The great outdoors

Most of my time outside is merely in/out of the door, the car, the gym, the hospital..Yesterday was too beautiful to NOT be outside, so I ran over to the park, which has a nice little lake with walking trails around it. Spent a couple hours there, mostly walking but I also stopped to "smell the roses".. watched several fishermen (some with little boys along with their poles) kids on the playground, ducks in the lake, the picnicers, the parents with their cameras, just everyone enjoying the day the Lord gave us.. what a refreshing change from the gym. Will do that again for awhile til it gets gets hot, and it does early here in Texas. Hope you all had a great weekend!

Living in Texas, Mexican food is a favorite! Receipes to resturants, most everyone has some multiple times during a month. Today I claimed victory over my lunch with 10 other ladies, yes, it was a Mexican place and it all smelled WONDERFUL! Now, normally I eat every last bite on the plate, and they are BIG portions no matter where you go here in town. PLUS I would always finish the dish of salsa and ask for more and eat a TON of tortilla chips... Had a protein shake for breakfast in anticipation of this luncheon, but in the past I would stuff my face even AFTER I was already full.. well gang, TODAY I left all the refried beans, half the rice and half of BOTH enchiladas, left half the FIRST dish of salsa! I am learning how to eat LESS! Have not had such a strong mindset since I stopped smoking 2 yrs ago, I am COMMITTED to losing this weight! And SP and all of you who read my blogs, encourage me, send me Goodies, whatever you do, is the main reason I can stay motivated, THANKS SparkPeople and Sparkfriends, you ROCK!!!

A bad class instructor

At my gym they have daily classes called Silver Sneakers, for seniors. Many of the regulars are older AND more fit than I, but I have built up my endurance to get thru the hour class. Today there was a 'fill in" that just did not seem to have any enthusisiasm at ALL, would do so many reps on one side and then forget doing the other, did not seem to have a routine in his head.. usually enjoy the class but was sorely disappointed today! Normally I only attend the class once every couple weeks, the rest of the time I use the elliptical, tread mill, stationary bike and rowing maching, other exercise and weights at home maybe once a wk. Took me my entire life to get around to exercising but now I LIKE it and it sure has benefits! My BP is lower, blood sugar lower, energy UP! Wish I had done this years ago! Everybody keep moving!!

I have seen this at my gym and women just went home instead of finding something else to do.. Like with 8 other classes going on that day, no excuse to walk out.. Your class was just unlucky today lol..

Snack searching

Since I am type 2 diabetic (controlled though-especially since I have started with a exercise program) I realize the IMPORTANCE of snacks, however a lot of days I go too long between eating and forget snacks. Want to try to get in the habit of eating them! My new go-to snack? Dry roasted edamame, tasty, high protein, fills you up ! Enjoy fruit of course, also almonds,allow myself a sweet something VERY SELDOM! Any suggestions from any of you of something different I can try? I am using protein shakes more often and can tell that they are instrumental in my recent losses, along with plenty of water and exercise.
