I decided to have cabbage today. 1/2 a head cooked in chicken broth with 6 chicken thighs diced, 2 T olive oil, and a can of diced tomatoes, split into two meals for my brother and I. So 1/4 of a head of cabbage each. This turned out to be a LOT of cabbage.
I woke up, went for my walk, and ate my eggs. I read some of my political mysteries this afternoon ( by Ed Gorman ). Then I cooked up lunch. I thought it might be a problem when I cut it up, because it was so much. I had cooked 12 chicken thighs, so I had a lot of broth left over, so i added oil, and all the cabbage, and bolied it for about 45 minutes, then added tomatoes, and 5 minutes later the pre-cooked chicken, and ate 5 minutes later. I used black pepper, and garlic powder, but when I tasted it, it needed LOTS of salt..lol. I ain't short of breath now, but it seemed like a lot to make it taste better.
Just to throw it in here. I lost another lb, and was 193.6 today, which made me happy.
After lunch my brother headed off to work, limping from his gout, and I took a nap. He is still at work, so the pain must not be too bad. Hoping he gets better soon. I woke up at around 8 p.m., and have been sitting here Sparking for a few hours. I was rubbing my chest ( itch ), and felt a bump on it near my right shoulder. It was squishy, so I went in to my bathroom, and shaved the hair off, so I could see what it was. It is a vein, but not like I have on my calves, feet, or forearms ( not biceps, alas ). This wasn't nice and smooth, like a string. This is like silly string, It is not straight, and looks weird. At least it isn't a cyst or something, which was my first thought.
I started thinking about how some people look worse when they lose the weight. I have a dent in my forehead that is starting to show up more. My brother says it is from him punching me in the head as a child. I wouldn't doubt it. Of course, I have a lot of loose skin, but I expected that. Can't do much about it. I need to lose more, so whatever is underneath the fat is going to be visible as i keep dropping weight.
Supper is green beans and more chicken. While my brother is having gout flare-ups, we are foregoing red meat, since he thinks it is a cause of gout. He drank Coke, and ate venison over the Thanksgiving week, and thinks both are why he is in pain. It's okay. I love chicken. Eating it 14 times a week is not a problem. We will be eating it at 1:30 tonight, but I am still kind of full from all that cabbage. I plan to watch Bones, and go to bed.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Not sure if this is true..lol. I am pretty sure the label on the bag is a complete fabrication. It says 23 g carbs, 15 g fiber. SP has the fiber in 1/2 cup cooked at 19 g carbs, about 6 g fiber.
Then I hear the " quick rinse ", isn't even cooking. It's just prep ( an hour ). I think I then need to boil them more, until tender, like pasta. Heard it may be another hour? I wonder if it will continue expanding as I cook. At what point do I measure them? The bag says 1/4 cup dry is 70 calories, but with the fiber being so far off, I have to wonder if anything is accurate.
At least I can cook multiple servings at one time. They are Great Northern beans, and were cheap, in case I ruin them..lol. I think cooking a batch will answer some of my questions, but if anyone has more advice, I welcome it.
I got the beans, and some peanuts. My brother ate the macadamia nuts at one sitting. I got one oz of them. Today I am at 196.0, so the scale is behaving. My week will be averaging about 75 grams of carbs a day, as long as I don't start to gain weight. I am hoping to maintain this level for a while, if I can. If I start to gain, I will just nix my snacks, so no worries there.
This week, I read Black Wind and Poseidon's arrow, by Clive Cussler, Year Zero by Jeff long, and Last Days of Summer by Margaret Maron. I am starting Sleeping Dogs by Ed Gorman today.. a political mystery.
I took an hour long walk today. It is supposed to be 40 all week long ( nice and warm ). Then i went grocery shopping by myself, and gassed up the car for my brother. I still have to do my " weightlifting ".. with 20 lb dumbbells, and resistance bands. Other than that I just need to watch the Pistons game.
have a great end of the weekend!

I have gotten down to 195.6. Today I am a lb over that, but I feel pretty good. We ate a lot of venison this week, so my brother is having gout problems. Hopefully in a few months that is behind him, as he continues eating like I do ( + oatmeal ).
I have kind of cut down on my protein this week, and upped carbs some. Instead of trying for some beans or something carby, in small quantities, I am just going to eat more vegetables.
I am still eating just over 2000 calories a day, but today I ate 63 g of carbs, 16 from fiber. This came up to 10 servings of vegetables, and 1 of fruit. That's a lot of carbs for me. To eat 100 grams of carbs this way, I would need to eat 15-18 servings
The reason for me cutting protein some, is I began to wonder if 30 % protein was too high. Plus, my brother seems to have a problem with higher protein.. even if he replaces my eggs with oatmeal. So instead of 6 thighs for a meal, I cut down to 4 ( about 7 ozs for each of us ), and added a lot of vegetables.
