Busy week - heading into the challenge weekend!

Hey how is everyone? It's been a really busy week work wise, lots of travelling but I've been sticking to my guns and have cooked in the evenings and taken packed lunches to work.

This weekend brings on my half- marathon walk at midnight in aid of our local hospice.

Today has been a good day health wise! We'd planned a cycle ride for today and even though it was raining a bit, we stuck to it! To keep me on track, I tried out one of the spark recipes in my slow cooker - I can highly recommend the Bourbon Street Chicken - so it was all ready and waiting when we got back.

I also packed a lunch, so we weren't tempted by the pub halfway round!

The route itself was on a disused rail line and was fairly traffic free and smooth going. Great for cycling with children. We finally broke the 10 mile mark and actually ended up doing nearer 12 at a much more decent pace. Last time we went out, I could probably have walked quicker!!

So we had a break for lunch and a break to repair a puncture(!) but it was a pretty good ride. I think without the little one, may have managed this without a lunch stop, but his stamina is building and we'll get there!

Today's been a beautiful day here & I was lucky to meet up with an old school friend for an afternoon browsing our local shops. We also had lunch and this was always going to be a challenge. I love love love my food! But this time we went to a restaurant chain that helpfully had lighter (smaller!) portions of most of their main courses, with the calories printed on the menu. Made it so much easier to choose wisely and I had a lovely chilli king prawn spaghetti.

I did give in to a cake at from a little bakery run by a friend of a friend but it was a small cake, still tasty though! And you have to try and support small businesses don't you ;-)



Week 1

Here we are nearly at the end of week 1. I decided to weigh myself on Fridays - today was the first day weigh -in and woo hoo!!! 0.9kg lost this week. I'm thrilled, it's a real step in the right direction.

Think my body is still getting used to all this healthier food and is suffering withdrawal symptoms a bit - tired and a bit rundown, but each time I eat something healthy, I know it's making a difference!

The first weekend is up ahead and it's going to be interesting to have a day out with friends near my favourite cake shop, but I reckon I can make up for it with a bike ride on Sunday!

On the road again

So, I've been back on the road again.
I find it really hard to eat well and healthily when I'm travelling around. Even if I'm only on the road for the day.

How do other people manage? What do you do to stop you buying those tempting cakes from service stations?

Today, I did make map sandwich before I left home so that was good and I cooked a meal in the evening rather than give in to my tiredness and go for the junk food!
