House Fire over the weekend

Monday, December 09, 2013

Early Saturday morning, I woke up to what I thought was a break in because I heard windows breaking on the first floor. My husband got up to find there was thick, black smoke in stairwell. We couldn't see so we went out a 2nd floor window. Luckily neighbors heard all the noise from the fire at the front of the house. They helped us get down a ladder. Luckily we got out and the fire was limited to the front room. Unfortunately, there is a lot of water and smoke damage.

We are very thankful to friends and neighbors helping us out in a tough time.

Thank goodness you guys are ok. Sorry you are having to go through this, but it sounds like it could have been a lot worse for sure...very scary! Hoping that you'll be able to recover well.

I went through a house fire about 14 years ago . It is very scary.... we were lucky that we had been gone and came home to it. I'm so sorry you have to go through this but do remember how lucky you are.

Keep in mind that when you hear sirens (this happened to me and two of my friends that have had house fires) that we would get queasy and one friends actually would get sick to her stomach. It was just a delayed emotional reaction that lasted over a year for me. Don't worry if it happens to you because it will stop after a while.

Be sure to write down EVERY SINGLE item, every fork, spoon, etc. you have for insurance. They were our biggest pain to deal with. Clothing that may seem fine, won't be. I had cloths that took smoke damage and within a year they began to fall apart at the seams. The smoke does damage to the material you can't see.

So glad that everyone got out of the house safely! The thought of a fire is pretty scary!

Oh my gosh I am so happy to hear you all are okay. My brother had a house fire years ago, the dog would not stop barking, it happened in the childrens' bedroom, there was nothing left of that room.Thank the Lord for their dog.Take care

What a blessing you were awakened! We awoke to a fire in our bedroom several years ago. Such a scary experience! I am very thankful for smoke detectors. Without ours, we probably wouldn't be here today. Wishing you all the best as you deal with the aftermath!

Earthquake

Wednesday, November 13, 2013

Felt an earthquake for the first time and it was at work. It was a bit un nerving when the building was shaking. Here is a pic of the damage. I wonder how long it will take for FEMA to show up? emoticon

So far have never been in an earthquake. Have been in hurricanes, snow storms, tornadoes but never a earthquake. Not sure if I want to have the ground shake under me..

I was in Maine when I experienced my first earthquake. I thought the furnace next door had exploded. I never would have believed that Maine could have an earthquake. The second time was when I was in Pa. My son works in a hi-rise in Philly and he said the building was swaying pretty good. In both instances there wasn't any damage but it was still pretty frightening.