I had my usual omelette today with 1 cup of mushrooms for breakfast ( 2 servings ). Lunch was 1/2 cup onions ( 1 ), 2 chicken thighs, 2 T olive oil, 1/2 can NS tomatoes ( 1.75 ), and 1 cup mixed peppers ( 2 ). Dinner was a can of green beans ( 3.5 ), with 4 pcs. chicken, and 2 T oil. My snack was 1.75 ozs sharp cheddar, and 1/2 a granny smith apple ( 1 ).
The canned tomatoes and green beans are serving sized off the can, so the 11.25 servings of vegetables/fruit may be off a little, but it is still quite a lot of veggies.
Tomorrow I have at least 11 servings of fruit veggies again. I got 3 peppers for $1.29 at grocery this morning.. orange, yellow, and red. I plan to have some more with my mushrooms in my omelette tomorrow. I stopped by the pizzeria today, and got a huge salad with tomatoes, black olives, feta cheese, bacon, and a cup of romaine for lunch. I have some olive oil and vinegar dressing to use. I figured 4 T will be enough dressing. Dinner will be some chicken, olive oil, onions, and tomatoes. My snack will be 1 oz of macadamia nuts, and 1/2 a Granny Smith apple.
Not only have my carbs gone up ( 11-13 % ), so did my fat %. Sunday I eat 71.1% fat, and only 17.8 % protein. Saturday is 24.3 %, and over the 2 days, I still average 109 grams of protein, so I don't think I am too low. I cut the protein, because the meat I eat is becoming more expensive too. At 15 lbs a week, a 50 cent a pound jump is another $7.50. By cutting 1/3 of my chicken, I can save about $20 a week, and vegetables are much cheaper. I find myself stir frying them in oil though, so still getting plenty of calories.
I have to say that my lunch today was not only tasty, but a pretty dish. orange, yellow, and red peppers, with red tomatoes, white onions, and golden cooked chicken. A little green would have been more colorful, but I don't really like green peppers. They taste bland to me, compared to the other colored peppers. Maybe some zucchini next time?
So I am going to aim for 60 grams of carbs most days, and not get it from kidney beans, and red meat in my chili, since my brother think these may be causing his gout attacks. Instead I plan to get it from 10-12 servings of vegetables a day. Hopefully, it works out. I think it is delicious. I even got a sale on my macadamia nuts ( just $4.99 ), so I have 7 ozs of those to mix in. I have had some discussion about adding seeds to my diet, but I'll have to see if I like the taste. Eating seeds just seems weird to me. Plus I need to figure out what kinds they have available. I know they sell sunflower seeds, but does anyone else eat seeds? What kinds would you recommend?
Just thought I would discuss these changes. I am close to 30 lbs from goal weight now, and need to start thinking of transitioning to Pre-Maintenance ( the 3rd Atkins phase ). I am still looking for some eggplant, and may need to go to a fruit and vegetable market to find that, and some zucchini, which sounds like it might be good in a stir fry.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and is doing well this weekend. It's after midnight now, so the start of another great week!

Let's ask Merle Haggard.
I guess they aren't. That's good news. I do wish a Ford, and a Chevy would last 10 years.. like they should, but hopefully by now ( 30 years later ), men have learned to cook for themselves..lol.
The President still doesn't do what he said he would ( both parties ), but not going to happen. Maybe if we elect a woman?
Anyways.. this morning it is freezing, and I took a 30 minute walk. Correction. It is 17 degrees BELOW freezing. Yep, 15 degrees. Supposedly I burn more calories to warm myself. If so, I expect a big loss tomorrow..lol. High of 25 today. I shortened my walk, because even in sweats, and a hoodie, I was cold. It is windy too.
After getting home at 8 a.m., I started Sparking, and cooked up breakfast ( eggs, mushrooms, and butter ). I was listening to Merle, and trying to warm up. I have to do a load of laundry, but the laundry room is unheated, so I am procrastinating. Okay.. I am back, and my feet are numb. My plan for today is to get laundry done, and at 11:30, head to Aldi's. My brother made a lot of money in tips this weekend, so I plan to buy a few extras. I a, even going to see if I can make eggplant taste good. I may not be able to get that today though. Aldi's selection is the bare minimum. The reason I am waiting till 11:30, is that by the time I am done, it will be noon, and the pizzeria will be open. This is important, not because I will be having a cheat meal, but because my brother's boss, has decided that he has extra venison to give away, and will have it there at noon.
I plan to buy a few salads for a light lunch. Romaine, tomato, onion, feta, and bacon, and I have some olive oil, and vinegar dressing. Then I get to watch my Lions play the Buccaneers, who 3 weeks ago, hadn't won a game, but are now 2-8. Hopefully, they don't help them any further, by losing to an inferior team. As a Lions fan, I expect the worst though.
