What I learned from BLC 25.

Sunday, July 27, 2014

More than a month since my last blog post. I was on a SP challenge that crashed and burned for me, and I lost interest in participating at all here, which is bad for me, so I'm going to talk about it a little here.

I want to make sure everyone knows I'm NOT criticizing anyone who likes the challenges. Just deciding they're not for me right now.

I have done 3 SP gigantic team challenges to date: 2 BLC challenges, and a 5% challenge. I think I need to stop doing them. Each one has ended up with me feeling defeated and bad about myself.

On the other hand, when I do smaller challenges, with simple goals and easy tracking, I mostly do well. I do seem to need some kind of challenge to keep me motivated, so I am going to pick something easy this time: SparkGuy's 10 minute exercise challenge. I can do 10 minutes a day. I can succeed at that. So that's where I'm going to pick back up my Spark.

I'm a small goal and challenge type of person and it's working for me. I have big goals as well but I know that if I keep my focus on my smaller ones the big ones will happen.

Do what's right for you!

Serene - I hear ya. I've done the BLC 6 rounds and that last 2 have left me less than fulfilled. I loved the team support but most of the time I felt like a big loser. You know what works for you and that is what you have to stick with. emoticon

Look out, she's on the loose!

Friday, June 20, 2014

Since I started taking these day trips to San Diego, I believe I've gotten onto some kind of TSA list. Usually, my mom wants to send me home with lots of stuff, so I go to San Diego emptyhanded, then come back with a suitcase. I expect that flags me (along with the one-day trip) as some kind of drug mule or something. The last two times I did the day trip, I ended up with TSA flags (yellow or red strips of paper, if I remember right) on my luggage. This time, when I went to print out my boarding pass, it said in red letters "Airport check-in required." Fortunately, I was already planning to check a bag this time, because I gotta take my jammies and tomorrow's interview clothes.

But I mean, really.

The funny part this time is, of course, that the purpose of my trip is to attend the Sheriff Department's background investigation pre-screening interview.

This is me, looking dangerous. Rawr!

I am taking my Spark tracker with me. One of my teams has a weekend challenge every week, so I'm also printing that out so I can do as much as I can while I'm gone, and then pick up more points after I get home on Saturday night.

Have an excellent weekend, Sparklets!

That's funny about the TSA list...I often wonder how they choose. I travel a lot too and every time I put something strange in my bag (rocks, or dumbbells) even though I make sure it's under the 50 pound limit, they examine it!

One time the dumbbells were in my carryon and the agent says "what do you have in here, weights?" and I said, ummm actually yes!

Ya gotta laugh about it though, so keep on!

Doing great so far

Thursday, June 19, 2014

I'm happy with my reset. New goals, same five teams (I won't give up my teams; they sustain me!), new commitment to moving and eating well, and a shiny new hot-pink water bottle to keep at my desk.

Hard reset

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

Sometimes, I just need to start from scratch and toss old baggage. As soon as I figure out how to do it, I'm resetting all my SP goals and numbers and starting from scratch today. I'm not doing this to punish myself or to negate all the great self-love and hard work I've engaged in since October; I'm just doing it to shake myself up and give myself a boost.

Have you ever done this? Did it help? Did it hurt?

I wish you the best!!!

I've done it several times and closed down an account and started another one. I found it easier to close down my old account and start a new one, than reset my old one. It was kind of like resetting my old one - I was still the same person with the same problems. Having a new account helped me to move forward (yes, I'm still the same person - but it felt different!). I also made myself start over again with the different phases of SP!

Do what works for YOU, though! You know what does!

HUGS!!!

Sunday recommitment

Sunday, June 01, 2014

I was reading my friend April's blog today ( www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo
urnal_individual.asp?blog_id=5708005
) and she was saying she recommits to her goals every Sunday. This is a GREAT idea for me, because I find that if I keep my focus on my Sparking, things go better. So here goes. I am just putting my goal commitment out here for the world to see, but mainly for me to keep in mind:

1) Log on to SparkPeople every single day
2) Log every bite and every minute of exercise
3) Stay within my personal nutritional goals
4) Exercise 60+ minutes per day, at least 6 days a week (except when too sick to exercise)
and the most important one:
5) Never be mean to myself, ever

(EDIT: I have decided that logging my exercise ahead of time is too weird, so I'm going to plan it on my calendar, but not log it until I do it.)
