the neighbors rushing to see it and the chase crew it was quite a site. They later used that field a couple of times to launch. So thanks for the memory.

Jury Duty Calif. style

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

In California,You are sent a jury summons appomx 28 days before you are required to serve. The weekend prior to date, you call in to see if you have to serve on Monday. If you have to go in,it's one day or one trial. You sit in a room of about 160 other people waiting to see if you have to serve. If you don't get called, you are excused untilthe next year.No 15.00 plus 39 cents a mile unless you are there two or more days. If you don't show up,you can be arrested and have to pay a 1500 dollar fine and or jail time. Most people don't want to serve. Its a hassle, with their job, child care beliefs etc....Now me; I would love to serve.I understand the law, retired Calif.peace officer plus I'm healthy, and retired.Because I worked Probation ,I was sent a jury summons every year.Only once did I get as far as a seat on the jury panel.Of course it was a gang-related assault ie my specialty.Of course I was dismissed.Another time I was recognized by the attorney in a case and excused after a crazy woman was dismissed.I figured now I'm retired,I will be put on a case.Today I sat with 160 others, most griping about being there. I had my books(pare in the car) food, coffee, change for the vending machine. At 10:30 they said there were several trials going on. 80 people would be called.Yippee! my name was called! Finally I will be on a jury.then the clerk said,"listen carefully, all 80 called, you are excused for this year."All of the people who thought they had skated were now going to be on a jury. Most of the people who were called became giddy with relief.Me Grumpy!I think once a peace officer always a peace officer. My name must get red flagged every time I show up for jury duty.In my opinion, I would make a good juror. So maybe next year!

emoticon Your Procedure sounds very similar to how it is done in Oklahoma. I have only been called once for Jury Duty and I went in to it "Kicking & Screaming". The Judge was so good about talking with the Jury during breaks, answering Questions (about Procedure, Not about the Case), and telling Storys about his experiences over the years that I ended up Enjoying the whole experience immensely! I would jump at a chance to serve again -- Especially in his courtroom.
emoticon It seems to me like at least the Prosecutor would want "Someone Like You" or DIDMIL on their Jury. At least you know the Law.

LADYFROMTHEWOOD 5/29/2013 9:34AM

I love jury duty too. Our state pays $12 a day, so I felt rich after serving 2 days/month for 6 months! LOL. But we did end up with a child abuse case and a murder, so the heavy responsibility of hearing evidence (grand jury) was heart-breaking. I was glad not to be on the actual jury for those.
Better luck next time! You'll make a great juror!

I would love to sit on a jury at least once. My mother worked as a receptionist for the Colorado highway patrol in a small town. And when any of her immediate family walked in the door of the court room to report for jury duty, we were immediately dismissed. Since moving to CA, I have been summoned once, spent the entire day sitting in the room waiting with probably 160 people and was dismissed at the end of the day. I have been in CA 10 years and only received one summons so far.

Awww... I know the feeling. I worked for a corporation that paid jury duty, and got called for my one day a few times, but never even saw the inside of a courtroom. Now I'm a freelancer, so it wouldn't be as financially happy to spend too much time on a jury. I haven't been called in years.

Ever looked into volunteering for a year your County's Grand Jury?