Dinner will be multi-colored peppers, onions, and 12 ozs. of venison cooked in butter. I need to change my tracker. I think oil might taint the flavor. I will be watching Pistons basketball. So, basically after groceries, my plan is sports, while trying to stay warm. I need to get some slippers.
As far as bad news/ good news in my life, here is 1 of each. The bad news is that when I stand in my kitchen, I can feel the cold blowing into my apartment. Last summer, they jackhammered all the cement under my sink, to change the pipe.. all the way out to the street. The replaced the cement in my kitchen, and re-tiled my kitchen, and hall. I just noted, when lifting the metal sheet under my sink, that there is bare dirt under the metal sheet and a big hole. They never replaced the cement, or boards, under my sink! Typical cost-cutting B.S. from this apartment complex. I can't wait till I can get out of here, and buy a house.
The good news is.. I didn't get a bill for my car ( no, thats not the good news ), and when I called to get them to send us a bill ( I am behind on payments ), I found out I only owe $827 to pay it off. This means that I will be done with car payments by January, and will be able to switch to PLPD, and save about $500 a month. That should make life a lot easier.
More good news. The guy who paid $560 for my car to be repaired told us we could either pay him back whenever we want to, or not. He doesn't care. I am considering giving $560 to charity or help someone out with the money, and I think he will be okay with that. Probably happier than if I gave him the money back. Sometimes, when you are in a real bind, you find out who your real friends are. So many people are trying to be seen as good people, but actually being a good person is rare. I hope in years to come, I can repay his kindness tenfold, to other people, who may need it.
That's all on that.
This morning as I listened to the song, I realized that we all think the good times were a moment in time. The past always looks great. My best year of my life has to be 1984, a year after this song was made. I was 10, and we spent 3 weeks that summer out west. We drove through Iowa to Nebraska, then Denver ( where we had moved from ), and 4 days in Wyoming, Then we cut through Montana to South Dakota, and Mount Rushmore. Through Minnesota, and Wisconsin, and down home through the Upper Peninsula. So many people go on vacations by plane, and I think the greatest gift my parents ever gave me ( besides life ), was driving through 40 states, on the vacations we took.
The other great event of that summer was the Detroit Tigers winning the World Series. I like a decent game even now, but at 10, the Tigers on the radio were special. We had no T.V. I had seen them at other people's houses, but it was several more years before we got our own. So radio was my entertainment, and Ernie Harwell's voice was something I heard almost daily. I sat and listened to mythical heroes win game after game, and since then have never loved the game more. Today, I like football more, but back then, I barely knew about the sport.
The " good times " are just memories. While I was living that year, I didn't realize that it would be my best year of my life. For all I knew, the Tigers would win every year. I am sure that my parents didn't consider it to be the best year ever. They have a different time that they would consider. Many say the 60's were the best.
So if we don't know that the " good times " are the good times, while we are living them, then any moment in time is possibly a good time. We may be living them right now, and in 10 years, we may look back, and say the fall of 2013 was incredible. One of the happiest times of my life. The good times are never over, we are making them happen every day.
Hopefully for you, they are today. Have a blessed day!

I got my walk done early, and sparked for a few hours, and just weighed in, since my breakfast is digested, and I am cooking lunch. I weighed in at 197.2 today, down from 199.8 2 days ago.. so a drop of 2.6.
I went and checked my BMI chart, and found out my BMI is 30.0 right now.. still obese. I need to lose anther 4/10ths of a lb..lol to get to 29.9, at 196.8.. than I will only be overweight.
The diet seems to be doing well, but unlike my brother, sodium has an effect on me. The cheese and black olives are too much, so I plan to have more apples or find a different form of carbohydrate over the next week, and skip these foods to drop sodium back down some. It isn't affecting my weight loss, but at times I am short of breath slightly after my snacks.
I plan to watch the Pistons game I recorded last night, and read some of the books I got from the library. Having chili again tonight ( with beans ). They do not seem to be an issue at all, and are no salt canned kidney beans. Tonight is all about Survivor.
The chicken place raised the price of the b/s chicken thighs 50 cents a lb, and that wouldn't have been a problem, except I eat 15 lbs of chicken ( my brother and I ). So $7.50 a week extra.
My brother is doing low carb, except for breakfast, which he has now switched to oatmeal, instead of cereal, So he is at 110-130 grams a day. He hates eggs, and he eats 3 packages of oatmeal which is 81 grams a day ( with water ), plus my 30-50 at lunch/dinner. Eating this way, he has lost 27 lbs in 2 weeks, 17 lbs. the 1st week, and 10 last week. So far those were both while eating cereal and milk. He's down to 331, after going up to 358 over the last few months, from 305. I'm jealous of his quick weight loss, but hadn't realized he had gained 50 lbs., and glad that I am not at 358, which is where I would need to be to lose that quickly.
Overall, I am doing pretty good, and hope everyone is doing great. Have a wonderful day!
