17 days!

Thursday, September 11, 2014

We're in the home stretch. I'm having the kid over this weekend to take all our extra pantry foods if she wants them. If she doesn't, I'll give them next week to a co-worker who has teenagers to feed. Then the following weekend, we'll have our going-away party, and the weekend after that, we're out of here.

Exciting times! (Also hugely stressful. But that's normal, and it will pass.)

20 days

Monday, September 08, 2014

In 20 days, we move to San Diego. We're going to live next door to my mom, who is one of my best friends. Whee!

Once we get there, there will be challenges in the eating/exercise departments. But me? I have a plan for each one!

CHALLENGE: Mom loves to feed us, and her foods are often not the stuff we want to be eating.

PLAN: We have already told mom that we will be having dinner at her place one day a week, and other than that, we'll be cooking for ourselves.

CHALLENGE: Mom's neighborhood isn't very walkable...

PLAN: ...but within a short drive, there are plenty of places to walk, and besides, we're taking the Bowflex and mom has a stationary bike for us to use. We also have exercise DVDs and SparkPeople on YouTube.

CHALLENGE: Stress will be high, so reaching for junk will be easier than cooking.

PLAN: The plan here is, well, planning! I will keep planning my meals a week in advance. I am much more likely to eat well if I make it easy on myself.

This week's meal plan

Sunday, September 07, 2014

Dinners for the upcoming week:

S: taking my brother-in-law to the Ethiopian place
M: vegan chili
T: vegan chili (James's recipe makes a lot, and we tend to eat it the next day anyway, so I decided to just plan for that)
W: whole-wheat pasta with sesame sauce, broccoli
Th: split pea soup, whole-wheat croutons, salad
F: vegan black-bean enchiladas

Ways to keep moving

Tuesday, September 02, 2014

I'm going to be moving in 24 days, so things are about to get really busy around here. I need a plan for keeping myself moving. For a start, I'm reminding myself:

1) Errands that are less than a mile away are for walking, not driving

2) That stationary bike isn't gonna ride itself

3) Canned goods make good substitute weights once the Bowflex is packed

4) Taking 10 minutes out of my day to exercise isn't a waste of time -- it's a way to make every day count!
