Salad for Breakfast

Oh yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...I had green salad with fruit and and egg on the side for breakfast! It was sooooooooooo good I think I might choose that more often this summer! What a great way to "get more greens" into me!

    I hadn't even thought of salad for breakfast. Lately - I guess it's the weather - I've really loved having green salad - with tablespoon of ranch dressing. I'm going to try your idea.

Firstly, thank you to EVERYONE who made suggestions for my family cottage weekend. The one pervasive message was I CAN DO IT! And, yes I can.

So I'm pooped already today...gotta nap...gosh, what would I ever do about getting all this stuff done if I wasn't retired...oh yeah, I remember...pay someone to do it for me!

Go for a TBS of natural PB & a small square of dark chocolate....and get'er done with 'peanutbutter power'... thats how I fuel all of the tasks I need to get done sans nap, which if I had time for.... but no, so PB it is!!

Help from my "maintaining friends"

I am looking for help/suggestions from my maintaining friends on SP. Here's the story: my family is coming to the cottage next weekend and last night my husband declared it shall not be a "watch what we eat" weekend. Honestly, the words alone sent me into panic mode and then the were followed by a list of saliva-producing foods like ice cream, chips, cake, choc chip cookies, brownies....

So, my dear friends, I'm looking for all suggestions as to how I can WIN with MY food next weekend!!! I have a week to formulate a plan...all suggestions gratefully accepted.

    I make a yummy frozen desert by putting frozen bananas & frozen berries or cherries in the food processor. Goes down just like ice cream, yet it is 100% fruit and fat free, no added sugar, just the natural fruit sugar.

    Do you have to provide all the food, or will it be pot-luck? You might suggest DH (or other family members) make the things that you want to avoid, so you can stay entirely away from them. Do have plenty of fruit and veggies for volume, some protein and fat for staying power, and lots of water (with lemon wedges for taste?).

You can do this. Don't let it be "poor deprived me," but focus instead on your goals and the eating style you are now desiring to develop.

Can you be away part of the day doing active things? When I'm more active, I don't "feel" the desire to eat so strongly. Good luck!

    Keep healthy foods on hand for you. Have low fat ice cream or low calorie cookies if you need them..otherwise make sure you have salads and vegetables for you. Just because you are offering things to others, does not mean you have to indulge. Good luck!

    Hi ya!! I have been maintaining an progressing for a while now, so I hope I can help.
I guess I'm a bit perplexed why you wouldn't want to watch what you eat... all weekend?
I understand having a break, I think an indulgent meal or a decadent dessert is a good thing for us once in a while, mentally I think you cant be 'ON" all of the time & maintain a healthy mindset 'all or nothing'... but to just go hog wild all weekend? Umm I'm sorry, if my hubby wasnt on board and got mad at me for what I wanted to put in my body - he could JUST GET MAD at me. I will add here, not that you are doing so, but dont use hubby as an excuse to go crazy. You control you.. okay.. (-:

I think a weekend of over-indulgence will leave you in a place of guilt, regret and not to mention what it doesn't chemically to your body / brain which you will have to detox from for days after (I have BEEN to that place TOOOO MANY times). In my opinion, from my own journeys experience, I think I would make sure you have easy, clean snacks and food prepared and ready to stick a fork in / eat', then choose other indulgences wisely... ie: dont pass up home made ice-cream but forgo the crackers, chips and junk food.
You recognize this possible pitfall - so that's HUGE... and you know if you want to be successful you have to have a game plan - also WINNING.
I'm looking forward to hearing about the weekend and how you stood tall and owned it!!! (-: YOU GOT THIS!!!!

    Alot of those foods can be made healthy and still taste ridicously good.
Search for healthier versions, sorbet instead of ice cream, greek-yogurt brownies and what else. And just because you serve unhealthy food doesn't mean you can't serve healthy options aswell. Serve ice cold watermelon on a popsiclestick, berries, apples and nice salad options.

    You got this! Add some of your tempting foods to your nutritional tracker. You can even call one of the days as a free day! Plan some fun activities.

    Planning a whole weekend around food that is not good for anyone doesn't sound like fun for me. But I get that your husband wants that stuff. I'd make sure there were plenty of healthy alternatives for me. A couple of big salads with dressings on the side. Some healthy snacks like hummus. A big fruit salad--which I find popular with everyone, watching cals or not. Some low fat protein as well as the dogs and burger crowd stuff.

I guess my underlying answer is do not skimp on what you need to please the crowd. Make sure you have choices.

When faced with only difficult choices, I eat small portions. But that's a hard thing to do all weekend.

    Try to focus on having FUN with the people - conversations and activities. Don't bring up the topic of food (I realize you can't control what others talk about) or mention what you are or are not eating.

    I would still watch what I ate. Drink lots of water, stay active and good luck. There is no denying that this will be tough so do the best you can. I am betting that you will do just fine. You will be blogging on Monday about how great you did managing the food at the cottage.

    Well, I am not quite at maintaining level yet but, I would say it is as simple as do the best you can. Make the best choices that you can make. That is really all you can ask for. Maybe have some quick alternatives ready for yourself. If you have something that isn't great for you, don't dwell on it, don't let it snowball, don't let it get to you. Move on, learn from it, and do better the next time. Good luck!
